Iricent

Ger O’Byrne

A Software Defined Future

Who We Are

• Iricent was founded to help enterprises and service providers take

advantage of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions

Virtualisation (NFV) based technologies

• Our team has decades of experience in both the vendor (Siemens, NSN,

Nokia) and service provider (Eircom) communities and we have developed

and implemented networking solutions on behalf of customers, small and

large, around the world

• We are working with both established global vendors and innovative start-

ups, all of whom share a passion to bring the advances experienced in

compute and storage, such as virtualization and cloud management, to

networking

Management Profile

Ger O’Byrne

Co- Founder

Ger has over 25 years’ experience in telecommunications and IT networking,

working with major industry powerhouses including eircom, Siemens, Nokia

Siemens Networks and Nokia. He started his career in technical roles in network

design, implementation and project management. He moved into sales and then

held a series of senior management roles including General Manager Siemens

Communications and Country Director Nokia Siemens Networks Ireland. Ger has

a Master of Science (Experimental Physics) degree from University College

Dublin, a CDipAF from the ACCA as well as several technical and management

qualifications

Damian MurrayCo- Founder

Damian has almost twenty years’ experience in telecommunications and IT networking, working with major industry players including Siemens and Nokia. He started his career in technical roles in enterprise data networking. He moved on to product management and then held a succession of senior Sales and Business Development roles across enterprise and service provider segments. Damian has a degree in Electronic Engineering from Dublin Institute of Technology and an MBA from University College Dublin

What We Do

• Our key focus is service enablement by taking advantage of the combination of

– Cloud Technology and its widespread adoption

– Software defined networking and virtualisation as it applies to networks and

– Proliferation of high capacity, low latency bandwidth

• Our goal is to leverage the benefits of these new open platforms and technologies to

drive further innovation in the form of new business applications and services

– Service provider gains additional revenue streams and protects against competition/churn

– SP combats the impact of over the top by delivering tightly integrated packages of services to

customers

– Business user (typically the SME) can now take advantage of complex IT delivered as a service

with limited capital or resource commitment

• We aim to achieve this through a unique combination of carefully selected partner

platforms and a strong portfolio of related own or “off the shelf” applications and

services

Challenges

• Market knowledge and technology partners but…………..

• Needed help with product definition and development – esp.

in terms of SW

• Obviously coming from large high tech MNC company

backgrounds knew how new products developed but now on

our own as start-up

• Needed to add own “special sauce” to the mix

• In particular as a start-up needed help with evaluating

product ideas, product development and getting funding

When Iricent met TSSG

• Spoke to a number of academic institutions

• TSSG by far most

– Knowledgeable about SDN / NFV

– Experienced in related technology areas

• TSSG very forthcoming with advice – technical and

other – great whiteboard sessions

• TSSG very helpful in supporting funding applications

Iricent and TSSG – The story so far

• Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher No. 1

• Technology and market overview

• Informed and confirmed our focus area

• Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher No. 2

• PoC

• Informed and confirmed our technology choices

• Contracted Development Work

• MVP

• Part funded by Local Enterprise Office
