The Trifecta of Marketing is really going to help you go from a frustrated business owner to one who is in the know. It will help you get outside out of the textbook definition that has nothing to do with marketing in the trenches.

It's time to look at marketing from a workman’s perspective.

It's time to put on the overalls and gloves and get into the trenches of what marketing really is. It's getting your message, the right message, to the right people with the right media. And doing it efficiently, effectively and profitably.

When you don’t have big budgets to work with, any good opportunity that is missed because of a bad decision with your marketing could really have bad consequences in your business. It really doesn’t need to be that way.

Marketing works but it’s all about knowing good marketing from bad marketing.

So let’s dig in to what the Trifecta of Marketing really is.

1 - Your Market.

Your market is the “who.” Who are you trying to talk to? Who do you want to work with? This is more about understanding your ideal client so you don't have to take just anyone and everyone.

It's time to understand that you can work with exactly who you want to work with and start building a business around those people.

It comes down to you identifying that ideal client. There is a big difference be-tween the needs of just athletes and football athletes. There's a big difference between the needs of baseball athletes and soccer athletes. The more unique you can tailor your client base the better.

This makes up one leg of your Trifecta.

2 – Your Message

The second leg of the Trifecta is Message.

What are you trying to say? What's the message that your going to work into everything that you market? There are trainers who have taken the stance that cardio is the devil. Other trainers may decide to focus on motivat-ing pregnant mothers to start focusing on their exercise and nutrition plan throughout the duration of their pregnancy instead of waiting until after their baby is born.

You need to start focusing on your message and want you want to get out there.

3 – The Media

Once you know who you are going to talk to, your market, and what you're going to say; you will start to understand the third leg of the Trifecta, Media.

Media relates to the “how” and the “where” and it's how you are going to get the message out there.

You can get the message out via email, social media, ad or affiliates. Then you need to figure out the where. Is this going to be in a newsletter, a TV spot, a radio ad, email, social media? Some things have crossed over that but it’s still all about the how and the where.

Let's look at an example:

1 - The Market – The Who

Marathoners. Lots of fitness professionals love working with marathoners. So for this example, Marathoners are the Ideal Client.

2 - The Message - The What

The message might be about cross training for marathons. Focusing on stretching, flexibility and recovery training can help the client compete and complete that marathon better. Remember it's about what you want to get out there about your program.

3 - The Media – The How and the Where

You can put that ad in a newspaper and hope marathoners see it or you can think strategically and go to Road Runner Sport and ask if you can contribute articles or blogs to their newsletter. You could even take out an ad since they concentrate on the marathon population.

Now you are being smart about how you use that little Trifecta.

It’s all about who you want to talk to, what you want to say and where you're going to put it.

The better you get at understanding those things fundamentally, all of a sudden marketing makes sense. It’s easy and it feels good and natural because all you have to think about is who you want to teach, how you're going to teach it and where you're going to put it so they can see it.

It doesn’t get more complicated than that.

Of course there's more to dig into with each of these items. How do you define who your ideal client is? How do you get to know them intimately so you can understand the problems your clients want solved? And what ambitions and aspirations do they have?

MARKETING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED...

Then you can start thinking about how to craft the solution into a message.

So right now, take a few minutes to ponder the Trifecta of Marketing. Who you think is your ideal client? You might not know who it is yet and that's fine. For right now, who do you think it is? Search your soul. Look at your current business or where you’ve always wanted to take your business.

Take the Trifecta of Marketing and start to build it out. Start to take your business and your education about business and marketing to a place that you love so that you can go out and make a difference.
