As I was geng ready to go to work this morning I was thinking about what must being going through the then President-Elects mind at that very moment. What an awesome task is being laid before him. Millions of people are looking to him to bring about change and an improvement in their lives. This is not a unique phenomenon. Eight years ago, another man took the oath of office with similar expec- taons by the masses. Eight years before that, people of our country were looking for brighter future as they also did eight years be- fore that date. On this day of the transion of power in our government many are full of joy while there is almost an equal number who are unhappy with the man who now holds the office of the presidency. I was quite dismayed to see TV coverage of mobs who were incing vio- lence, throwing rocks at police and loong of businesses. They were protesng the inauguraon of our new president. Instead of uning behind our new president, they are trying to rip our naon apart. The acons of these people are very much like what Luther spoke about in his Large Catechism on the subject of the fourth command- ment, Why do you think the world is now so full of unfaithfulness, disgrace, calamity, and murder? It is because everyone desires to be his own master and free from the emperor, to care nothing for anyone, and to do what pleases him.God desires us to respect our parents and this same respect is meant to be held for our government. We are to obey that government which He has placed in the seat of power. The only me we are to resist it is when we discern that this government is going against Gods will. Brothers and sisters in Christ, let us unite in prayer. Let us ask that God our Father would grant wisdom to our new president and the leaders in our government, help them to rightly discern good from evil and do what is right in His eyes. Let us be thankful for the free- doms that we enjoy under the rule of our government. Then joyfully sing the words of the Kyrie, Lord have mercy on us. He has prom- ised to hear us. and society often excludes the source of love. Looking to emotions and feelings, and to countless empty ways to find love,

many reach a point in their lives where they feel unloved. But how foolish we are to look for love in all the wrong places… to

quote a song… here are just a few passages that point us to the true source of love… “By this we know love, that he laid

down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” (1 John 3:16, ESV) “Beloved, let us love one anoth-

er, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7, ESV) “In this is love, not that

we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:10, ESV) “So we have

come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God

abides in him.” (1 John 4:16, ESV) So in a month when we often celebrate the idea of “love”, I pray that you are led back to

the source of that love. To our Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who have revealed to us and given to us love, true

Dear Christian Friends,

About an hour ago, a new President of the United States took the oath of office and became the 45th president of our great nation. As

I was getting ready to go to work this morning I was thinking about what must being going through the then President-Elect’s mind at

that very moment. What an awesome task is being laid before him. Millions of people are looking to him to bring about change and an

improvement in their lives. This is not a unique phenomenon. Eight years ago, another man took the oath of office with similar expec-

tations by the masses. Eight years before that, people of our country were looking for brighter future as they also did eight years be-

fore that date.

On this day of the transition of power in our government many are full of joy while there is almost an equal number who are unhappy

with the man who now holds the office of the presidency. I was quite dismayed to see TV coverage of mobs who were inciting vio-

lence, throwing rocks at police and looting of businesses. They were protesting the inauguration of our new president. Instead of

uniting behind our new president, they are trying to rip our nation apart.

The actions of these people are very much like what Luther spoke about in his Large Catechism on the subject of the fourth command-

ment, “Why do you think the world is now so full of unfaithfulness, disgrace, calamity, and murder? It is because everyone desires to

be his own master and free from the emperor, to care nothing for anyone, and to do what pleases him.”

God desires us to respect our parents and this same respect is meant to be held for our government. We are to obey that government

which He has placed in the seat of power. The only time we are to resist it is when we discern that this government is going against

God’s will.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, let us unite in prayer. Let us ask that God our Father would grant wisdom to our new president and the

leaders in our government, help them to rightly discern good from evil and do what is right in His eyes. Let us be thankful for the free-

doms that we enjoy under the rule of our government. Then joyfully sing the words of the Kyrie, Lord have mercy on us. He has prom-

ised to hear us.

Lutheran’s For Life February 12 “So marriage is a profoundly unique thing that is strengthened by years of shared experiences, trials, triumphs, challenges, and victories. The oneness of marriage is why Grandpa can start a sentence and Grandma can finish it. It ’s why when she cries, he tastes the salt. It’s her knowing what’s wrong without him speaking a word. It’s two lives becoming one. It takes time, effort, sweat, and tenacity. But the rewards are like none other on earth.” Rev.
