TUHSD Tech Quick Guide: Blackboard Collaborate Ultra – Video Conferencing Tool

There are two ways to add Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to a class.

a. Add a Tool Link in the Class Menu.

Enter a title for the link. Select Blackboard Collaborate Ultra from the Type menu. Click Available to Users if you would like for students to see the link. Click Submit.

b. Add a Tool into a Content Area page.

Select Tools > More Tools > Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.

Once added, click on the Collaborate Ultra link that was just created.

Room Options: Lock Course Room

The default room availability is set to be unlocked. This means participants can enter the room at any time.

To lock the room and only allow created/scheduled sessions to be accessed, select Lock course room.

Create a Session Click on Create Session to begin the scheduling process.

Complete the details and settings for the event. Note: there is an option for Guest access. Select Guest access. Save the event details to enable the guest link. Click Create when finished.

Scheduled Session Access & Join Room

When a session is scheduled, click on the session title. Then click Join session.

Session Room Details Collaborate Ultra has a variety of features: 1) recording; 2) participant feedback; 3) chat, attendees, sharing and settings; 4) participant view.

Breakout Groups Breakout Groups allows moderators to set up separate group sessions for participant collaboration. Upon selecting Breakout Groups, click on the ellipses (…) beside a participant’s name. Select Create a New Group or an existing group to assign the student a breakout group. Once groups are created, click Start.

The moderator can switch among breakout groups to support group participants.

Once in the room, participants will have the ability to share content. The moderator can also share content here for participants in use in their discussions. To end a breakout group, click on the stop icon. All participants will be sent to the Main Room.

Settings To adjust notification and session settings, click on the settings icon.

To stop a recording, click on the menu on the top-left corner of the screen.

Select Stop Recording. To leave a session, click Leave session. Or select Leave session on the main screen.
