• What are footnotes?

– Footnotes are a list of numbered reference information that appears at the bottom of each page• Footnotes always begin on the page to which they refer• However, sometimes they run over onto the following page. In

this case use a continuation separator.

– Each numbered footnote refers to a superscripted number (2) in the body of your paper. • The superscripted number is placed after the cited material

• Quotations– Basic format

• Periods and commas precede closing quotation marks, whether double or single.

• Block quotations– Block quotations are not enclosed in quotation marks and always

start a new line. – Includes one or more note references that form part of the extract,

the corresponding footnotes should be placed beneath the quotation, separated from the last line by an eight-space rule. The reference indexes and the footnotes should follow exactly the form used in the original.
