Acid and Fume Scrubbers

Fan/Separator®

Controls corrosive fumes better thanstandard wet scrubbers. Fumes generatedfrom steel pickling, hundreds of platingprocesses, aluminum anodizing and batterycharging can be eliminated more efficiently and with less water and energy using Tri-Mer’seasy-to-install Fan/Separator. Fan/Separatorscrubber sections and fans are made specifically to mate to each other – no fanundersizing. Fan outlet velocity is preciselycontrolled, so air crossing the rigid packedmedia never exceeds design parameters. Theunit is extremely efficient in eliminating corrosive contaminants with a resulting lowhumidity exhaust stack. This combination oflow humidity and high efficiency makes returnair possible in certain specialized applicationsincorporating the closed-loop Tri-Mer design.

Tri-Mer’s Fan/Separators can operate in the99% efficiency range, removing fumes contain-ing sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitricacid, plating exhaust and corrosive fumesresulting from metal finishing operations.

Requires less than 1/10 the water of mostwet scrubbers and uses 20% less brake horse-power due to its unique design, whichincorporates the fan as a centrifuge in thescrubbing process. Single-size units are available

up to 100,000 cfm. PVC or polypropylene arestandard materials of construction; fiberglass-overlayed PVC, 304 and 316L stainless steel or mild steel are available optionally.

VTB Packed Bed Scrubbers

Cloud Chamber Scrubber® (CCS®)

Revolutionary Technology

Is the “Ultimate Solution”

to Submicron Particulate

Tri-Mer Corporation has proved and commercialized a new technology for collectingsubmicron particulate.

The Cloud Chamber Scrubber® (CCS®) was developed by Tri-Mer Corporation andAtmospheric Physics, Inc. (Albuquerque, NM).

The CCS is a wet scrubber technology thatallows particulate and water droplets to becharged with an opposite polarity using just 600watts of power. In a Cloud Chamber Scrubber, billions of droplets and particles move continu-ously in relation to each other. As they approach10 microns of separation, electrical attractioncauses the particulate to enter the droplets. Thismeans that collector water droplets are delivered to the particulate in a way that has never beenaccomplished before. This fact is critical inunderstanding the function of the CCS.

CCS meets PM 2.5, and offers numerousother advantages over conventional devicesused for submicron control. Chief among themis the requirement of less than 1.0" of w.g. pressuredrop per stage under full load operation. By con-trast, Venturi systems typically require 40" to 70"of w.g. pressure drop; diffusion candles typicallyrequire 16" to 20" of pressure drop. This factoris a major contributor to the CCS system’s lowoperating costs. Also notable: the CCS is applic-able to both soluble and insoluble particulate.

Another distinguishing feature of the CCS isits ability to remove fumes and gases, includingHCl, HF, HNO3 , H2SO4 , SO2 , Cl2 and NH3 ,and others, simultaneously with particulate. This is important because now one device canhandle particulates and corrosive fumes simulta-neously. In practical terms, it gives managementthe ability to eliminate the maintenance costsand labor associated with packed towers.

Efficiencies of 99%+ are easily achievablewith the CCS equipment based on a micron sizebetween 0.1 and 0.9 microns. Particles above0.9 microns will also be collected at efficienciesof 99%+.

Tri-Mer Corporation has exclusive worldwiderights to commercialize CCS technology.

For particulate above 5 microns, Tri-Meroffers the Whirl/Wet® collector, which is 99% efficient or better over a wide range ofmicon sizes and for particulate both solubleand insoluble.

Packed Bed Systems/Multi-StageNOx Scrubbers/Tri-NOx

®

Process

Handles any NO/NO2 Ratio. Tri-Mer’s versatile Tri-NOx system accommodates anycombination of NO and NO2, including nitra-tion-related NOx, which is typically high on theNO2 scale and combustion-related NOx, whichis generally higher in NO. The system also handles N2O4.

Clear Stack Guaranteed. Tri-NOx technologyeliminates the visible plume generated by highNO2 loading. This yellow-brown colored emis-sion is commonly caused by processes usingnitric acid in conjunction with metal refining, metal finishing or chemical nitrations.

No CFM or PPM Limitations on Gas Input. Tri-NOx systems are efficient, versatileworkhorses that adapt to a wide range ofrequirements. Virtually any target stack outputcan be met, including reducing loads in excessof 100,000 ppm to below 10 ppm.

Predictable operation. All Tri-NOx systemsare guaranteed to operate within pre-determinedppm limits for stack output without repeatedadjustments. Tri-NOx is the technology ofchoice for industry located within districtswhere NOx emissions are most restrictive.

Chemically safe Tri-NOx systems can beengineered to handle NO2 exclusively if opacity is the only problem, or they will handle complete NOx output, (NO + NO2), for comprehensive NOx control.

The process is applicable to both hot andcold gas phase systems. It will handle multiplegas stream residuals, including Cl2, HCl, SO2,other acids, other gases, caustics and can bedesigned to handle particulates.

Incinerator Scrubbers

Tri-Mer’s Q-Scrub wet scrubber sectioninterfaces with all industrial, medical andmunicipal incinerators. Q-Scrub predictablyand reliably handles HCl, SO2, NOx, particu-lates and other gas stream contaminants. Theprocess can incorporate heat recovery, gasquenching and wet or dry particulate controland can incorporate the Tri-NOx process ifrequired by operation permit.

Odor Control

Tri-Mer odor control systems incorporatesingle-, dual- and triple-stage wet sections. The process includes alkali or acidic sectionsdepending on the odor source. Mercaptins, amines and dozens of uncommon industrialodor problems can be eliminated with the Tri-Mer system. Carbon systems can be incorporated if required.

Tri-Mer’s multi-stage system is guaranteedto operate free of detectable odor at the stackunder all conditions.

Packed Gas Scrubbers andVenturi Systems

Eliminate Cl2, SO2, HCl, HF, NH3 and otheroff-gas loads with the Tri-Mer chemical orwater packed bed dry sump process. Uniquedesigns incorporate low-energy packed towersas stand-alone systems and can include ven-turi designs as separate systems for processesrequiring higher energy output. Flexibility allowsstaging as required.

Tri-Packs®

Tower Packing

Tri-Packs represent a significant break-through in scrubber towerpackings. Their sphericaldesign provides maximumsurface contact between the gas and thescrubbing liquid by creating a continuous formation of droplets throughout the packedbed. This results in extraordinarily high scrubbing efficiency.

Tri-Packs develop a very low static pressureper foot of depth. They can often reduce boththe size of the tower needed and the amountof scrubbing liquid required.

Wet Dust CollectorWhirl/Wet®

Applicable for soluble and insoluble particulates. Tri-Mer’s Whirl/Wet performsequally well collecting soluble and insolubledust loads. Particulates settle to the bottom of the unit for easy disposal by a variety oftechniques.

Whirl/Wet’s unique, dual-opposed, inter-nally mounted blades develop 8” of watergauge while the system is operating as amedium-energy scrubber. The aggressiveaction of liquid and particulate over theblade system makes the unit impossible toclog. Collection efficiency ranges between95 and 99.9%, and is geared to meet specific grain loading requirements.

Whirl/Wets are applicable for partic-ulates greater than 1 micron. This wetdust collector can handle extremely highinlet grain loads with complete success 24hours per day with zero downtime. Tri-Mergenerally provides the Whirl/Wet dust col-lector and mating blower as a package.Blowers can be integral top-mounted orremotely located.

Materials of construction includecoated mild steel, 304 and 316L stainlesssteel and (unique to the industry) all-plasticmodels. Complete polypropylene construc-tion is recommended with abrasion or whencorrosives are present in the particulate mix and when an absolute non-stick, non-corrosive surface is desired.

Whirl/Wet is the simplest to maintainof any dust collection system currently inuse. It is self-cleaning and requires no recirculation pumps, recirculation tanks orcomplex plumbing commonly needed byother wet dust collectors. Particulateremoval is quick and uncomplicated byhopper-style, drain-down (manual or auto-matic), continuous conveyor drag-out, ormanual clean-out.

Tri-Mer’s Whirl/Wet (left) wet dust collector features an integral, top-mountedblower that eliminates most duct work andminimizes installation expense.

Whirl/Wet systems are ideal for thechemical and fertilizer industries, pulp andpaper processors, and operations involvingpowder such as food mixing/blending. It is also recommended wherever grindingor sanding are part of the manufacturingprocess.

Tri-Mer manufactures the Whirl/Wet incapacities up to 50,000 cfm.

The modular conveyor drag-out optionallows continuous removal of collected particulate. Unique Tri-Mer design eliminatesmaintenance problems commonly foundwith conveyors by using a slide-in/slide-out system.

The Whirl/Wet design eliminates the need for filter bags, cartridges and otherconsumable items required by dry systems.

For submicron particulate, Tri-Mer’sCloud Chamber Scrubber® (CCS®) is99% efficient, uses just 600 watts ofpower, meets MACT and EPA PM 2.5.
