The man who couldn’t be saved…..
By Kurtis Parr (Year 8)
January. Torrential, torrid rains soaked him and the concrete below.
Furiously, the savage storm attacks. Raging, the forked blue lightning strikes
down. Blustery, turbulent winds howl like a wolf howling at the moon.
Menacing! Tempestuous! Violent!
Standing silently in the concrete yard he stared. “Why did you have to
die?” he yelled. Unyielding and inked his face showed the dishonesty he
had been for many years. His skin tightened from the anger he felt from
trying to save someone he loved; squinting in the daylight his eyes were
glassy from the days spent in darkness. Piercing and stubborn, he didn’t
get to say goodbye. Distended and serious his mouth could not hide his
loyalty to his special nan.
Like 100 gunshots at once, the thunder rumbled. Instantly he remembered
himself as a poor, dirty, unkempt kid at 14, hanging round on street corners,
outside the shops and in abandoned houses with his pocket full of drugs.
Heavy hail bounced off the rooftops. His memories flooded back. His
special, loving nan full of kindness lay dying in the hospital bed, tunes in
every part of her tiny body, the bleeping of the machines trying to save her
life.
Hundreds of lightning bolts stabbed him through the heart, he had tried to
save her, selling drugs, begging, robbing. None of it worked. She had died
alone without anyone beside her holding her hand. He couldn’t save her.
He couldn’t say goodbye.
All seeing, the camera focussed on him, he was now never on his own.
Scanning for drugs, weapons, fighting and any signs of life. He wanted to
get out. Checking the guard made of steel, the lookout tower where they
usually stood with the weapons ready for battle was empty. This was his
only chance.
Damaged by the storm, the curled, jagged wire spiralling like a tortuous
ocean around the edge of the prison yard had been broken…
Crying and hugging the grave, torrential, torrid rains soaked him and his
nan.
This is just one
example of
many pieces of
descriptive
writing. Have a

powerful piece
