This lesson our learning intentions are:

• Overview of the examinations/exam notification.• Review the prescribed texts for each section.• Practice questions for the AOS, Module A and Module C.• Practice Response Planning Trees & Summary Tables.

Overview of Trial HSC Examinations.

• You will have TWO English examinations during your Trial HSC examination period this term.

• Both of your papers will last 2 hours in duration, including reading time.

Overview of Paper 1:• Your first English Paper will be Paper 1 – Area of Study:

Discovery.

• The structure of your examination is:• Section 1: Reading – unseen texts and short answer responses –

15 marks.• Section 2: Creative Writing – you will compose a piece of creative

writing that explores the concept of ‘Discovery’ – 15 marks.• Section 3: Extended Response – you will explore how the concept

of ‘Discovery’ is conveyed in your prescribed text and related text/s of your own choosing – 15 marks.

Overview of Paper 2:• Your second English Paper will be Paper 2 –Modules.

This paper will be structured slightly different to your real HSC, as you haven’t completed all Modules yet!

• The structure of your examination is:• Section 1: Module A – you will compose an extended response that

explores your prescribed text and related text/s of your own choosing – 20 marks.

• Section 2: Module C – you will compose an extended response that explores your prescribed text and related text/s of your own choosing – 20 marks.

• An individual’s perceptions of personal discoveries are created through their experiences in the world and interactions with others.

• Explore the ways this view of discovery is or is not represented in your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing.

• Your prescribed text for this question is Michael Gow’s ‘Away’.

Module A: Experience Through Language Practice Question.

• How does the use of distinctive voices emphasise the ways that individuals respond to significant aspects of life?

• Your prescribed text for Module A is ‘One Night the Moon’ directed by Rachel Perkins.

• You have been provided with a hard copy of the extended response planning tree and summary table for the three questions we have just looked at.

• Spend the remainder of this week completing your planning tree and summary table, and composing your practice responses.

• I encourage you to get these responses to me before your Trials for feedback.
