What is Chronic Sinusitis?

Sinuses are air-� lled pockets behind the facial bones surrounding the nose. Each sinus has an opening through which mucus drains. This drainage keeps your sinuses working well and you healthy. Anything that obstructs that � ow may cause a buildup of mucus in the sinuses, which may lead to infection and in� ammation of the sinuses.

Sinusitis occurs when the linings of your nose, sinuses and throat become in� amed, possibly from a pre-existing cold or allergies. Chronic sinusitis is when this in� ammation lasts three months or more.

The Vent-Os Sinus Dilation System is a small capsule device that is temporarily placed into your sinus opening by your doctor. It absorbs the moisture from the linings of your nasal passage to gradually expand the sinus opening and restore drainage.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your doctor may place and remove the capsule device during your sinus surgery in the operating theatre or as a procedure performed in the clinic.
