When to Risk Assess?A Risk Assessment form is required for ALL club activities including;

Initiations Training sessions Matches Trips Activities organised by “USSU sports

club” i.e. fundraising events, freshers fair, local competition etc..

How to assess risk? Highlight any potential HAZARD; trip, slip, fall, collision Who’s at RISK? Identify the impact of any harm or damage - SEVERITY

-Bruising (Low), Sprains (Medium) or Fatal (High) How likely will the HAZARD cause harm? Should/could the HAZARD be removed? If NO or immoveable, how can you reduce the RISK? Identify the impact of harm after “reduce risk” in place? Is RISK tolerable?

Once CONTROLS have been identified they MUST be implemented, Duty of Care

Risk assessments should be recorded & inform all club members of forms, put in prominent place, i.e. website.

After any accident or incident, you must review your risk assessments & inform USSU.

Weather conditions can change the risk assessment. Review seasonally if affected by weather conditions.

What is Duty of Care? Duty of Care determines responsibility and

accountability – if you organise it, you have a duty of care to attendees

USSU apply their Health & Safety policies on clubs USSU does have overall responsibility for all

activities carried out in it’s name, including all SPORTS CLUBS Activities

If USSU procedures are not followed through, Club Captain, President or Trip Organiser could be held liable, civilly, criminally or both

These all help you apply good & best practise to all your club activities

Risk Assessment – visible for all club members

First Aid – club has adequate coverClub equipment inventory – fit for purposeTrip Registration – completed fully &

submitted on timeEnsure all members abide by duty of care

First Aid All clubs must have AT LEAST 1 person in team qualified 1 free days training for an Appointed First Aid person, 3

year qualification IF YOU SIGN UP AND DON’T ATTEND, YOU HAVE

AGREED TO PAY THE £40 FEE FOR THE COURSE!!!! First Aid kits provided, collect & sign out from Activities ALL ACCIDENTS/INCIDENTS to be reported regardless of

where and when they occur Accident/Incident in sports centres – Report to Sports

Centre staff, anywhere else on campus – Security 3333/873333

Accident/Incident off campus, requiring medical assistance, ring 999
