Messages Principal's message: It is with pleasure I present the Hampton Public School Annual Report for 2010. This report presents a balanced account of the school’s achievements over the past year.

Hampton Public School is a small rural school in the village of Hampton. It is a well-equipped, one teacher school of 21 students, providing a caring personal and family atmosphere within a stimulating, challenging and beautiful environment. The school serves as a focal point for the area and enjoys the benefits of an active P&C.

Our children, parents, staff and community have had another busy and stimulating year, full of opportunities for quality teaching and learning and engagement in activities outside the school gates. Our annual family excursion saw us travel by coach to Featherdale Wildlife Park in Doonside, Western Sydney. We acknowledge the management of Featherdale for donating our entry fees to the Park.

Students attended Bathurst Small Schools Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, visited the new Adventure Park and enjoyed the Erth’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo in Bathurst. We also attended the Term 2 and Term 4 Bathurst Small Schools Gala Days.

We are very proud of two students, Jasmine P and Jasmin N who represented our school at District and Region PSSA in high jump and cross country.

Hampton students and staff were also especially pleased and excited to win the PP6 trophy for Ball Games at the Bathurst Small Schools Gala Day in Term 4. As far as we are able to discover it has been at least 25 years since Hampton has won a

3

trophy for ball games. All of our practice has been worthwhile.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 students went on combined Bathurst Small Schools’ excursions to Sydney studying Colonial Australia, and Canberra to complete class work on Government and Democracy.

Our school leadership team consisting of our School Captain Jasmine, and Year 5 students Cody, Ashley and Shay, who have modelled good leadership skills at assemblies and welcoming visitors to our school.

Our students have entered work in Art and Photographic Competitions: Operation Art, Epic Art Competition and Country Energy “Colours of Oberon”, achieving certificates of merit. We were a member school of the Bathurst Small Schools Creative Arts Festival, performing at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre and showcasing art work in the foyer Art Show. Our Stage 3 students were members of the Western Gateway Education Community (WGEC) choir.

Mr Dickson has delivered excellent technology opportunities to design and build robots. All students entered the Western Region Robocup competition at CSU Bathurst with one group taking 3rd prize in the region.

All students in Years 3 to 6 entered the ICAS Mathematics competition with one Distinction and one Credit being gained.

Our students have benefitted from the weekly music lessons delivered by our professional music

teacher Mrs Diane Bailey. Infants learn recorder whilst primary students learn cello, violin or keyboard. Instruments are supplied by the school.

Our BER classroom (Building the Education Revolution), was completed, an important addition to the teaching and learning environment of Hampton Public School.

Throughout the year staff, parents, members of the community and the boys and girls, have worked together to ensure that Hampton Public School continues to be a school that offers balanced and engaging educational opportunities for all students, providing programs which develop academic, social, physical and cultural excellence.

Once again I commend Hampton Public School staff members for their professionalism, caring attitude and collegiality. I am proud to be a member of such a supportive team.

I acknowledge also, the hard work of our P&C group. The innovative and friendly team of parents, provide financial and practical assistance with classroom programs, reading, environmental education and playground infrastructure. Their ongoing support is invaluable to the success of Hampton Public School.

I certify that the information in this report is the result of a rigorous school self-evaluation process and is a balanced and genuine account of the school's achievements and areas for development.

P&C message:

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the P&C throughout 2010, by attending meetings, offering opinions and ideas, cooking, decorating and the list goes on. We have a small team however they are very dedicated and continually strive to raise funds which in turn are used to assist our children at school. Over the past 12 months we have

4

raised a total of $5700. These funds were raised through our Annual Ball which as usual was a huge success, cake stalls, offsite catering and in-house fundraising. Throughout the year we have used some of this money to purchase new playground equipment, provide a term of L’Elfin gymnastics training as a sporting component for the children, excursions, a digital animation workshop in which students produced their own animated short film and put it onto DVD, library books and school leader blazers. We have achieved a lot over the past 12 months and I am very grateful for the support people have shown, and I look forward to continuing our work in 2011.

Tracey Green P&C President

Student representative's message:

We have had an eventful year in 2010. We went to the Bathurst Art Gallery for Operation Art workshops in Term 1. Ashley Brooks and I rode in several equestrian events: Evans Crown, Gulgong and Camden Horse sports events.

Stage 3 students went to Canberra with other children from the Small Schools where we had a great time especially at Questacon on the freefall. In Term 2 we went to CSU at Bathurst to compete in the Robocup Robotics competition. One of our groups which built a robot Scorpion came 3rd in the Western Region – Luke was the builder, Eve the assistant, Jessie the collector and I was the organiser.

In Term 3 the P&C organised the yearly Hampton Ball and we had a fancy dress disco with scary decorations: bats, spider webs and spooky smoke. Everyone dressed up in the Haunted House theme.

During Term 4 we had 3 bands to visit our school. Killarney Heights Public School, James Ruse High School and Lithgow High School entertained us with great music. Year 5 and 6 students sang in the Western Gateway choir at the opening of Education Week at Capertee Public School. We also hosted the Triangle Sports Day at Oberon with O’Connell and Meadow Flat schools.

We practised the whole of Term 4 for the ball games at the Small Schools Gala Day and for the first time ever, Hampton Public School won the P6 Trophy.
