Gather
Grow
Go
These are among the oldest and first words we hear from God
through our ancient ancestors of faith, the
Israelites. These instructions from God are as
important and true today as they have ever
been. Putting God first and honoring God in
a special way one day per week is basic
and essential to the Christian life.
Jesus himself, while highly critical of the
church and church leaders, still found himself honoring the Sab-
bath and attending services faithfully.
Our corporate enjoyment of God is rooted in a great mystery:
the Trinity. God is one, but God is three in one. Because of this
unfathomable truth we can say that God experiences God more
fully and joyfully as three in one than if God were a separate
deity.
This means as we gather as the church we are not merely “going
to church,” we are participating in the greatest mystery and most
wonderful wonder that any individual or group of human beings
can ever experience: oneness with the body of Christ who to-
gether become one with Christ in God.
The Bible does instruct us to worship and pray privately, but that
will never be the fullest, deepest, most joyful experience of God
for us. There is a manifestation of Jesus’s presence that only oc-
curs when this happens: “Where two or three are gathered in my
name, there am I among them.”
During these coming summer month as you vacation or go north
for weekends, please enjoy yourself. Get renewed through rec-
reation, that’s important. But don’t neglect to honor God, that’s
even more important. If you can’t be here Sunday, come on
Wednesday.
Worship with Holy Communion every Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.
through the summer.

TLC QUILTERS aka
“THE NUTTY KNOTTERS”
Fifteen TLC women meet Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - noon to
tie warm, beautiful quilts which are donated to Luther-an World Relief, Cornerstone, Bridging and Bundles of Love. In 2015, the group put together 319 quilts. Sunday, May 8, quilts will be displayed on the pews. We are grateful for members’ generous donations of fabric. Throughout the church year we are
revisiting the seven marks of
discipleship as a useful guide for
Christian life in community.
May—June
Use our Gifts to Serve at TLC
During these months, as we reflect on our final
mark of discipleship at the close of the
church/school year, we have the opportunity to
give thanks for the many ways in which we
have been privileged to serve God and one
another in the TLC community. On May 1, Con-
firmation Sunday, we will give thanks for youth
leaders and mentors who have supported our
young people. On May 22 we will give thanks
for all the volunteers who make TLC happen.
As we reflect, we may also notice the Spirit
nudging us into new service possibilities for
next year.

As disciples of Jesus
we gather in grace,
grow in faith,
and go forth to serve.
Still in the afterglow of Easter, I’m looking for-
ward to several uplifting worship services coming
in May and June! May 1 brings our Confirmation
Services, which are always so moving and mean-
ingful. Hearing our students share their faith sto-
ries really energizes and excites me and my
faith. May 15 is Pentecost Sunday, and we will
enliven our worship with songs that beckon the
Holy Spirit into our sanctuary and into our lives.
May 22 is Trinity Sunday, and we will hear musical offerings from our
Chancel Choir, TLC Handbells, and Praise and Worship Team. May
29 is the Sunday when we switch to our Summer Worship Schedule,
with communion services at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. The Praise and
Worship Team continues to sing during the summer, leading worship
at 10:00 a.m. on the Second and Fourth Sunday of each month. June
5 will be the day we recognize our Graduates, as well as commission
our Youth Mission Trip Team. And don’t forget that our Wednesday
Oasis Service continues through the summer, so if you’re away at the
cabin on Sunday, you can still worship with communion each Wednes-
day at 6:15 p.m.
Come Hear the NLC on May 1 If you have never had a chance to hear the National Lutheran Choir
(NLC) that I sing in, May 1 would be a great first concert for you to
attend. The concert starts at 4:00 p.m. on what should be a beautiful
sunny spring day (easy travel) and is at Central Lutheran Church in
downtown Minneapolis (easy to get to, with great parking), and the
best part is this 30th Anniversary concert features the great music
from the Lutheran Choral Tradition here in Minnesota, representing
the great college choirs and their conductors and composers: St. Olaf,
Concordia, Gustavus, Augsburg, and Luther. Go to NLCA.com, call
612-722-2301, or talk to Karen Daniels (TLC’s NLC Ambassador) or
Rob Reid ([email protected]) to get your tickets for this exciting,
powerful, beautiful concert. You’ll be glad you did!

simple as sending a dollar sign and an amount.
If you want to designate a gift you can do that too. After the amount add a space and the following initials for the appropriate fund: BF = Building Fund, GM= Gifts and Memorials, FF= Foundation

You could save a life: 911 The best way to prevent death from drug or alcohol overdose is a call to 911. If you are with someone who is extremely drunk, high or uncon-
scious
don’t leave them alone

call 911. It could save his/her life

MARCH/APRIL 2016 Aubrey Patricia Barrett 03.6.2016
In preparation for their trip to Pine Ridge Reservation in June, our
high school missionaries will be taking part in a Sacred Sites Tour on
Saturday, May 7 12:30-5:30pm. This tour is open to anyone who
would like to join. Non-missionaries please rsvp to the church, sug-
gested donation $10 per person.
These tours of Dakota sacred sites are led by Jim Bear Jacobs and
Bob Klanderud and offer an opportunity to learn parts of Minneso-
ta history that are too often ignored, and to learn about them from
Native story-telling perspectives.
The tours center around the confluence of the Mississippi and
Minnesota rivers, what the Dakota refer to as Bdote, or "meeting
place of rivers." The tour stops include Fort Snelling, the site of the
Dakota internment camp following the Dakota-U.S. War, and Pilot Knob Hill, a traditional burial ground.
Sacred Sites Tours are an effort to create understanding and healing between Native American and non-Native
people, particularly those in various faith communities. Native people have suffered deep trauma over many
years, losing their land, language and culture, and all who call Minnesota home are the lesser for it. While many
people and institutions contributed to that trauma, it happened with the full participation of Christian churches.
We all still need healing; healing is doable, and churches have a role to play in healing.
Stories heal because they make invisible pain visible. The healing goes two ways, from the listener to the
storyteller, and from the storyteller to the listener.

Ministry Needs
Each month we feature one of the ways that the Transfigura-tion community reaches out be-yond the doors of the church to love God through loving and serving our
neighbor. Here’s what’s coming up:
May
Feed My Starving Children (www.fmsc.org) is commit-
ted to feeding God’s children in body and spirit. The
approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack
meals specifically formulated for malnourished chil-
dren, and the meals are shipped to distribution part-
ners that FMSC works with. FMSC have reached near-
ly 70 countries around the world since it was founded
in 1987 here in the Twin Cities.
Thanks to Bob Riley for scheduling packing sessions
most months of the year, usually at the Eagan site.
Packing sessions are about 2 hours in duration. Peri-
odically, TLC youth do a packing session. TLC also
provides financial support in each year’s budget.
FMSC is dependent upon volunteers. If you would
like to join a TLC team packing food at FMSC,
the next opportunities will be:
Thursday, May 12, noon to 2:00 p.m.
Monday, May 16, 6 :00 to 7:30 p.m.
Please contact the church or sign up on the Yellow
bulletin insert.
Mission Camp June 26—July 2
Each year, a group of TLC folks of all ages go
up to the beautiful Luther Dell Bible Camp and
help them fix up the camp for summer. We do
repairs, cleaning, painting and more. This camp is
an important partner in ministry and they are
grateful for the help. Sign up on the Yellow
bulletin inserts or by calling the church. We stay
for free and chip in a little for food.
VEAP met the March goal of 75,000 lbs. of food;
500 lbs. collected by TLC confirmands. For every $1 YOU donate, VEAP can purchase $7-$9 worth of food. Paper supplies needed in May. Thanks so much
for your contributions.
