As the US prepares for transition, BBB introduces its own version of economic

development system for Afghanistan

NEW YORK, (April, 14, 2012) -- As the US prepares for transition in Afghanistan, and NATO‟s

mission and wider international support programmes are moving into a new phase, Business Beyond

Borders (“BBB” or “Triple B”) unleashes its own version of economic development system known as

(from UN aid to—global trade campaign), aimed to inspire and empower the donor-reliance youth of

Afghanistan to become leading entrepreneurs of tomorrow with the ultimate goal of restoring vibrant

civil society in Afghanistan.

Triple B also doing business as Coaching for Change “CfC” is a quick-fix-pathfinder innovative

business system, ranging from consumer-product, direct-selling and mass-distribution, to

infrastructure building and everything in between, specifically designed for: (1) to increase trade and

import opportunities within the country and beyond; (2) to empower the young men and women to

restore civil society and build a genuine culture of 'doing the right thing‟; and (3) to set standards for

building integrity system to sustain a fight against corruption in Afghanistan.

This economic development system is strategically necessary for three important reasons; First of all,

for many years Iran and Pakistan are taking advantage of Afghanistan's economic needs as a means of

pressure to reach their political goals, while the Afghan government always remains incapable of

decreasing the level of its country‟s dependency on them. Secondly, the counterinsurgency (COIN)

operation has substantially strengthened the commercial and informal militia networks of Afghanistan

which remains a serious threat to legitimate government institutions— and the local population sees

the government as an exclusive oligarchy devoted to its own enrichment. And lastly, the international

community is a central part of both the problem and the solution. For example, Afghan government

revenue was $1.3 billion in 2009, compared with almost $70 billion in foreign military assistance and

development aid in 2011; a significant proportion of this money is misspent, stolen or diverted for

personal or political gain.

Groups like Oxfam indicate that more than forty percent of the aid targeted towards Afghanistan is not

actually spent in country as aid. A World Bank study in November 2011 found that some $15.7 billion

worth of aid went to Afghanistan in 2010/2011, and $13.8 billion was spent outside the Afghan

national budget.

Historically, we seem to have overlooked the aptitude of young people of Afghanistan. Afghan

youth deserves serious consideration for greater responsibilities. They are resourceful, resilient,

creative, opportunity-seeking and entrepreneurial people. They are key agents for social change,

economic development and technological innovation— and Afghan youth are not only capable of

restoring vibrant civil society, but also they can form the basis for a nation of self-reliance and forward-

looking entrepreneurs.

Keep in mind; more and more development experts have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to

alleviate poverty without first curbing corruption. And a successful strategies to curb corruption will

have to simultaneously seek to reduce an official‟s monopoly power (e.g., by market-oriented reforms),

discretionary power (e.g., by administrative reform) and enhance accountability (e.g., through

watchdog agencies). It is widely accepted that one of the most critical elements of a country‟s anti-

corruption program is the involvement of civil society.

Well, the era of political advantage is over. The time for fueling corruption is coming to an end. Now is

the time for innovative possibilities. Now is when we (all of us together) collaboratively develop and

implement our own ideas, and show the Afghan people and the international community at large that,

we can develop programs that deliver productive results and promote peace, tolerance and

understanding among people.

To move forward, Triple B created an effective step by step system and generated a three point

Synergic Action Plan (SAP), to be utilized as a quick-fix pathfinder in the road ahead as we transition.

It is dynamically designed to assist the country and its allies, to successfully achieve results—and if

executed properly, it will indeed set in motion Afghanistan to easily establish a solid footing for a

healthy political system. Below, is an outline of SAP:

1- A Proactive Approach: To effectively and instantaneously promote stability in

Afghanistan, we ought to passionately maintain a healthy and proactive relationship with the Afghan

government, the insurgents, the outlaws and everyone involving. To better understand this

overwhelming scope of proactive relationship, think of it as if, for example: the American Talibansito

Rush Limbaugh was a motivational speaker in a Feminist Majority conference.

2- A Revolutionizing Approach: There is an urgent need to shift the focus from

assistance to sustainable business development and commerce in Afghanistan. It is imperative to move

from—UN aid—to global trade—and foster a climate which creates jobs, promotes trade, commerce

and entrepreneurship in Afghanistan.

3- An Interdependence Approach: With today‟s easily accessed—global sophisticated

internet system, we can diversify educational opportunity for young men and women “in” Afghanistan

while giving them the business tools they need to become innovative entrepreneurs and self-reliant

leaders.
