TRC ADVANTAGES: DIVERSIFIED & CERTIFIED
In a global marketplace such as we live in today, the advantage goes to the company that maintains
a diversified workforce which understands, respects and responds to the needs of the client in the
locale where the project and client reside. TRC employs a professional staff of men and women of
virtually all races, religions and backgrounds who can deliver your project on time and within budget
in all areas that we serve.
As we all know governmental agencies nationwide are rushing to get “shovel ready” projects
awarded. Many of these organizations (and private clients as well) require minority business
participation. To compete for those contracts, companies must be registered and certified with any
of several different agencies which may be available depending on the various political jurisdictions.
In order to give our clients that extra edge, TRC has been certified as a Minority Business Enterprise
(MBE) in the states of Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, South
Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. TRC has met the requirements as defined by the National Minority
Supplier Development Council, Inc. (NMSDC). TRC can quickly gain certification with other agencies
or jurisdictions which the client may require. The TRC Advantage: Diversified and Certified.

ring Memorial Hospital & Health Systems – North and South Pavilions
South Bend, Indiana
Memorial Hospital of South Bend is a regional referral center for cardiac, cancer, childbirth, and emergency
medicine and rehabilitation services. This facility provides a variety of health care services to the community,
ranging from inpatient care to home care, medical supplies, pharmacy services and occupational health
services, as well as primary care physicians and specialists.
North Pavilion:
This multi-phased surgery expansion adds a
building with three stories and a basement to
the South Bend campus of Memorial Hospital &
Health System. With 16 new operating rooms, a
post-anesthesia care unit, holding, support and
central sterile areas, the expansion has all the
right components for a successful surgery
center. A new main entrance canopy makes a
positive first impression that is reinforced with
the inviting lobby, registration and support
areas. Visitors can retreat to a new café and gift
shop. A new 10,500SF energy center supports
the growing campus. The energy center
provides additional space for loading docks,
shipping, and receiving. The plant will be able to
expand another 11,500 square feet as energy
requirements increase. The new energy center
is designed to supply 7,200 tons of chiller water,
6,000-6,500 KW of emergency power and 1,200
BHP of high pressure steam. In addition, it
serves as the domestic water service entrance,
normal power service entrance and fire
protection service entrance. High efficiency hot
water boilers will be utilized for heating the
building in response to rising energy costs and
decreasing operating budgets.
South Pavilion:
A new emergency room and obstetrics addition positionMemorial Hospital as a dynamic medical facility for the
South Bend region. The newdepartment improves patient
privacy, with a large waiting room separate from the
area where nurses assess incoming patients. All new
treatment rooms are private as well. The heart of the emergency department is a row of trauma rooms which are directly connected to the hospital’s operating rooms by a dedicated corridor. Adjacent is a 10-bed observational unit providing extended care for patients who may need more complex tests and treatments. The x-ray diagnostic department is also nearby. New suites for obstetrics patients complement existing facilities in the hospital and offer the latest in care for pregnant women and newborns.

Indianapolis, Indiana
This new acute care bed tower expands and consolidates the Indianapolis campus, integrating with the campus’ current services. The cost-effective strategy and design solution creates efficiencies and positions the hospital to be responsive in the future.
The project adds 192 beds (medical/surgical) to the existing 162 beds within the Women’s Center and Heart Hospital. It also includes expansions of the emergency department, imaging, surgery and clinical support spaces. The design offers flexibility. It provides for vertical expansion capability (128 beds) and supports evolutions of technology and care delivery.
The CVP Institute features modern technology like an online library, wireless phones linked to a nurse call system, wireless monitoring of vital signs, and a cardiac tech room with telemetry monitors. The open Key space adjacencies benefit staff and help patients and family navigate the facility. On the inpatient floors, care stations are located between every two rooms. Acuity-adaptable rooms help minimize patient transitions and improve outcomes. The design of the first floor-dedicated to outpatient care - reduces travel time. Patients visiting the cath labs walk half the steps than at the previous facility. From the lobby, there is easy access to the pharmacy, chapel, and gift shop. The heart/vascular surgery suite includes video hookups to the cath labs, which have digital coronary imaging.
The capabilities of the existing energy center were evaluated as part of the planning and design of the new heart hospital. In order to support the Cardiac and Vascular Care Center and provide flexibility for future campus growth, the energy center was expanded and reconfigured. The expansion is designed to supply 6,000-6,500 tons of chilled water, 5,000-5,500 KW of emergency power, 2,800 BHP of high pressure steam, plus domestic service entrance and fire protection service entrance.

Foster Medical Pavilion - Swedish Covenant Hospital Chicago, Illinois
Chilled beams contribute to energy efficiency Convinced that continued investments into outdated facilities were not the long-term solution, Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Board of Directors made a decision to complete a facility master plan to position the hospital for future success. The issues for the hospital included right-sizing outpatient and inpatient programs impacted by closing nearby hospitals, a lack of physician office space and inconsistent experiences due to a dated and varying facility design. A planning team assessed these concerns and developed a master plan that created short-term relief and long-term efficiencies while aligning assets for future success. Efficiencies included uniformity, added space, and an infrastructure improvement in aged existing inpatient unites which will add in sustaining a safe and compliant environment.
Phase one consists of the new medical office building, new energy center and parking garage expansion. This new medical office building increases physician office space and creates a new outpatient ambulatory surgical center for Swedish covenant Hospital. The medical office building expands the campus to the north and the parking facility decentralizes parking. Larger operating rooms in the MOB will increase efficiency and comfort.
A new energy efficient central plant will serve this pavilion. Heat recovery chillers will generate simultaneous chilled and heating water. These heat recovery chillers will be supplemented by a variable speed screw chiller and high efficiency condensing boilers. The ASC will be conditioned by means of an all air VAV system while the MOB will be conditioned by 4-pipe chilled beams. Primary to these chilled beams is supplied by a 100% O.A. Unit.
The energy usage for this Pavilion is expected to be 18% better than ASHRAE 90.1 2007. The core and shell building is being submitted for LEED Silver.

Pharmacy Study West Virginia started reviewing all state pharmacies for compliance with USP Chapter 797 in January 2008. Five pharmacies at three facilities within the hospital system were evaluated for compliance with respect to its ability to age, code compliance and the ability to deliver adequate conditioning to the pharmacies. The electrical systems were evaluated with respect to their capacity related to any required HVAC additions and/or modifications.
A plan was created that included programmatic and infrastructure modifications that would bring these five pharmacies into compliance by the state-mandated deadline. For cost‐effective implementation, a phased schedule developed for the modifications required at the pharmacies.
