Hope this summer season is going well for you all. The National Convention was held in Reno, Nevada this month. It was very hot but no humidity. My kind of weather ! There were more than 6000 Elks present this year. Great turnout. There were 19 resolutions voted on 4 failed. I will post the results on the bulletin board. There were many good seminars held after the business meeting. I've brought back a lot of useful information. Congratulations to Donna Warner for being installed as District Deputy East and to Phil Malouin as District Deputy West. David Cioe, GLC from the Bristol Elks Lodge #1860 is the new Grand Lodge Committeeman for Area 1. The Providence Emblem Club #1 celebrated their 100th Birthday in February this year. I was honored to have been invited to their celebration this past Sunday. In October 1920 84 ladies of Elk families join the club and paid dues of $1.00. Their principal charity was making and delivering cancer dressings to Hattie Ide Chafee and Rose Hawthorne Homes. The Emblem ladies are still donating their time to needy organizations. The Emblem Club meets at our Lodge on the first Tuesday of each month. If anyone is interested in learning more about the Providence Emblem Club, please contact me. August 3rd. is the Special Needs Picnic held on the Masonic Park Youth Center grounds on Long Street in Warwick. We had many volunteers last year, everyone that was there knew that it was great to be an Elk that day. Hope to see you there. We have a Fundraiser this month, hosted by Tri City #14 and W. Warwick Lodge #1697. It is a Pig Roast with all the fixings. This is on Saturday, August 12th at 3:00. The Elks are planning on putting an Elk Monument at the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. The proceeds of this pig roast will be going towards the monument. Family Fun Day: August 27th. from 1:00 - 4. Families with children between the age of 6 and 13 are welcome. This is part of our Drug Awareness program to the children in our community. Stop in on a Thursday for one of the car shows. We have between 33 and 40 classic cars, good music and good grilled food. Or come in and purchase a personal pizza on a Friday night. This month pizza will be made on the 11th and the 18th. I would like to congratulate all of the outstanding Elks for 2016-2017 that were recognized at the Awards night. Citizen of the Year: Jim Bessette of Rigatoni's Family Restaurant. Officer of the Year: Lori Eaton, ER, Elk of the Year: Noel Petisce. Two Outstanding Elk awards were given to John Sabalewski and Richard DeLory. A Presidential Award was given to Matthew McGarry for all of his many volunteers hours for our community. Be safe and enjoy your summer. Fraternally Lori Eaton

Secretary’s Message
Hello All, Summer is progressing along nicely, though my golf score isn’t. My score could compete with a basketball team and sometimes even win. August is another busy month. It begins on the third when the State Elks Association hosts its’ Special Needs Picnic at Buttonwoods Park on Long Street in Warwick. This is the biggest event of the year and this year it will be even bigger than ever. They are expecting in excess of 1000 participants to avail themselves of the day and enjoy the fun and fellowship. It is one day that makes me proud to be an Elk and I know I am not the only one that feels like that. There will be volunteers from all over the state to help prepare, cook, serve the food, welcome the guests, play and oversee the different activities and in general just help. A lot of preparation has gone into this day and a big thank you goes to Mark Eaton, DDGER East as the chair of this event. He and his committee has put in countless hours planning the event, organizing the members working, arranging entertainment and a host of other items. All we can hope for now is a nice day weather wise. On August 12, 2017 we will co-host the annual pig roast at Tri City with West Warwick Lodge. Tickets are $20.00 each and are available at the bar. All the proceeds of this event will be given to the committee to erect an Elks Memorial at the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI. Lodges throughout RI will be hosting different events this year and beyond to bring this dream to a reality. We will be hosting the State Elks Association’s President and her suite of officers on August 16, 2017. for her official visit to Tri City Lodge. . Fraternally William J. Hall
