GAP’s Training Team can offer an extensive range of courses to improve knowledge skills. This booklet outlines the training courses provided which include Working at Height, IPAF and PASMA accredited courses and driver CPC, delivered in partnership with our approved suppliers.

Working at HeightGAP delivers and supports IPAF accredited training, promoting the safe and effective use of powered access equipment in the workplace, always.

IPAF Push Around Vertical

This course is designed to enable Operators to manoeuvre and position the Push Around Vertical in a safe and proficient manner. It can be undertaken in Push Around Verticals (PAVs).

On successful completion delegates will receive a PAL Card, like the PAL Operator qualification, and it is valid for five years.

Half Day.

Maximum of 8 delegates per course.

IPAF MEWPs for Managers

This one Day course is designed to instruct supervisors and managers on how to prepare for and safely co-ordinate various types of MEWPs within their control.

On successful completion, delegates will receive an IPAF Certificate. Please note, this course does not provide delegates with a Powered Access Licence, PAL Card nor qualify them to operate powered access equipment.

1 Day.

Maximum of 10 delegates per course.

IPAF Harness

Delegates will learn how to inspect, use and maintain a harness when using a MEWP. Delegates will need to bring their own harness and lanyard for the course so it can be used for demonstration purposes.

On successful completion, delegates who hold an IPAF PAL Card will have it endorsed with this qualification. Those who do not hold a PAL Card will receive an IPAF Certificate.

Half Day.

Maximum of 10 delegates per course.

IPAF PAL+

The course is aimed at trained IPAF Operators who work in higher risk or challenging environments, e.g. steelwork, work in confined overhead spaces, work on challenging terrain. PAL+ training is open to Operators who hold an existing PAL Card qualification in the relevant category.

On successful completion the delegates will receive a PAL+ Card, which is valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 4 delegates per course.

IPAF Operator 2 Subjects

A mix of theory and practical training, this course is designed to enable Operators to manoeuvre, drive and position Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) safely and proficiently. Courses can be undertaken on scissor lifts, boom lifts, mast lifts, trailer mounted or truck mounted platforms covering the IPAF subjects 1a, 1b, 3a and 3b.

On successful completion, delegates will receive the IPAF Smart PAL (Powered Access Licence) photo ID Card giving instant recognition of identity and the categories accredited. The Card is valid for five years, after which the delegate would need to be re-assessed.

1 Day.

1 Subject has a maximum of 6 delegates per course and 2 Subjects a maximum of 4 delegates per course.

Choose from a wide range of IPAF accredited training courses. Successful trainees receive a Certificate and Powered Access Licence (PAL Card), a safety guide and log book. We fully support IPAF in promoting the safe and effective use of powered access equipment, so when booking IPAF training courses, it is essential you refer to the official IPAF guidance document.

Working at Height

PASMA certified training is universally acknowledged as the definitive standard for alloy towers, with the PASMA training Code of Practice being updated to incorporate the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. All five of our PASMA accredited courses meet and cover the above standards giving you the confidence you need to book with us.

PASMA Working at Height Essentials

This course is designed to enable an individual to effectively comply with their duties under the Work at Height Regulations.

A PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued to successful delegates, which is valid for five years.

Half Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

PASMA Combined Low Level Access & Towers for Users

A mix of theory and practical training designed to instruct delegates on how to safely assemble, dismantle and relocate low level access units and standard mobile access towers.

On successful completion a PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued at the level relevant to the course sessions the delegate has taken. This qualification is valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 8 delegates per course.

PASMA Towers on Stairs

This course is for those personnel whose work involves using towers on stairs. By the end of this course delegates will know how to safely assemble, dismantle, alter and use towers on stairs. Delegates need to hold a current PASMA Towers for Users Card.

A PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued to successful delegates who complete the theory and assessment sessions at the level they attend the course, which is valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 8 delegates per course.

PASMA Low Level Access

This half Day course covers how to safely assemble, dismantle and relocate low level access units without risk of personal injury to the delegate or others.

A PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued to successful delegates, which is valid for five years.

Half Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

PASMA Towers for Users

Universally acknowledged as the definitive industry standard, for users of alloy towers, the PASMA Towers for Users course and Code of Practice, have been completely updated to incorporate the requirements of the Working at Height Regulations 2005.

On successful completion of a theory test, practical assessment and tower inspection, delegates will receive a PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard as proof of competence. The Card is valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

New Roads and Street WorksAll New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) courses we offer are in line with The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.

Educating safety and safeguarding of individuals and others with training that provides knowledge and information to make this happen. To ensure full understanding of the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 at all levels within your business.

NRSWA Supervisors Units 1 and 10 - 14 and 16

To provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform Supervisor duties to the standards prescribed by SQA in-line with the NRSWA Act 1991, in order to safeguard themselves and others.

A separate Certificate is issued for each unit. In addition, various combinations of the units will lead to a full Street Works qualification for which an SWQR Card will be awarded.

5 Days.

Maximum of 4 delegates per course.

NRSWA Operators Units 1-6 & 9 or Units 1-7 & 9

To provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform Operator duties to the standards prescribed by SQA in line with the NRSWA Act 1991, in order to safeguard themselves and others.

A separate Certificate is issued for each unit. In addition, various combinations of the units will lead to a full Street Works qualification for which an SWQR Card will be awarded.

5 Days.

NRSWA Re-assessment

This 2 Day course is designed for Operators and Supervisors who have experience of working on highways and who already hold a current SWQR Card that is not yet out of date but needs renewing.

Successful Operators and Supervisors will be issued with an SQA Certificate and an SWQR Card renewing the Card for units they have already taken.

2 Days.

Maximum of 16 delegates per course.

NRSWA Operators Hot Lay Unit 7

To provide delegates with a sound understanding of NRSWA Unit 7, which is the reinstatement of Hot Lay Bituminous Materials and to comply with the mandatory requirements of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991.

On successful completion the delegates will be issued with an SQA Certificate.

1 Day.

Maximum of 8 delegates per course.

NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding Re-assessment (Operators or Supervisors)

This course is for Operators or Supervisors who undertake the setting out of traffic lights, cones, signs and barriers and whose SWQR Card is due to expire.Your current SWQR Card must still be valid and must not have expired before the reassessment is taken.

On successful completion the delegates will be issued with an SQA Certificate and SWQR Card.

Half Day.

Maximum of 16 delegates per course.

Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus (Cat & Genny)

This course is designed to make delegates aware of the dangers involved in excavating on public highways and private land, training them to detect and avoid most buried apparatus.

Delegates will receive an SQA Certificate.

1 Day.

Maximum of 8 delegates per course.

NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding Unit 2 (Operators)

This course is designed for all personnel employed by local authorities, utilities and their contractors for the purpose of Signing, Lighting and Guarding of any road works in the highway.

Delegates will receive an SQA Certificate and SWQA Card.

1 Day.

Maximum of 6 delegates per course.

NRSWA Signing, Lighting & Guarding Unit 10 (Supervisors)

This course is designed for all supervisory staff employed by local authorities, utilities and their contractors for the purpose of Signing, Lighting and Guarding of any road works in the highway.

Delegates will receive an SQA Certificate and SWQA Card.

1 Day.

Maximum of 4 delegates per course.

CITB Site Safety PlusThe Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Site Safety Plus Scheme, provides the building, civil engineering and related industries with a range of courses for people looking to develop skills in this area.

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

Designed for Site Managers, Agents and persons who are, or are about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff.

Covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessments in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course the delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, which is valid for five years.

5 Days. Available as a week block or Day release of 1 Day per week over 5 weeks.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Refresher

This CITB course gives delegates an understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health and welfare and current health and safety legislation, including risk assessment.

Delegates must already hold a valid Site Management Safety Scheme (SMSTS) Certificate that has been gained within the previous five years. Your current Certificate must still be valid and must not have expired before the refresher is taken.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course the delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, which is valid for five years.

2 Days.

CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)

This CITB two-day course is intended for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities. It provides Supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will highlight the requirement to promote health and safety to supervise effectively.

This course is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group UKCG as the standard training for all Supervisors working on UKCG sites and, as such, the course must be delivered as laid out by them in the following programme.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course the delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, which is valid for five years.

2 Days.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS)

This CITB Site Environmental Awareness Scheme (SEATS) course will help you understand environmental management issues on site and best practice techniques and legal compliance.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course the delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC)

This CITB Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) course provides delegates with a basic understanding of how attitude, behaviour, communication and worker engagement at all levels can help prevent the chances of accidents occurring.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

CITB Health & Safety Awareness

This CITB Health & Safety course provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues identifying individual responsibilities or looking after yourself and others, what the employer’s duties are and what should be done if they think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.

On successful completion of the course a 5 year nationally recognised Site Safety Plus Certificate will be awarded. This qualification helps delegates work towards their green CSCS labourers card.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher

This CITB course provides an update on health and safety, welfare and environmental issues, including:

Noise and vibration Dermatitis Asbestos Drugs and alcohol Stress factors Dynamic risk assessment procedures Your current Certificate must still be valid and must not have expired before the refresher is taken.

Delegates must attend all days and all sessions. On successful completion of the course the delegates are awarded the Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Certificate, which is valid for five years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

IOSHAs a specialist in health, safety and skills training we deliver Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) training for your specific needs to ensure all your staff are aware of all Health & Safety responsibilities in the workplace.

An ideal introduction to health and safety from an employee perspective, working safely and IOSH Managing Safely are both comprehensive courses aimed at different levels covering Health & Safety, law, legislation and the hazards associated and required control measures.

IOSH Working Safely

This course provides delegates with an understanding of their individual and collective duties to contribute to health and safety in the workplace.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded the IOSH Working Safely Certificate.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

IOSH Managing Safely 3 Days

This condensed three day course covers the same content as the four day course, this is a comprehensive and fast paced course as the four day syllabus is adjusted to fit the three days. Although this means longer days we understand that taking time out from work for training can be difficult so this three day course simply makes it more convenient.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded the IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.

3 Days condensed course with each Day starting at 08:00 and finishing at 17:30.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

IOSH Managing Safely 4 Days

The aim of the course is to ensure that safety requirements are appreciated by people employed as Managers and enable them to review their own departmental systems for safety, introducing new controls or implementing changes as appropriate to make their workplace safer.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded the IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.

4 Days.

NEBOSHA National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate is the first step to a Health and Safety Career and is an A-Level equivalent qualification.

The range of NEBOSH courses we deliver offer in depth knowledge to the management of health and safety, legislation, law and the hazards associated and required control measures. NEBOSH is a globally recognised health and safety qualification that is held by more than 100,000 people in the UK and worldwide.

NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management

The NEBOSH National Certificate in Environmental Management, or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate for short, covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk and environmental health and safety.

A NEBOSH Certificate will be issued for each exam successfully completed.

5 Days plus 1 Day for the exams.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety

On completion of the training delegates will have the skills and knowledge to identify procedures and systems within their organisation to minimise the risk to persons within the organisation and the skills to develop safe working procedures.

A NEBOSH Certificate will be issued for each exam successfully completed.

15 Days plus 1 Day for the exams.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

On completion of the training delegates will have the skills and knowledge to identify procedures and systems within their organisation to minimise the risk to persons within the organisation and the skills to develop safe working procedures.

A NEBOSH Certificate will be issued for each exam successfully completed.

10 Days plus 1 Day for the exams.

First AidWhether you are looking to become a trained first aider or simply want to refresh your existing qualification, we have the perfect range of First Aid training.

First Aid at Work

This three Day course ensures delegates have a full understanding of the basic principles to be carried out in the event of an accident in the workplace.

Delegates will be issued with a Day First Aid Certificate accredited by Qualsafe Awards on successful completion of the course. This Certificate is valid for 3 years.

3 Days.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Emergency First Aid At Work Level 2 is designed to ensure delegates have a full understanding of the basic principles to be carried out in the event of an emergency in the workplace. This course is ideal for all levels of personnel within all industries, who have been nominated for first aid duties.

Delegates will be issued with a Day First Aid Certificate accredited by Qualsafe Awards on successful completion of the course. This Certificate is valid for 3 years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

Our First Aid training courses are Qualsafe accredited. On successful completion of the First Aid courses, you will be issued with a Qualsafe Certificate in addition to receiving credits from the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) to the level of course you complete. For example our one day Emergency First Aid at Work course earns you two QCF credits and our three day, more in depth, First Aid at Work course gives you three QCF credits.

Driver CPCWhether you are a new driver and want to gain a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification for the first time, or simply need to renew your existing one, our approved partners can provide training for all your driving needs.

Driver Hours Module

This course covers the application of regulations including Drivers Hours, daily and weekly rest periods, the use of digital and analogue tachographs and recording of other driver activities.

JAUPT approved Driver CPC Certificate and qualification. All drivers who attend this course will qualify for 7 hours of the required 35 hours needed to complete the driver CPC qualification.

1 Day.

Maximum of 20 delegates per course.

You will need to complete 35 hours of regular training every five years to keep your Driver CPC qualification. The Driver Hours Module course we deliver will each give all drivers who attend seven hours of the required 35 hours needed to complete or refresh the driver CPC qualification.

Dust & Confined Spaces TrainingWorking together by offering a selection of course that on completion, delegates will increase their knowledge and understanding enabling them to carry out specific tasks within the workplace safely.

Confined Spaces (entry including escape breathing apparatus)

Operative training for any individual who enters spaces such as manholes, shafts and chambers. This course is designed to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of confined spaces.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an in-house UTN Training Certificate, valid for three years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 10 delegates per course.

Abrasive Wheels Theory & Practical

To provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with the use of abrasive wheels and to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an in-house UTN Training Certificate, valid for three years.

1 Day.

Maximum of 10 delegates per course.

Manual Handling

This course provides delegates with a thorough understanding of how to minimise the risk of injury to themselves and others when carrying out manual handling activities.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an in-house UTN Training Certificate, valid for three years.

Half Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

Asbestos Awareness

This course which complies with HSE requirements is a form of training suitable for all employees whose work could forseeably expose them to asbestos (Regulation 10 - control of Asbestos At Work Regulations 2006).

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive an in-house UTN Training Certificate, valid for 1 year.

Half Day.

Maximum of 12 delegates per course.

This gives you, as a delegate, the flexibility of choosing your own venue, from our network of training locations across the country at a cost-effective rate.
