ST. PETER SCHOOL CORNER: Patricia Anderson, Principal

We thank the Knights of Columbus for holding their Annual Pork Chop Barbeque last Sunday. All proceeds help St. Peter School.

The students will be lighting the first Advent candle at school Monday morning. They will also draw names of their Advent friend, for whom they will pray and send special greetings each week.

Please join us for Soup and Sandwiches with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 4 after the 10:30 liturgy. Please see the insert in today’s bulletin.

St. Peter students enjoy helping others through service project. They collect spare change in their classrooms all year long, which is used quarterly for a community service project. The 2nd quarter collection will be used to provide Christmas gifts for needy children in our community through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Students also participate in the Scholastic Reading Club Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. Students donate new pajamas in all sizes, and kindergarten will deliver them to Open Door Resource Center on Dec. 9. For each pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic will also include a new book.

ARE YOU WILLING TO HELP? We are still looking for a “few good men or women” to be preparation sacristans for the 10:30 am Sunday Mass. At the present time, we now have three generous people who are involved. We would like to have at least one more volunteer. This involves setting out the chalices, and ciboria as well as the water and wine. Sacristans usually light the altar candles and see that the appropriate church lights are on for Mass. It is a great privilege to be involved in this church ministry. The time you need to set aside would be from 10:00 am until your tasks are completed. Then you would be able to spend time in prayer until Mass begins. Thank you for your consideration. Please call Sister Jeanette at the parish office (419-294-1268) to offer your assistance. Thank you!

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE November 2016 Winners: $1,000 – Keith Koehler $500 – Otto & Rosy Binau $250 – Rosalie Pahl

We have sold 262 tickets, giving $21,650 to St. Peter School. Thanks to those who bought tickets. It is not too late to purchase your ticket! The next monthly drawing will take place on December 21! Contact Amy Hinesman740-496-1311, Jon Rieser 740-496-3895, or Heidi and Jerry Vent 419-294-3419 for more information. CHURCH MINISTRY INVOLVEMENT: Very soon we will be working on the ministry schedules for January through June. We are in need of Hospitality Ministers for the 5:00 pm and the 10:30 am Masses in Upper. If you are a person who enjoys helping others and being a welcoming presence before Mass, this is YOUR KIND OF MINISTRY! Please consider offering yourself for this much needed involvement in the parish. ALSO – if you are currently serving in the ministry of Eucharistic Minister, Server, or Hospitality and you are no longer able to serve in these ministries, please call the parish office (419-294-1268) and ask for Sister Jeanette. If you verbally told Sister that you are willing to help, please e-mail her or call the parish office on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, to remind her. Thank you.

THE SEASON OF ADVENT (from the Latin “adventus” meaning “coming”) precedes Christmas. Starting with the first Sunday closest to November 30th, it marks the first season of the church’s Liturgical year. Pope John Paul II once remarked that he hoped that Advent would be a time for us to strengthen our commitment to our Christian faith. Focusing on the Nativity as well as on the Second Coming reminds us of the timelessness of God’s love, and of the importance of showing others His love in our thoughts, words, and actions. Advent reminds us to give of ourselves and to be open to reflecting Christ’s presence in our lives, as we think about His being born in a manger in Bethlehem to redeem us from our sins so that we may share Eternal Life with Him in Heaven! Advent prayers like the one below reflect this spirit:.

Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the ways of Your Only begotten-Son, that we may attain to serve You with purified minds, through His advent. Who with You, lives and reigns in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE ADVENT PRAYER AT CHURCH ON SUNDAY, AT 2:00 PM. WE WILL HAVE EXPOSITION, SCRIPTURE READINGS, A BRIEF REFLECTION AND BENEDICTION.

THE WELCOME COMMITTEE is offering a meal to new parents returning home from the hospital with your new-born miracle of life. This is an opportunity for the family not to have to worry about what to prepare for supper. Please call Mary Riedlinger or Joan Kincade if you would like to have a nice dinner with no cooking worries.

THE WELCOME COMMITTEE: Social Gatherings in Upper are held after the 5:00 pm and 10:30 am Masses on SPECIFIED weekends at St. Peter School cafeteria. The gym doors will be open for those who have difficulty with stairs, giving you access to the cafeteria thru the gym. Food, drinks and socializing are free! We are looking for groups or families that are willing to host a weekend. You choose the menu! Please contact Mary Riedlinger at (419)731-4440, or Joan Kincade at (419)310-0560, if your group or family would like to host a gathering. St. Mary Chapel serves donuts after the 8:30 am Mass on the first Sunday of the month.
