LOCAL SUPPORT IN TRAFFORD

Trafford School Sports Partnership (SSP) is a collaboration between The Dean Trust Ashton on Mersey and Flixton Girls School and has been working with and supporting schools in Trafford since 2005. Trafford SSP aims to ensure that all young people across the borough have access to high quality PE and school sport in order to help create and sustain a sporting legacy within schools across Trafford.

The Trafford School Sports Partnership does this by working alongside schools to:

• Raise standards in PE and offer guidance to all schools in Trafford to help them deliver and achieve high quality PE.

• Deliver the Government’s national strategy for school sport – ‘The School Games’ across all schools at the local level in Trafford.

• Deliver a comprehensive programme of competitive, non-competitive and fully inclusive school sport opportunities for all school aged children in Trafford presenting them with the opportunity to achieve and excel.

• Support primary schools in investing their sport premium funding to obtain maximum benefit to curriculum PE, extra-curricular school sport, their pupils and staff.

• Promote and encourage health and physical activity initiatives for all school aged children across the borough.

Membership of the Trafford Schools Sports Partnership is open to all infant, junior and primary schools in Trafford. All schools across the borough are encouraged to invest a percentage of their sport premium funding to take membership which is continuously evolving to help meet and address the needs of schools. The following is a taste of what is covered and included in membership for 2014-15:

• Free access to the comprehensive Trafford CPD training programme for all school staff supporting teachers across all key stages to deliver high quality PE.

• Youth Sport Trust (YST) Membership and free access to their PE Subject Leaders workshops and resources on the YST website.

• Entry into all competitions, events and festivals planned and delivered by the Trafford SSP.

• Targeted support and assistance with Change4Life Club delivery.

• Extra-curricular coaching support.

• Free schemes of work and lesson plans for specific areas of the PE curriculum.

• Opportunity for schools to apply for the Youth Sport Trust ‘Quality Mark’.

• 5 a day fitness TV physical activity package networked across your school.

• School Games support, guidance and advice including - School Games Mark applications, Intra and Inter School Sport planning, establishing Leadership programmes and School Sport Organising Committees.

• Trafford School Sports Awards entry and invite.

• Termly Trafford PE subject leaders meetings.

• Access to the Trafford SSP website resources.

The work of the Trafford School Sports Partnership is driven by the two School Games Organisers in Trafford.

One of Trafford School Sports Partnerships key partners is Trafford Community Leisure Trust and their coaching team, Sport Trafford.

Sport Trafford has a professional coaching team that supports teachers in the delivery of high quality PE and School Sport. They offer both curriculum support and out of school hours opportunities such as breakfast clubs, lunch clubs and after school club activities. All coaches are minimum Level 2 qualified and CRB/DBS cleared.
