CAMPUS EXPANSION & DEVELOPMENTTrent University Durham’s modern Thornton Road Campus may only be five years old, but the University’s presence in the Durham Region goes back four decades. Since 1974, Trent University Durham has been granting degrees in the region.

The University has exciting plans for future development and expansion. With dynamic new academic programs being added each year, and plans to grow our student body to 2,500, plans are underway to create beautiful new spaces and state-of-the-art facilities for Trent University Durham students.

Working with the city, the community, and our students, discussions and plans are underway to expand our campus on Thornton Road. We are exploring adding new lab spaces and lecture halls, a student centre, academic offices, on-campus residence, and more. It’s an exciting time to be a student at Trent University Durham!

OUR ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP GUARANTEE Achieve an average of 80% or higher in your final year of high

school and you automatically receive an entrance scholarship to

Trent. Achieve an average of 90% or higher and your tuition is free.

Even if your final average decreases from the time the scholarship

offer was made, you will not lose your entrance scholarship,

as long as you still meet the minimum admission requirements

outlined in your Offer of Admission. That’s our guarantee to you.

And, if your final admissions average increases, you will be eligible

Child and Youth Studies/Care (B.A.)*

A unique new interdisciplinary degree program, Child and

Youth Studies/Care focuses on how children and youth learn through play. With a strong foundation in sociology and psychology, this degree inspires students to think about child and youth development through the eyes of a child. You will learn about child and youth rights and legal issues, and how children develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically. You will also gain a deep understanding of how to apply playful pedagogies for learning, especially in the areas of math and language. The program also has a rich focus on creative engagement, theatre and the arts. Choose from two degree options: (1) a four-year honours degree in Child and Youth Studies, which includes a placement course and provides graduates with the option to directly access Trent’s B.Ed. program through a limited number of reserved spaces; or (2) a general degree in Child and Youth Care, offered in collaboration with Durham College, through which you will receive a three-year Trent University general degree and a two-year Child and Youth Worker (CYW) diploma from Durham College. Drawing from courses in Anthropology and Cultural Studies to

Business Administration and Computer and Information Studies, you will study complex questions about society and the media through an interdisciplinary lens. You will explore the ways in which information in the digital age is consumed, lived, and organized, and how contemporary media environments differ from those in the past. Human Resources Management – Postgraduate Certificate

While studying Human Resource Management (HRM) at Trent,

students will consider not just what organizations do, but what human resources should do, and why. It is an experience where we seek to develop the HR thinkers of the future, helping to lead the organizations of the future. The program approaches the topic of Human Resource Management – understanding how to attract and manage employees in today’s organizations – from a balanced perspective, weighing the needs of both employers and employees. This intensive postgraduate certificate program includes 11 half-year courses in Human Resources, Accounting, and Economics, which make up the course requirements for the CHRP designation once candidates pass the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) National Knowledge Exam.™ The program may be completed in one year of full-time studies, or in two or more years through part-time studies.

Psychology is defined as the scientific study of behaviour and the mind. You will study the principles of behaviour through lectures, labs, seminars and research. The challenging field of Social Work provides essential supports to communities by helping its individuals, groups, and families meet their basic human needs while simultaneously working towards creating the conditions necessary for social change and equality. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum grounded in social justice, human rights, and cultural awareness, you will develop a strong foundation of clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and social responsibility. Students must apply to enter into the professional years in year 3. Admission will be limited and offered on a competitive process. This program provides students with a strong foundation for application to a consecutive teacher education program, and ultimately the teaching profession. It is taken concurrently with an Honours B.A. or B.Sc. degree. Students gain practical and theoretical knowledge through course work, participation in two workshops per year on current issues in education, and 75 hours (over four years) of experiential placements. Each year, a number of spaces in the Trent Consecutive Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program are reserved for graduates of this Teacher Education Stream.

Why Trent?

• Although completion of the Teacher Education Stream (TES) program does not guarantee admission to the B.Ed. program, the TES provides an outstanding foundation for a later application to the B.Ed., and is recommended as the best pathway to take at Trent for those undergraduate students who know they want to become teachers.

HOW TO APPLY

TRANSFER FROM COLLEGE OR ANOTHER UNIVERSITYTransfer from University

Applicants transferring to Trent University from an accredited Canadian university must have successfully completed a minimum of one semester, with a final average of 65% to be considered for admission. Individual courses with a minimum grade of 60% will be evaluated for transfer credits.

Transfer from College

Applicants who have completed at least one semester in a Canadian community college, with a minimum cumulated average of 65% will be considered for admission. Each course with a minimum grade of 70% will be evaluated for individual transfer credit.

UNIVERSITY TRANSFER PATHWAYSTrent’s unique General Arts and Science University Transfer programs with colleges are designed for students who want to develop their skills, knowledge, and self-confidence to be successful in university.

Students who complete the two semester college program are eligible to enter a degree program at Trent University in a number of disciplines, beginning in year two, providing their grades meet the required averages.
