Testing Philosophy
Title 4
Evolution of Testing
Electromechanical & Static Relay Testing Techniques Steady state test Dynamic on/off test
For EMS technologies, the testing philosophy was based upon proving the integrity of the relays operating characteristic and operating time for each fault type against the manufacturers specification.
This philosophy was verified or updated according to results from acceptance testing / commissioning or in-service failures.
Electromechanical relays operated based on mechanics and magnetism so require much power for testing.
It also require high compliance voltage for testing due to resistance of coil

Title 5
Evolution of Testing
Numerical Relays and PMU testing Dynamic testing Transient testing End to end testing Wide Area Measurements
Numerical relays are multifunctional. when testing a microprocessor relay element with conventional technique, different elements inside the relay often overlapped and we do not get expected results.
Numerical relays and PMU are microprocessor based devices so require very less power compare to Electromechanical relay for testing.
Title 6
Desired Testing instrument Requirements Relay test kit which can test old generation relays to modern microprocessor
based relays Electromechanical relays Electrostatic relays Numerical relays PMUs Energy meters and transducers
Flexible Configurations 4 voltages + 4 currents minimum 6 currents for differential schemes
Enough Power to Test the Scheme High Power is required across all test currents
Can only be achieved by switchable ranges Reliable & Guaranteed Output Waveforms Designed for Field Operation Technical Support

Technical offerings
Voltage Generator 6 voltage sources User can select any nos of voltage out of 6 voltages Multiple ranges 75/150/300 V automatically selected by software Can be used for end to end testing of Main I & Main II protection Can be converted to low level current signals for testing high
burden electromechanical relays Convertible voltage sources can offer compliance voltage as high
as 300V. These are suitable for testing old generation electro-mechanical over current and earth fault protection relays most efficiently and authentically.
Selective current resolution up to 100uA in convertible sources.
Title 8
Current Generator
6 current sources Multiple Current range 8.75/17.5/35A Constant compliance voltage for a selected current range. Enhanced rating having highest current capability in one
instrument. All sources can be parallel for higher output

Doble Benefits
Single box solution for complete scheme testing No need to get confused about selecting suitable model for
your versatile needs. Modular design which saves repairing time and cost. Output of amplifiers are independent of input supply
variations due to back to back amplifier design. Easy to upgrade design. The interfaces like IEC61850,
Meters and transducer or GPS etc. can be activated by just upgrading the firmware. The users can do it independently.
Flexible Software to test your way

Doble Solutions
Burden Capacity & Compliance Voltage: High burden capacity and compliance voltage needed for testing
of electromechanical relay at low plug setting. Doble Power System Simulator has two current generator option
Right bank current generators which is able to test all numerical, static and low impedance electro-mechanical relay.
Left bank V/I generators which is able to supply high compliance voltage and low level current for high impedance electro-mechanical relay testing.
Compliance voltage up to 300 V can be supplied by F6150 which is highest in available instruments.

Competitive Analysis
Voltage Source: 4X 300 V at 85 VA Doble offers 6 X 150 V at 75 VA or 3X300V at 150VA Standard PT Secondary L-N voltage is 63.5V So 150 V is approx 240 % of standard PT voltage which is
sufficient for all relay testing requirements Generally 3 voltage sources used for testing if only 3 voltage sources are used then output power is 150VA of
each source which is highest in available instruments. 6 voltage sources used for simultaneously Main I and Main II
protection scheme in end to end testing

Competitive Analysis
Self Caliberation: The philosophy of calibration needs an external standard
reference so the need of self calibration does not apply. Doble F6150SV provides inbuilt checks that inform if there is any
internal measurement error. Doble provides F6080 as an additional hardware option for
calibration verification. It is recommended to utilize services from the Doble service
center that has calibration facility. Size and Design:
Size is slightly big due to Modular design but it reduces repairing cost and time Back amplifier design
