“Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of Danville and the World”
DECEMBER 2011
I’ve heard it, you’ve heard it: “This year we are going to cut back on Christmas spending. We’re going to simplify and focus on celebrating the real reason for the season – Jesus.” But every year, the advertisers beckon, the children plead, and it seems easier to just do it like we’ve always done it. Have you ever thought about how our overspending, our overeating, our materialism and our busyness steal our peace and joy and rob Jesus of his rightful place at the center of the celebration? I want to invite you to join your sisters and brothers in Christ for this Advent and Christmas season. I will be offering a series of messages based on Mike Slaughter’s book Christmas Is Not Your
Birthday. It all begins on November 27th (the first Sunday Advent) and concludes on December 25th (Christmas Day). So this Christmas, let’s cut through all that hype that leaves us broke and exhausted and instead experience the peace of knowing that God is truly with us. See you on Sunday! God Bless You
Pastor Ron
“Then, opening their
treasure chests,
they offered him gifts of
gold, frankincense, and
myrrh.” Matthew 2:11b
Greetings in the Name of Jesus: Mike Slaughter, in his book, Christmas Is
Not Your Birthday, says that “According to the National retail Federation, as of 2010, adult consumers spent an average of $830 each on holiday food, decorations and presents. In a two parent family, that equates to roughly $1,660. Now add this cost to the average American household credit card balance of $15,788 with an annual percentage rate of 14.67.” Slaughter goes on to say, “Christmas has been hijacked. We have professed allegiance to Jesus but celebrate his birth with an orgy of materialism.”
FLOWER FOR NEW ARRIVAL:
A rose will be placed on the altar whenever a baby is born into our con-gregation! Please contact the church office with the delivery news!
Parents will be notified of the Sunday the flower will be placed and take their flower home following the 10:30 service.

SUSQUEHANNA CONFERENCE RECEIVES GIFT
FROM MISSISSIPPI CONFERENCE
Bishop Middleton has received a letter from Bishop Hope Morgan Ward of the Mississippi Conference. It includes the following message: Grace and peace to you today. Here in Mississippi we continue to keep you and your conference in our thoughts and prayers as you recover from the devastating floods last month. We are placing in the mail today a check for $50,000 in the hope that people in your Episcopal area will be comforted and helped through the recovery. Just as we have been helped by the overflowing generosity of the Susquehanna Conference in the recovery from Hurricane Katrina, we want to be engaged with you in this time of need. Penn-sylvania has been the number one state in vol-unteers in the long recovery here.
A sign-up sheet for Altar Flowers for
2012 is available at the Welcome Center. The flowers
are provided weekly by Bird Florist at a cost of $33. Flowers can be dedicated in memory or honor of a loved one or special occasion. Pur-chasing the flowers helps offset expenses for the church; your dona-tion is also credited as a charitable donation for the year. Contact the church office if you have any questions.
CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
Start thinking about the Christmas Bazaar! Vendors bring your items to sell—this year we are asking for $10.00 per table. The Bazaar will be at Trinity on December 3rd 8:00am—3:00pm. There will be an All you can eat pancake breakfast for $5.00 per person, kids under 4 are free—hosted by Trinity Staff— Also the Youth will have Lunch available start-ing at 11:00—come each and shop !!
2012 Offering Envelopes will be available for pick-up in the Lobby in mid-December. Packets will be arranged alphabetically. If you currently aren’t re-ceiving envelopes and would like to be added to our list, please contact the church office. If you no longer wish to receive envelopes, please let us know as soon as possible. The offering envelopes are expensive to mail; please help us by offering to deliver envelopes to someone who is unable to attend church regularly.
Statements of Giving will be mailed upon request after January 1st. If you would like to receive a statement, please contact Nicole at 275-1255 during office hours or email her at
Trinity Times Page 4
The youth will be taking part in the Bazaar on Dec 3 by selling hot dogs,
barbeque and drinks to raise money toward their youth retreat next sum-
mer. From all of the youth and leaders, we would like to wish our church
family many blessings this holiday season!
TRINITY CHILDCARE Our themes for November: Leaves, All About Me, Harvest, We are Thankful, and Helping Others. Be sure to check out our bulletin boards for some of our festive art work to go with each theme! Family Traditions meal on November 23rd. On November 23rd, we will be having a feast for thanksgiving, how-ever we do it a little differently. We ask families that are interested to bring in a food that is special to their family and tell us why it is special to them. We have a very diverse group of children and it is a fantastic opportunity for the kids to get to experience some different foods and for the teachers to get a glimpse into their children's cul-tures! Dress Up Fridays. On Fridays, the staff of the childcare program have the opportunity to dress up. Each person has to pay a dollar if they choose to participate and the money raised goes to the charity of the month. In October, the money was donated to Domestic Violence because October is Domestic Violence awarness month, November the money will go to orphans because it is National adoption month. We will also be selling Advent Calendars again this year, the cost is $5 per calendar. Each of the windows have a piece of milk chocolate and a bible text that tells part of the Nativity story. Our GIVING TREE is almost ready, you may take an ornament off the tree with a present listed for adults with special needs who would reiceve nothing under the tree if it weren't for us!!!!! Thanks, Jess
Pastor Ron and Pastor Rayvon will be visiting and shar-ing Holy Communion with our Limited Access Members During December and January. Therefore, the Congrega-tional Care Team will not be visiting on the first Sundays Of December and January. We will resume our regular schedule in February.
Christmas Dinner 2012 will be in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, December 11th follow-ing the worship service. Meat and Drinks will be provided. Please bring a covered dish to share!
