3.1 GeneralrecommendationsIftheKC4displaysfaultswhichcouldendangerpatientoroperatoritshouldnotbeused(IEC61010).Protectiveclothing,especiallydisposablegloves,mustbeworn.Youmaycomeintocontactwithinfectedplasma(hazardoussubstance).Protectiveclothing,especiallydisposablegloves,thathavebeenincontactwithhazardoussubstances(e.g.infectedplasma)mustbedisposedofimmediately(TechnicalRulesforHazardousSubstances-TechnischeRegelnfrGefahrstoffe(TRGS)).Plasmasamplesandreagentsarespecialwaste.Thespecialwastemustbedisposedofinaccordancewithindustrialinstructions(laboratoryregulations).
3.2 RecommendationsforrepairingtheKC4Theappliancemustnotbeusedfortestswhilstunderrepair.Ifpossible,theappliancemustbedisconnectedfromthepowersupply.AftertheKC4hasbeenrepairedcontrolmeasurementsaretobecarriedouttochecktheapplianceisworkingproperly.Themeasuredvaluesobtainedmustcorrespondtothereferenceranges.

MeasuringmethodTheKC4isanelectro-mechanicalclotrecognitionsystem.Thesystemusesaspecialcuvettethatcontainsaspecialsteelball.Thesampleisplacedinthecuvette.AftertheappropriateincubationperiodthecuvetteisplacedinthemeasuringstationoftheKC4.Themeasuringstationrotatesslowly,makingthecuvetteturnalongitslongitudinalaxis.Sincethecuvetteispositionedatanangleinthemeasuringstation,theballalwaysremainsatthelowestpointinthecuvettethankstogravityandthemagneticfield.Directlyoppositethepositionoftheballisamagneticsensor.Whentheappropriatereagentisadded,atimerisstarted.Whenclottingbegins,fibrinthreadsforminthesample-reagentmixture.Thesefibrinthreadspulltheballfromitspositionasdeterminedbygravity.Thischangeinpositiontriggersanimpulseinthemagneticsensorwhichstopsthetimerelectronically.

6. ApplianceinstallationTheKC4mustbeplacedonalevel,stablesurface.Theenvironmentshouldbedust-freeandatafairlyconstanttemperature(max.roomtemperature30C).Theapplianceshouldnotbeusedinstrongdraughtsorindirectsunlight.Thefanopeningontherearofthecasingmustnotbecovered.

ShouldtheKC4malfunction,itmustbeensuredbeforecarryingoutanyrepairsthattheenvironmentalrequirementsdescribedabovehavebeensatisfied.Theappliancemustbekeptinahorizontalpositionatalltimes.

7. DisassemblyTodisassembletheKC4,removethe3screwsontherearandthe2screwsontheundersideoftheappliance(front).Thetopcovercannowberemoved.Whendoingsomakesurethatthekeypadisfirmlyattachedtothetopcover.Beforecompletingremoval,theconnectingcablemustbecarefullyunpluggedfromtheJ18plugconnectoronthemainboard.
Thekeypadisgluedontothetopcover.Itcanberemovedtobereplaced.Anyremnantsofgluewhichremainmustberemovedbeforegluingonanewkeypad.Remnantsofgluemustnotberemovedwithcleanersthatcontainsolvents!
Thedisplayisfastenedtotheappliancewith4screws.Belowthedisplayistheinverterboard(HIGHVOLTAGE!)forthedisplaylighting.Thisboardcanbetakenoutafterremovingthetwofixingscrews.

Donottouchlivecomponents!DANGER!
Themainboardissecuredinthelowerpartoftheappliancewith5screws.Allconnectorsandsensorconnectionsmustberemovedtotaketheboardout.
Toremovethemeasuringmodulethe4screwsontheundersideoftheapplianceandallmeasuringmoduleconnectorsmustberemoved.Thesensorwiresaretobedisconnectedpriortodisassembly.The4heatingtransistorsarelocatedontheundersideofthemeasuringmodule.Fromhereyoualsohaveaccesstothedrivebelt.

8. CircuitdescriptionTheKC4consistsofthefollowingrelevantcomponents:
PowerpackKeypadAdapterboardDisplayMainboardProcessorMeasuringmoduleHeatingboard
Theapplianceispoweredbyanexternal12-Voltpowerpack.Thispowerpackshouldalwaysbecompletelyreplacedduringservicing,asthepowerpackalsoprovidesprotectionaswellaspoweringtheappliance.Internallythese12Voltsgeneratea5Voltvoltage,anda6.5Voltvoltagefortheprinter.The6.5Voltvoltagefortheprintercutsinifthemeasuringmoduletemperatureexceeds35C.Inaddition,voltagesof12Voltand5Voltaregenerated.Thesevoltagesshouldalwaysbecheckedduringservicing.

Tolightthedisplayanadditionalhighvoltageisgeneratedintheinverter,whichisfittedbeneaththedisplay.Undernocircumstancesshouldthishighvoltagebemeasuredwithanormalmultimeter.

Theprocessorisentirelyresponsibleforcontrollingtheappliancesprocesses.Allotherappliancecomponentsarelinkedtotheprocessordirectlyorviadriverstages.
Becauseofthe8-bitbroadprocessordatabusthedatafromkeypad,pipettesandmeasuringchannelsaremadeavailableviaamultiplexeronpins2-7,30and32oftheprocessor.
Thedisplayisconnecteddirectlytotheprocessor.ThedisplaycontrastcanbeadjustedusingpotR1.

ThesteppingmotorfordrivingthemeasuringstationsiscontrolledbyICU6andICU5.Arectangularsignalwithc.1kHzgeneratedbytheprocessorisappliedtopin14ofICU6.ThissignalisconvertedandappliedtotheICU5outputstages.Thefrequencyandspeedofthemotorareset.
ThetemperatureofthemeasuringmoduleisscannedusingtheNTCTR1resistor.ThisresistorformsavoltagedividerwiththeR5resistor,whosevoltageisscannedatpin39oftheprocessorandconvertedtoan8-bitdatavalueinternally.PotR3isusedtosetthereferencevoltageoftheADtransformerintheprocessor.

TheheatingofthemeasuringstationmoduleiscontrolledbyaPWMsignalfrompin12intheprocessor.Thelowerthetemperature,thebroaderthissignal.ThePWMsignalisintegratedwithICU1,sothatthe4heatingtransistorsaredrivenwithdirectvoltage.
Topreventthemeasuringmoduleoverheatingintheeventofafaultthereisathermostaticswitchwhichinterruptsthepowersupplytotheheatingtransistorsifthetemperatureexceeds60C.Theheatingisswitchedbackononcethemodulehascooleddown.
TheBZ1acousticsensoriscontrolledviapin13oftheprocessorandtransistorQ1.

ThefourhybridmodulesU13-U16areusedtoassessthemeasuringpulsesrecordedbythesensorsJ24-J27.Ifthemovementofthespecialsteelballisdetectedbythebeginningofclotting,oneoftheLEDsD3-D6lightsupbywayofacheck.Thehybridmodulesaresuppliedwiththerequired-12Voltund+12VoltviatheDC/DCtransformersU8andU9.
TheA1rechargeablebatterysuppliestheprocessorwithbackupvoltagewhenswitchedoff.Whenthebatteryisfullychargedtheappliancedataisretainedforc.2weeks.
IMPORTANT! TheboardmustnotbeequippedatthepointoftheR10
resistor.Thebatterywouldbedrainedtooquicklyviathisresistor.
Forappliancesuptono02N60100itshouldalwaysbecheckedduringservicingwhethertheboardisequippedatthispoint.Iftheboardisequipped,theresistorshouldberemoved.

Ifthebatteryisdrainedtooquicklyortheprocessorremovedfromtheappliance,
date,timeandtestparameterswillbelost!

Thispasswordremainsvalidatalltimesandcannotbechangedorblocked.Themasterpasswordcanalsobeusedtocreateanewuserpasswordiftheexistingoneisforgotten.Becausethemasterpasswordisalsousedtoopentheservicemenu,undernocircumstancesshoulditbegiventocustomersorusers.

ThemaximumheatingcurrentissetwiththeSTOPkey.PresstheSTOPkey33timesuntilthebarisatthe10thline(fromsoftwareversionV2.2thisispre-set).Ifamistakeismade,theheatingcurrentvaluesetcanbecorrectedusingtheSTARTandSTOPkeys.ThesettingissavedbypressingENTER.
Thetotalcurrentconsumptionduringtheheat-upphaseshouldbec.4.8A.Attheendoftheheat-upphasethetotalcurrentconsumptionshouldfalltoc.1.2A.
9.3 SettingmoduletemperatureTodothis,acuvetteapprox.one-thirdfilledwithwateristobeplacedintheholeatthebottomrightabovethe4thmeasuringstation(bottomincubationrow).Thewatertemperatureinthecuvetteismeasuredwithathermometer.Thetemperatureshouldbe37.4C(0.5C).
Ifthetemperaturedisplayrisesabove35CaftertheKC4isswitchedon,thedisplayswitchesfromshowingthethermometertothemainmenu.ThemenuischangedwiththeENTERkey.Theclotmeasurementisdisplayed.
Thetemperaturecalculatedbytheprocessorisshowninthetoprightofthedisplay.ThistemperaturedisplaymustnowbecompensatedusingpotR2withthetemperaturereducedby0.3Cbythethermometer.

9.6 MechanicalsettingofthesensorInadditiontoahallsensor,thesensor(X10009)alsocontainsapermanentmagnet,whosemagneticfieldactsonthesteelballinthecuvettewithadefinedforce.Theforceissetbythedistanceofthesensortothemeasuringstation.ThissettingismadebyTrinityBiotechGmbHandmustnotnormallybecorrected.
ThesensorsettingcanbecheckedwiththefieldstrengthmeasuringdeviceFM1microJ03100(230V)orJ03110(110V)fromTrinityBiotechGmbH.
TocheckthemagneticfieldstrengththemeasuringmoduleoftheKC4andthemagneticfielddetectoroftheFM1micromusthaveanoperatingtemperatureofc.37C.TheFM1micromustbezerooffsetimmediatelypriortothetest.ThisisdonebypressingthezerokeyontheFM1micro.Itisimportantwhendoingthisthatthemagneticfielddetectorisnotnearanymagneticfield.Itmustnotthereforebeinthemeasuringstationwhilstperformingthezerooffset.
Themagneticfielddetectorisnowinsertedintothemeasuringstationtobetestedandsecuredwiththecentringring.Themaximumvalueofthedisplaycannowbefoundbycarefullyturningthedetector.Thismaximumvalueshouldbe822scaledivisions.

Ifthevalueisnotcorrectorifthesensorhastobereplaced,thesensorlocknuthastoberemoved.Themagneticfieldcanbesetto82scaledivisionsbyrotatingthesensorforwardsandbackwards.Thensecurethesensorwiththelocknut.Thesensorsettingshouldbere-checkedaftereveryzerooffset.
Theelectricalgainmustberesetafteranymechanicalsensoradjustment.9.7 SettingtheelectricalgainFirstthestandardmeasurefromTrinityBiotechGmbH(J10003)isinsertedintothemeasuringstationtothebottomofthemeasuringbeakerandsecuredwiththecentringring.ThevoltagesmeasuredbyJ10-J13atMP3aresetto3Vssbymeansofastorageoscilloscopeanda1:1probewiththepotsituatedontheKC-Senshybrid.ItisimportantherethatthemeasurementismadewiththeDCsetting,soasnottofalsifytheresult.
