WELCOME TO THE TUTOR TEAMThis booklet contains much of the information you’ll need to know as a tutor, in preparation for Study Start 2019.

We hope you are as excited as we are to welcome all the new students to Aalborg University Copenhagen (AAU CPH). You play a key role in the Study Start for several reasons. You are representatives of the university and a support team for the new students, you know what it is like to live, work and study in Copenhagen and what information a new student might need. Being integrated into both the academic and social life during the first year at the university is crucial, and as a part of the welcoming committee for the new students, encouraging this is an important part of your role as a tutor.

Besides providing support to the new students, you will benefit from being a tutor in several ways:

• You will be able to forge new friendships and expand your network across nationalities and study programmes.

• You will develop your organisational and leadership skills by taking part in organising bigger events.

• You will get a signed certificate that can be used on your CV.• You will receive an invitation to the exclusive party for all tutors at

AAU CPH.

EXPECTATIONS TO TUTORSYour role as a tutor is to guide and support the new students during their first days of study, to assist both the Danish and international students, and organise and participate in events at AAU CPH during study start and the first semester. We also expect you to be a representative of your study programme and the university.

EXPECTATIONSWe expect you to:• Participate in the International Welcome Day, Friday the 30th of August 2019 (Only tutors on English speaking study programmes).• Participate in the Study Start Day, Monday the 2nd of September 2019. • Arrange and participate in arranging the events during the Study Start 2019 (e.g. Harbour Day).• Give the new students advice and ”insider’s info” about being a

student at AAU CPH and living in Copenhagen.• Give the students contact information for guidance if needed.

HOW TO ACT• Meet the new students with open and welcoming arms.• Treat everybody equally. Be aware of cultural differences among

the students and treat everyone with respect and curiosity.• Make everyone feel that they belong at AAU CPH.• It is not expected that you will be able to answer to all questions,

but it is important that you are service minded e.g. by being able to point out who to contact.

DIVISION OF RESPONSIBILITIESThis section will provide an overview of what the individual study programmes, Shared Services CPH and the Tutor Team do regarding the Study Start.

THROUGHOUT STUDY START SHARED SERVICES CPH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR: • The official program for both Study Start Day and International

Welcome Day.• Assist the tutors in helping and guiding both Danish and

international students at AAU CPH.• The Master Tutor Team.

THROUGHOUT STUDY START THE STUDY PROGRAMME DEPARTMENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR: • Informing students about the academic content of the study

programme.• Programme specific events.• Answering questions regarding the department’s study

programmes.• The introduction of the study programme from 9.30 - 14.00 on the

Study Start Day.

THROUGHOUT STUDY START THE TUTOR TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR: • Planning education events for other tutors and a tutor party.• Organising and executing events for new students.

HELP TO ALL NEW STUDENTS All new students receive a guide with useful information about studying at AAU CPH. The Danish students will receive one in Danish (Håndbog for nye studerende) and the international students will receive one in English (Guide for new students) as well as a Practical Information Guide with additional information. This will have general information and not study specific information. We encourage you to ask the new students to use this guide for answers on general questions.

CAMPUSPlease help new students to navigate around campus and give them information about the different services - such as IT support, canteens, AAU Library, Student Guidance, Facility Support Service (where they can activate their student card) etc. Maps, apps and practical info can be found at the AAU CPH intranet: www.cph.aau.dk/campusintra-studerende/.

SOCIAL LIFEMost information about social life at AAU CPH can be found on Facebook in the group Social Life AAU CPH (kortlink.dk/qrbt). AAU CPH also have an official Facebook page: Aalborg Universitet København - AAU CPH (kortlink.dk/thp5).

HELP FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSKeep in mind that a lot of the new students are international students who have just moved to Denmark, which means they may have a lot of questions regarding study start, the programme and about living in Denmark. We do not expect you to be able to answer them all but please be prepared to help them with whom to contact. When it comes to questions regarding residence permits and other ”official” matters it is important that you don´t answer questions yourself, but instead refer to official channels. Some information, such as contact information on study programmes, can be found online at www.newstudents.aau.dk. WELCOME BAG AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION BOOKLETAll international students will receive a welcome bag with useful information on the International Welcome Day. This welcome bag includes a Practical Information booklet with relevant information for international students. If an international student has not received a welcome bag, they can ask for one at the information desk in building A.
