About the Course:
The ability to walk is one of the most important goals in
stroke rehabilitation. Treadmill training and Circuit Class
Therapy (CCT) are both simple yet effective methods to
improve walking ability of stroke patients. Treadmill training
has been shown to be able to restore patients’ functional
mobility more effectively than conventional rehabilitation
care. CCT has been proven to be able to increase intensity
of rehabilitation therapy patients receive in hospitals or
rehabilitation facilities. Furthermore, studies have also
suggested that CCT is a potentially effective method which
saves costs to the health care system by reducing staff-to-
patient ratios.
This workshop aims to equip participants with the
necessary knowledge and practical strategies to carry out
treadmill training and CCT in their work settings.
Physiotherapists working in stroke rehabilitation will benefit
from this workshop. The knowledge and practical skills will
also be applicable for therapists working in other
rehabilitation areas such as neurological or geriatric
rehabilitation.

About the Course:
This workshop will focus on clinically informative
psycholinguistic models and impairment-based therapies.
The fundamental components and principles of these
models will be highlighted so that clinicians can more
precisely define processing breakdowns to identify specific,
targeted interventions that optimize treatment outcomes.
Efficient assessment practices will be outlined, and five
specific therapies will be addressed in terms of their
processing characteristics, treatment parameters, and
some of the practicalities related to devising and
implementing treatment for individual clients. The five
therapies are:
Semantic Therapy
Cued Naming Therapy
Phonological Therapies
Segmentation Therapy
Mapping Therapy

About the Course:
Dementia represents a major public health concern in
Singapore and worldwide. It diminishes a person's ability to
take care of oneself and causes problems with planning
and communication. It also leads to changes in personality
and behaviour posing greater challenges in elderly care.
Being the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease,
dementia is expected to affect 55,000 patients in Singapore
by the year 2020. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to
equip themselves with the knowledge of holistic and optimal
care in dementia.
This one-day workshop aims to impart participants with the
skills and knowledge in dementia related management for
clients ranging from mild cognitive impairment to severe
dementia. This workshop also covers topics integral to the
holistic dementia care and functional management
including occupational engagement, cognitive stimulation,
group therapy planning and environmental modification. At

About the Course:
Evidenced guidelines have advocated assurance,
education and graduated resumption of daily activities as
the more ideal physiotherapy management for acute low
back pain. However, when reasoned well and instituted
timely, other interventions like manual therapy,
neurodynamic mobilisation and specific exercises could
complement well with education and return to daily
activities. This workshop will focus on succinct patient

Kinesio Taping with Myofascial
29 – 30 OCTOBER 2015
About the Course:
Occupational Therapy aims to develop and maintain a
person’s capacity to perform activities and roles essential
to self-care, daily living, leisure and work. When clients
develop pain as a result injuries or diseases, it can
decrease the clients’ occupational performance.
Myofascial pain is defined as chronic pain caused by
multiple trigger points and fascial restriction. Common
symptoms of myofascial pain include referred pain and
limited range of motion. By treating the trigger points and
stretching the affected muscles, patients can better
manage their symptoms, hence optimising their
participation in activities. Modalities such as elastic
tapping can complement contemporary treatment
methods to enhance results.
This workshop covers the foundational knowledge,
techniques and elastic taping methods for myofascial

Falls Assessment, Management and Prevention in
Older Adults in Primary and Community Settings
OCTOBER 2015
About the Course:
Falls in older adults are a major concern in terms of
disability, institutionalisation, mortality and
socioeconomic burden. Common consequences include
moderate to severe injuries, such as lacerations, hip
fractures and head trauma, resulting in an increased risk
of early death. A fall may lead to a fear of falling,
avoidance of daily activities, social isolation, reduced
quality of life and can precipitate a move to nursing home.
This workshop aims to provide participants with up-to-
date knowledge on how to effectively manage falls and
balance impairments in older adults in primary care and
community. There will be practical sessions, interactive
case studies and discussions to apply learned
knowledge and skills, as well as to promote problem-

Occupational Therapy in Parkinson's Disease
Rehabilitation
28 NOVEMBER 2015
About the Course:
With a rapidly ageing population in Singapore, the
number of people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is
expected to rise. PD greatly affects a person’s lifestyle,
including difficulties in performing activities of daily living,
areas of self-care, work and leisure. In the PD
rehabilitation management, occupational therapy plays
an important role in helping clients with PD maintain daily
living skills, and learn new methods/strategies in order to
overcome the limitations caused by PD and to improve
their quality of life.
This one-day workshop will provide participants with an
overview of PD, evidence-based management of PD and
therapeutic strategies in the area of PD rehabilitation. At
the end of this workshop, participants will have a better
understanding of PD, and will be able to provide

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation
NOVEMBER 2015
About the Course:
Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) utilizes
electrical impulses to elicit muscular contraction. The
benefit NMES affords in muscular strengthening and re-
education recommends its use in the rehabilitation of
selected patients with neurological conditions. It is
therefore a common adjunct utilized in neurological
physiotherapy management.
This lecture will educate participants on the mechanism
behind the benefits afforded by NMES in neurological
patient management. Knowledge on the indications and
precautions and guidelines on application will be
discussed.
A practical session will engage participants in the hands-
on application of NMES on each other, allowing practice
of parameter adjustment and electrode placement.

Move The Way We Are Designed To!
The Natural Movement Workshop
NOVEMBER 2015
About the Course:
Humans are not made to live within the modern concrete
jungles that we do right now. Along with a sedentary
lifestyle come multiple avoidable conditions such as
immobility, premature degeneration and a higher
susceptibility to injuries. The modern human has to
break away from this ‘zoo human’ syndrome and be ‘re-
wild’.
This workshop aims to expose participants to various
practical movements skills have been lost due to our
sedentary lifestyle. These movement skills include
crawling balancing, jumping, running and squatting.
Participants will be taught how to assess and select
appropriate dosage of exercise tailored for individuals.
Learning these practical movement skills would increase
understanding of natural movement and increase
treatment repertoire for practitioners. Full participation is
required during this workshop, so get ready to move.
