Perception of ValueIntroduction

What is Value? A measurement of the worth of a

product, or service, by a customer based on it’s usefulness and satisfying a customer need

Adding Value - an activity, process or operation that changes the product from one form to another in order to get closer to the Customer specification

It is something that the Customer is willing to buy and pay for

Focus on Value

Focus on value-add activities For each step we need to be sure that it is adding value from the

customer’s perspective Many steps in a production or a service process add no value and

most time in a process is spent with nothing happening at all: People are waiting for work Finished Goods are sitting in a warehouse for a long time Waiting for raw materials or purchased parts Waiting for information / instructions Waiting for machine time

Getting everyone to understand and focus on value is key to good process design.

Perception of ValueIntroduction

What is TPS?

TPS is a systematic methodology for implementing rapid process changes and improvements by elimination of waste

Best accomplished with flexibility in mind, continuous improvement thinking, team-oriented and cross-trained people.

Improvement is always possible and necessary. Continuously improve every aspect of the system through Kaizen. Any existing process can be improved - no ifs, buts or maybes

TPS is "lean“because it uses less of everything compared with a traditional "mass" production system
