Happy Spring Many of us attended the State Convention at the Cape. The speaker on Saturday, Richard Palanzo SD, of CT was very informative on rejuvenating a lodge. The great part of his talk was that Tri-City has been practicing his “recipe” for the last few years with all of our updates to our building & grounds and also increasing our membership. We are heading in the right direction! We had our crazy hat and best costume contest Saturday night. Congratulation to East Providence Lodge #2337 who won both and will receive the proceeds collected to be paid toward their lodge ENF donations. Hope to see you at the Tiki Bar now that it is open for Car Shows on Thursday nights and other events planned. Also, the deck IS open with new furniture & umbrellas. The Fish Frys have ended for the summer, but there will Pizza on Friday nights made to order with your favorite items. The season opened with our first Classic Car Show on May 18. It was great. Weather was perfect, beautiful classic cars. This could not be done without our many volunteers; Rob Caramonte was our music man, Michele was bartending, Charlene & Sam along with Lacy & Paul on the grill and Cheryl & Steve taking care of our raffle. Thank you all and also for our members and friends who attended the show. The Lodge would not be what it is without our members. Please come in and enjoy the company of your fellow members. Secretary’s Message Hello All, Last month I said Spring has sprung. I am still waiting except for those three Summer days we had. Despite the cool weather several things still happened here at your Lodge. We celebrated Cinco De Mayo Day, celebrated Mother’s Day with a special Ritual, held a Safety course for kids, had our first car show of the season and we initiated ten new members in May. We have six candidates waiting Investigation and four waiting indoctrination. With regards to the Safety course, the day included bike safety, cyber safety with Police and Fire personnel present. Each child received a helmet and knee pads/ elbow pads sets for participating. There were also 2 bikes that were raffled off. This is just one of the things we do for the Community. Presently there are 756 members in our Lodge, up from 703 as of April 2016. We were forced to drop 65 members last year for nonpayment of dues. Imagine, if those 65 had paid their dues we would be on our way to 900 members. There are 147 members who haven’t paid their 2017/2018 dues as of this writing. If your number is among those listed, please consider bringing your membership up to date. We will be sending reminder notices out at the end of June or early July. With regard to any dropped member, we have changed our by-laws and changed the reinstatement fee from $25.00 to $1.00 plus the prorated dues for the balance of the year. By the time you receive this message our steak fry would have come and gone. There were 150 tickets for this event sold out within three days. David Knight is chairing this event and I am personally looking forward to it. I hope the weather is perfect for the day of steaks grilled on the open pit. Changing subject a little, I have heard the following or similar statement in the past several months at the different functions: I have said I would help out anytime, call me or something of that nature. When I am at some function, I do not write down what is said and most times do not remember who said what. Please consider volunteering instead of being asked. For instance, we have a weekly car show. To make this event work we need a person to handle the grill, someone to prep the food, an order and money taker, someone to handle the 50/50 raffle, a runner to assist the bartender just to mention a few. It would be great if we had enough VOLUNTEERS so no one had to work more than once a month. Everyone could have a couple of weeks off to enjoy the show or just relax. This car show will extend into early Autumn if the weather stays nice so there is plenty of time to help.
MEMORY BRICKS
They will be placed outside at the patio on “Golden Pond”. You can donate one in your name, a loved one or another Elk friend. The cost of the Bricks will be $50 FOR A 4x8 and $75 for a 8x8. Please ask the Bartender for a form to place your order or download a copy from our website.

June 14th 1907, Flag Day
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has celebrated the holiday since the early days of the organization and allegiance to the flag is a requirement of every member. In 1907, the BPOE Grand Lodge designated by resolution June 14 as Flag Day. The Grand Lodge of the Order adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every Lodge in 1911, and that requirement continues. The Elks prompted President Woodrow Wilson to recognize the Order's observance of Flag Day for its patriotic expression. We will be observing the Flag Day Ritual at the Johnston Senior Center this year. It is a very moving ritual. The ritual will begin at 11:00 with a light luncheon afterward. Please sign up on the sheet posted in the lounge area if you would like to be there. We will need to know how many will be attending the luncheon.
