Lectors - Ministers of the Word

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass. If you have good speaking abilities or are experi-enced in drama or poetry, this is an ideal way for you to serve the community. Our parish is in need of a lector for our Sunday Mass at 8:30 a.m.

The registrations for CCD 2014-2015 are now open. All returning students must register again for the new year; furthermore, all pend-ing balances should be paid off at the time of registration.

All new and returning registrants must bring a copy of their cer-tificate of Baptism, plus initial payment (50% of total tuition). For more information, please contact the rectory.

Tuition: One child $200 per year Two Children $300 per year Three Children $400 per year All fees are included in tuition. Children are required to attend two consecutive years in order to received a Sacrament. Children attending for First Holy Communion need to be attend-ing at least 2nd grade in public school, and for Confirmation at least 7th grade.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Matthew 15:21-28

Jesus heals the daughter of the Ca-naanite woman because of her great faith. Background on the Gospel Reading Today we move ahead in our reading of Matthew's Gospel. Last week we read about Jesus walking on

the water and the disciples' confession of faith that Jesus is the Son of God. If we were reading Matthew's entire Gospel, we would have read about Jesus' debate with the Pharisees about Jewish purity laws. Jesus argues that it is not what goes into us that makes us unclean; he is referring to the strict Jew-ish dietary rules. Instead our words and our actions—what comes out of us—make us unclean because they emerge from a heart that is unclean. Knowing about Jesus' debate with the Pharisees helps us to understand today's Gospel. In fact the story height-ens the surprise and shock we feel as we hear Jesus' ex-change with the Canaanite woman. The woman, who is not Jewish, approaches Jesus, requesting that he heal her demon-possessed daughter. At first Jesus ignores her; he says noth-ing. The disciples ask Jesus to send her away, and Jesus agrees, remarking that he was sent to minister to the Jews alone. The woman persists, paying homage to Jesus, and yet Jesus denies her request again. He even insults her, using a Jewish word of derision for Gentiles, “dog.” But the woman cleverly turns Jesus' insult into an affirmation of faith. Only then does Jesus grant her request and heal her daughter. Jesus' unresponsiveness to this woman may strike us as uncharacteristic or shocking. Yet in Matthew's Gospel, Je-sus' ministry is directed primarily to the people of Israel. At only a very few points, such as the one found in today's Gos-pel, do we find Jesus anticipating the later Christian ministry to the rest of the world. Behind Matthew's text we can hear this early Chris-tian community's struggle to understand how God's selection of Israel is consistent with two events: Israel's rejection of Je-sus and the Gentiles' acceptance of Jesus. Just as Jesus was surprised by the faith expressed by the Canaanite woman, so too the first Christians were surprised that the Gentiles would receive the salvation God offered through Christ. In today's second reading from Paul's letter to the Romans, we hear the apostle Paul considering this same concern.

XX Niedziela Zwykła Jezus podążył w stronę Tyru i Sydonu. A oto kobieta kananejska, wyszedłszy z tamtych okolic, wołała: Ulituj się nade mną, Panie, Synu Dawida! Moja córka jest ciężko dręczona przez złego ducha. Lecz On nie odezwał się do niej ani słowem. Na to podeszli Jego uczniowie i prosili Go: Odpraw ją, bo krzyczy za nami! Lecz On odpowiedział: Jestem posłany tylko do owiec, które poginęły z domu Izraela. A ona przyszła, upadła przed Nim i prosiła: Panie, dopomóż mi! On jednak odparł: Niedobrze jest zabrać chleb dzieciom a rzucić psom. A ona odrzekła: Tak, Panie, lecz i szczenięta jedzą z okruszyn, które spadają ze stołów ich panów. Wtedy Jezus jej odpowiedział: O niewiasto wielka jest twoja wiara; niech ci się stanie, jak chcesz! Od tej chwili jej córka została uzdrowiona.

Najświętsza Maryja Panna Królowa 22 sierpnia

Niepokalana Dziewica, zachowana wolną od wszelkiej skazy winy pierworodnej, dopełniwszy biegu życia ziemskiego, z ciałem i duszą wzięta została do chwały niebieskiej i wywyższona przez Pana jako Kró-lowa wszystkiego, aby bardziej upodobniła się do Syna swego, Pana panującego (por. Ap 19,16) oraz zwycięzcy grzechu i śmierci (KK 59). Tytuł "Królowa" podkreśla stan Maryi w czasach ostatecznych jako Tej, która zasiada obok swego Sy-na, Króla chwały. W ten sposób wypełniły się słowa Magnificat: "Oto bowiem odtąd błogosławić mnie bę-dą wszystkie pokolenia, gdyż wielkie rzeczy uczynił mi Wszechmocny". Maryja ma uczestnictwo w chwa-le zmartwychwstałego Chrystusa, gdyż miała udział w Jego dziele zbawczym. Jest Jego Matką, nosiła Go w swoim łonie, urodziła Go, zadbała o Jego wychowa-nie, towarzyszyła Mu nieustannie podczas Jego nau-czania - aż do krzyża, a potem Wieczernika w dniu Pięćdziesiątnicy. Maryja nie jest Królową absolutną, najwyższą i jedy-ną. Jest nad Nią Bóg i tylko On ma najpełniejsze pra-wo do tego tytułu. Jeśli więc Maryję nazywamy Kró-lową, to jedynie ze względu na Jej Syna. Godność Jej Boskiego Macierzyństwa wynosi Ją ponad wszystkie stworzenia, czyni Ją Królową aniołów i wszystkich Świętych, Królową nieba i ziemi. Królewskość Maryi jest więc pośrednia. Tylko Pan Bóg jest władcą naj-wyższym i jedynym. Maryja ma władzę jedynie hono-rową i zleconą, pełni na ziemi rolę "Regentki".
