A man of free spirit and wonder, Mohsin Talukder, is a teacher of Economics and Business Studies at Sunnydale, CGS-D and Playpen for O and A level students. Talukder is loved by all his students for his incredible teaching skills, sincerity in his work and his magical ability to be a friend to all his pupils. “He has a pleasant personality” says Sabreen Kabir an ex-Scholastican. “Sir has the great ability to explain our studies properly to us and always encourages us to go beyond our capabilities.” When asked about his teaching techniques, Talukder said that he never punishes his naughty students, rather he counsels them and makes them realise what it would have felt like to be in the other disturbed students’ shoes, this makes him guide and an inspiration to them. airpLayWe’ve got a fun experiment with a ball and a balloon, for all you scientists out there. Read on to find out.

What you need• A balloon• A table tennis ball• An electric hair dryer with

circular nozzle

What you need to doFirstly, you need to blow a balloon and tie the end. Then hold the balloon above your head then release it and try to keep it in the air by blowing it. Take note of the result. Next, follow the same steps but this time using an electrical hair dryer to keep the balloon in the air. This time, you will be able to keep the balloon in the air, but not for long, because the dense air will make it fall. In the next experiment you will see that the balloon is floating because the hairdryer is decreasing the pressure in the air causing it to float. The same can be observed using a hairdryer and table tennis ball.

My PET STory

People say that dogs make better pets than cats, because cats are not very loyal or loving. I don’t agree. I can’t imagine a more loving friend than my cute, intense-looking all-black cat, Djarth Vader.

His is a sad story. Djarth was found by Obhoyoronno staff on one of their rounds in Mohammadpur, next to a sewage pipe. He was sitting next to his dead twin brother, and his other siblings and their mother had also passed away. When they picked him up, this friendly baby started purring.I got Djarth when he was three weeks old, and today, this best friend of mine is seven months old.

too. When I am about to eat, he has to get the first bite. He spends all day doing whatever he wants – running around scratching sofas and breaking vases – but at night, he has to sit on my belly and I have to pet him till he falls asleep.

He is moody and jealous. He gets upset when I spend time with friends because I belong to only him, and he is almost violent when someone sits on his spot on my bed.

This is his way of letting me know that he loves me. Whenever I leave home, he tries to come with me, and when I come back, he runs to the door from wherever he is to greet me. He can make me mad, but he can also make me laugh, and really, I cannot imagine my life without him. rohini alamgir

What you need• A balloon• A pop-top cap from a liquid

soap bottle or a water bottle• Hot stationary glue

What you need to doTake a CD/DISC, cover the centre hole with a piece of tape and poke six holes in the tape with a push-

pin. Then, glue the cap of a water bottle to the centre of the CD or DVD disc. Create a good seal to keep the air from escaping. Blow up the balloon all the way and pinch the neck of it. Make sure the pop-top is closed and fits the neck of the balloon over the pop-up portion of the cap. When you’re ready for it to start hovering, simply put the craft on a smooth surface and pop the top open.

How it worksThe air flow created by the balloon

causes a cushion of moving air between the disc and the surface. This lifts the CD and reduces the friction which allows the disc to hover freely. Large scale hovercrafts are capable of travelling over land, snow and water. avita mEhEEn
