What we offer.We offer everything from basic work at height courses through to management and first aid. Our training courses are designed to give attendees the skills required by industry and to give them the competency required to work safely at height. Our courses follow industry best practice and are delivered by experienced instructors who all have experience of working at height and can be delivered at your premises providing site conditions and facilities are suitable. Tractel is a member of the Work at Height Safety Association (WAHSA) and the BSIF and continually strive to improve the course content and work closely with industry to ensure their needs are met. The course syllabus is intended to provide basic information for anyone involved in or affected by work at height. It is an introduction to work at height and gives trainees the foundation skills required before further learning.

AIMS: ■ The aim of this course is to ensure that trainees are aware of the

legal and best practice requirements when using fall protection equipment and are aware of their responsibilities.

■ To equip trainees with a base theoretical knowledge to effectively identify the main hazards associated with work at height and therefore understand ways to reduce the risks.

OBJECTIVES On completion of this course, the trainees should be able to:

■ Understand the effects of gravity and its consequences. ■ Gain an understanding of the legislation and guidance with regards

to working at height and fall protection equipment ■ Recognise the main hazards and risks in connection to work at

height. ■ Understand the need for a rescue plan. ■ Identify appropriate anchorage points. ■ Perform a pre-use inspection of work at height equipment (harness/

lanyard). ■ Correctly don a harness. ■ Correctly set up, use and return to storage a horizontal lifeline

system.

This course is intended to provide more detailed information and knowledge for planning, supervising and managing those working at height. This course goes into a lot more detail than the basic work at height course with more time available for discussion and more in depth learning.

This syllabus covers health and safety and regulatory requirements, the selecting and planning of staff competency, the selection of the correct work equipment, and knowledge of producing risk assessments and method statements.

AIMS: ■ The aim of this course is to ensure that trainees are aware of the

legal and best practice requirements when using fall protection equipment and are aware of their responsibilities under the relevant legislation when supervising and managing work at height activities

■ To equip trainees with detailed theoretical knowledge to effectively identify the main hazards associated with work at height and therefore understand ways to reduce the risks.

OBJECTIVES On completion of this course, the delegate should be able to:

■ Have a good understanding of the legislation and guidance with regards to working at height and fall protection equipment

■ Recognise the main hazards and risks in connection to work at height ■ Evaluation of risk assessments ■ Understand the need for a rescue plan ■ Identify appropriate anchorage points ■ Perform a pre-use inspection of work at height equipment (harness/

lanyard) ■ Recognise mis-use of Equipment and remedy the situation

COURSE DURATION 1-2 DAY (depending on your requirements)TRAINER TO TRAINEE RATIO 1 : 6COURSE ENTRY CRITERIA Basic Work at Height - WAHT1 A medical self-declaration must be completed prior to being accepted onto this course PRICE £950.00 ex VAT (1 day) - £1,900.00 ex VAT (2 days) for up to 10 persons

This course provides trainees with the necessary skills and competency to rescue others who have fallen from height. It involves both theoretical and practical elements and following successful completion of the course, enables trainees to fulfil their legal duties under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 regarding provision of rescue.

The duration of rescue training courses depend on a number of points;

■ The duration of the practical element of the course is dependent upon site conditions and equipment available. Simple “over the edge – roof” training can be delivered in the afternoon following the basic work at height course, but for more complicated training such as tower cranes, high level masts etc, this will require 2 days to complete everything needed.

AIMS The aim of this course is to ensure that trainees are aware of the legal and best practice requirements when using fall protection equipment, and to ensure they receive the skills, knowledge and confidence to execute rescues on trainees who have fallen from height.

OBJECTIVES On completion of this course, the trainees should be able to:

■ Assess the emergency situation that requires the rescue of a fallen person

■ Execute that rescue in a safe and effective manner ■ Administer basic first aid while emergency help is on its way

TOPICS COVERED: ■ As per the Basic Work at Height Training WAHT1 course ■ Recognise the main hazards and risks in connection to work at

height. ■ Understand the need for a rescue plan. ■ Identify appropriate anchorage points ■ Perform a pre-use inspection of the equipment ■ Correctly set up, use and return to storage a horizontal lifeline

system. o Ground level familiarisation of equipment o Low Level rescue scenario o Realistic scenario rescue at full height

CERTIFICATIONTrainees will be issued with a certificate demonstrating they are competent to perform rescues in the event of an emergency and safely return a casualty to the ground. Valid for 2 years

COURSE DURATION 1 DAY TRAINER TO TRAINEE RATIO 1 : 8COURSE ENTRY CRITERIA NONE FACILITIES A large, clean area on site for the practical elements of this course; CPR etc.PRICE £950.00 ex VAT for up to 6 persons AIMS The aim of this course is to provide trainees with the knowledge and practical experience to provide emergency first aid in the workplace, with particular focus on the injuries commonly sustained during falls from height.

OBJECTIVES On completion of this course, the trainees will be able to:

■ Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safely and correctly carrying out First Aid in accordance with the legislative requirements and according to European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines

■ Identify and explain normal function, normal signs and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illness related to the human body with particular focus on common injuries sustained during falls from height.

■ Demonstrate understanding and correct order of management in emergency situations when responding to falls from height.

■ Demonstrate correct use of lifesaving First Aid using the Primary Survey.

■ Demonstrate correct use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). ■ Demonstrate correct use of Ordinary First Aid and the Secondary

Survey . ■ Demonstrate correct use of First Aid equipment in a number of First

Aid scenarios.

and residential rooftops ■ Know about maintenance, use, storage and pre-use checks of

Effective inspection of personal fall protection equipment is crucial to ensure the equipment can perform correctly in the event of a fall. In this course, Tractel shares its knowledge and understanding of fall protection equipment materials and manufacturing processes to give trainees the competency to carry out detailed inspections on work equipment. Using both theoretical and practical learning and assessments, this course is essential for anyone responsible for inspecting work at height equipment.

Please note if the items require servicing, training is available via Tractel maintenance courses. This course will cover pre-use inspection only on serviceable items.

AIMS This course is intended to provide the information and skills required for any person involved in the inspection of personal fall protection equipment so they can carry out inspections safely and effectively.

OBJECTIVES: ■ Understand the UK legislation and codes of practice regarding the

inspection of work equipment. ■ Be trained and assessed as a competent person to inspect personal

fall protection equipment. ■ Be able to identify and understand different forms of damage. ■ Be able to record the finds of inspections in formal records.

TERMS AND CONDITIONSAll training must be carried out in a safe working environment. Tractel trainers may refuse to deliver the training if the site conditions are not up to the required standard. Courses can be delivered on site or at any suitable pre-arranged location. Certain courses can only be delivered at a dedicated work at height training facility. Some practical, on-site training, may require a site visit by the training manager before a course can be delivered. Please call us on 0114 2482266 ext 0 to discuss your site conditions/facilities further. Failure to accurately detail site conditions or facilities may lead to a course being cancelled with no refund being offered

LANGUAGE SKILLSCandidates must have adequate spoken and written English skills in order to effectively understand the course content and be able to complete the course assessments. If a trainee is unable to complete a course due to a language barrier they will not be successful but will still be charged. We are unable to accept an interpreter.

BOOKINGSAll courses must be booked in advanced with Tractel via 0114 2482266 ext 0.

COMPLAINTS AND APPEALSTractel has a complaints and appeals procedure. If you wish to raise a complaint or appeal please contact Tractel via 01142482266 ext 0 in the first instance.

NON-HARASSMENT POLICYHarassment in the work place is unacceptable and, in most cases, unlawful. Both delegates and trainers have the right to engage in the courses without fear of physical and verbal abuse. Both staff and delegates are expected to respect others involved with the course.

TRAINEE NUMBERSTractel reserves the right to postpone courses if the number of trainees is too low. If this is the case, Tractel will offer alternative dates at no charge. Discounts are available for block bookings. Tractel will not run courses will more delegates than the pre-arranged booking without approval from the training manager. This is at the decision of Tractel.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)All trainees are required to bring safety footwear and hard hats on all courses. Additional PPE requirements will be discussed depending on the course being undertaken. Practical courses will not run if the trainer deems the PPE of trainees to be unsatisfactory. The trainer’s decision is final.

CANCELLATIONSCancellation by Customer: In the event of a partial or full cancellation of a course by the customer, then the following charges will apply:

■ Up to two weeks prior to the course: new dates will be offered. ■ Less than 5 working days prior to the course: 100% of the course fee is payable. ■ If trainees on the course are replaced: no charge.

All cancellations must be made via email to Tractel.

Cancellation by Tractel: In the event that Tractel is forced to cancel the training due to unforeseen circumstances, then new course dates will be offered at a time convenient to the customer with no additional charge.

PAYMENT TERMSFull payment is due before the course commences. If Tractel does offer credit terms, the payment terms are month end plus 30 days.

ADDITIONAL EXPENSESIn addition to the price of the course additional costs may be payable. These may be an overnight (hotel + food) charge for the instructor charged at £100 ex VAT, mileage of 45p per mile ex VAT, London congestion charge or parking charges. All costs will be communicated prior to course bookings and will be fully itemised.

WEATHER CONDITIONSUnder the Work at Height Regulations 2005 work at height activities must take account of weather conditions that could compromise worker safety. In the event of inclement weather, practical elements of a course may be postponed at the trainer’s discretion. As this is an unforeseen circumstance, additional charges may apply for the trainer returning to site to complete the practical assessment on another day. This is at the discretion of Tractel. The safety of trainers and trainees is our number one priority.
