August, 2012 is behind us, and we’re approaching “the season” again. There were

a few significant events that happened in August, so sit back, put your feet up, and read on.

Vero Beach dodged a bullet when hurricane Issac moved through. We ended up with lots

of rain - enough to send us home early during the open game one day, and, on the west side of town, a tornado touched down doing

significant damage. Other than that, it was just a lot of rain which has made all the golf courses beautiful.

The end of the story is that two of us went home that day without playing. Too bad for

the bridge club, but I made my point. P.S. The stand-by player for that day played with the non-life master C player and finished

first. Happy Bridge Merle Hauser

format. When attending a tournament, whether it be a sectional, regional, or national, this is the scoring procedure the tournament

directors use. It is a fairer method designed to combat the situation where one section or direction is significantly stronger or weaker

than the others. The situation of balancing can be better accomplished if players arrive

earlier to buy their entries, identify the stratification of their partnership, and find their table. Then the director can check the

sections and, if necessary, move players to better balance the sections. The North American Pair qualifying games

we have held during the summer qualifies players to participate in the NAP finals which will be held October 27-28, at the

St. Petersburg Bridge Club and the Bridge Place in Lake Park. You may choose which location in which to play. More information is

available by going to the District 9 ACBL web site. If you’d like to know if you have qualified, a list is available on the bulletin board where

we post the daily results. Congratulations to the following members
