HowhasmyattemptatdefiningNLP,havingreadthebookandnotunderstoodanyofitfromtheoriginalguywhowroteaboutit100yearsago?

Tony: I'dgiveitadefinitely5andahalfoutof10.

Essentially,it'sthestudyofhowpeopledothingswell.It'sthestudyofhowwecommunicatebetterwithourselvesandotherpeople.It'showwecanmanageourmoodsandreallyhowwecanhackourlivestobemoreproductiveandincreaseourperformancelevels.Youfocusedonthelinguistics.Therearealotoflinguisticsinthere,alotoflinguisticswhicharereallyfun,especiallywhenyouusethemonyourselfandthatkindofvoiceinyourhead.

There'splentymorethanthelinguistics.That'sthereasonthatIgotintoitbecauseIusedtoworkinradio.Iwasinterestedinmakingmyshowabetterexperienceforpeopletolistentoandgetthemtolistentolongeraswellandgetmorelisteners.That'swhyIgotintoitbuttherearesomanyotherfacetstoit.

IthinkNLP,it'snotthegreatestname,isit?Itwasinventedinthe70sbyRichardBandlerandJohnGrinderinCalifornia.Theycameupwiththisname.Iguesstheycameupwithit.I'mnotquitesurebutIguessthat'swhencomputersstartedtotakeoff.Computerswerethenewinthing.Theywantedacomputer-yterminologyintheirphrasebutactually,Ithinksomethingalongthelinesofneurohackingmightbemoreappropriateforthisdayandagebecausethat'sessentiallywhatitis.

Dave: It'strue.Infact,eitherWilliamGibsonorprobablymoreBruceSterlingwroteawholebookabouttheideaoffindingonesoundthatunlockedpeople'snervoussystems.It'sahugesocietalchangesitmade.

There'sdefinitelyabitofasciencefictioncomputerprogrammingperspectivetothisideathatjustusingwordsandgesturesproperlycanhaveaneffectonpeople'sbiology.It'sactuallyaverydeepsciencebutwhatIthinkisinterestingaboutyourworkisthatratherthanmystifyingitwhichisfranklywhatIsawwhenIreadtheoriginalbooks.Thisisnotsticking.

Givemeanexample.UsesomeNLPonme,makemerelax.Justkidding.ShowmehowyouwouldsaysomethingmaybetothevoiceinyourheadwithoutusingNLPtechniquessoyoushowmeanineffectivewayandshowmeamoreeffectivewaytodoit,thewaythatyouwouldteachinyourbooks.

ThefirstthingthatIdidwascomehometotheUK,gettestedbyawholehostofneurologists.Whenyougetnumbpatchesinyourface,obviouslyyoumightbeworriedthatthere'ssomekindofstrokesymptoms.Thankfully,thatwasokay.

Then,Iguessmyinterestinbiohacking,Iwasdoingitbeforethat,beforeIgotillinthejunglebutthat'sbeentakentoanewlevel.Ilovetryingdifferentsupplementsanddifferentlifestylehackstoimprovemyenergyandwell-beinglevels.IthinkthattiesinwithNLPreallywell
