The government's Santa tracker run by the North American Aerospace Defense Command has been live since Dec. 1, with a digital connection to the North Pole and Santa's Village. The agency will be tracking Santa for the 64th year using sat- ellites and radar. Google has a similar interactive feed up. The technology giant has tracked Santa’s journey around the world since 2004, and has estimated that his trek will last 25 hours this year, starting in Russia at 5 a.m. ET on Christmas Eve. STOCK MARKET RISING Experts see the stock market rising during the final days of 2019 and into early next year an event known as the Santa Claus rally, which is expected to begin Tuesday. Since 1969, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has averaged a gain of 1.3% over the "Santa Claus rally" period (the last five trading sessions of the year and the first two trading days of the new year), according to the Stock Trader's Almanac. For those sav- ing for retirement, the rally typically doesn’t provide hefty gains for the long haul. Investors, however, are poised to see a lift in their stock market portfolios on the back of easing U.S. recession fears, de-escalating trade tensions and strong con- sumer spending. That's a positive sign for the broader market heading into 2020, analysts say. BECOMING A REALITY Several years ago, a $15-an-hour minimum wage was the pipe dream of a national coalition of striking fast-food work- ers. Now, it’s increasingly becoming a reality across the coun- try, with significant gains expected in 2020. The number of cit- ies and counties with at least a $15 pay floor is set to double next year to 32, as Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and South San Francisco, along with about a dozen other California cities, adopt the benchmark, according to a report by the National Employment Law Project provided exclusively to USA TODAY. They’ll join cities such as New York, Seattle and San Francisco that are already members of the $15 club. More broadly, 24 states and 48 cities and counties will raise their minimum wages in 2020 a record 72 jurisdictions, the worker advocacy group’s study says. Most will occur on or about Jan. 1. TRACKING SANTA AROUND THE GLOBE It's time to start tracking Santa's trip around the globe.
