IN MEMORIAM JAMES FRANCIS SULLIVAN

One of the most illustrious and beloved figures in the recent history of the City of Lowell, James Francis Sullivan, better known as "Jim," leaves behind a remarkable legacy as an athlete, coach, educator, and friend that literally spans generations.

A 1946 graduate of Keith Academy, Jim played shortstop for Keith's 1946 State Championship baseball team, highlighting a stellar career that also included outstanding performances as a football and basketball player.

After graduation Jim attended Notre Dame University on a scholastic and academic scholarship, graduating in 1950. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict before receiving a Masters Degree in Administration and Education from Boston University in 1953.

Embarking on a career in education, Jim taught and coached football at Keith Academy from 1954-1958, leading the Keith squad to an inspirational 9-0 victory over Hall of Fame Coach Ray Riddick's Lowell High School powerhouse team in 1957.

Jim taught at the Butler School from 1958-1965 before being appointed as principal of the Moody Junior High School in 1965, a position he held until his retirement in 1991 . During his tenure at the Moody, Jim was known as a true leader who dedicated his life to providing proper discipline and educational resources to help prepare those children under his direction for a lifetime of success. His positive influence on students and teachers alike cannot be overstated . Upon his retirement, the City of Lowell named a new middle school after him: the James F. Sullivan School of Communications.

In addition to his impact as an educator and coach, Jim made significant contributions to the community as a member of St. Margaret's Church and in a variety of volunteer roles in myriad civic, business and athletic organizations .

A devoted family man, Jim dedicated his life to his wife Louise, his daughters Mauro and Nancy, and his most precious gifts, his grandchildren James and Alison.

For the past 20 years Jim brought expertise, first hand knowledge, common sense, faimess, and dignity to the always difficult and sometimes contentious deliberations of the Selection Sub-Committee of the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

All of us who knew Jim Sullivan miss him deeply. May he rest in peace.

RAYMOND E. RIDDICK CLASS OF 1970

The namesake' of perhaps the single most famous figure in the over 100 year history of Lowell High School Athletics, Raymond E. Riddick, Jr., firmly established himself in the annals of Red and Gray sports as one of the school's all-time outstanding football lineman.

As a sophomore in 196 7 Ray was a letter winner on perhaps the most dominant of his father Hall of Fame Coach Ray Riddick's Raider squads, one that averaged 320 yards rushing en route to an undefeated State Championship

As a junior in 1968 Ray was a tight end/defensive tackle on a team that gained a still standing record 519 yards rushing against arch-rival Lawrence on Thanksgiving Day. Ray also played in three of the other top eight rushing games in LHS history. He displayed his versatility by serving as Lowell's long snapper.

As a senior team Co-Captain in 1969 Ray started at offensive/defensive tackle and long snapper for the Red and Gray. He was named the Team's Most Outstanding Lineman and was chosen to participate in both the Harry Agganis and Lowell Sun Charities post-season All-Star games. Ray was selected as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic at the conclusion of the season.

After graduation Ray attended Yale University where he continued to star on the gridiron. A three-year varsity letter winner, Ray served as the Eli's long snapper for three seasons, a job he did so well that teammate Brian Clarke was able to set a Yale single season record for field goals of 13.

A starter at center for Yale in every game during his junior (1972) and senior (1973) seasons, Ray also saw considerable action at defensive tackle . Ray was named the Eli's Lineman of the Week 7 times during those 18 contests. He was named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic conference (ECAC) Team of the Week for October 27, 1973, and received the Yale game ball for his stellar play against Cornell that year.

Ray was one of the lead blockers for All-American Yale running back Dick Jauron in 1972, a season that saw the Eli's average a school record 309 yards per game rushing. Ray ended his Yale career as the starting center in a 35-0 Ell rout of arch-rival Harvard with the team gaining 412 yards rushing .

At the conclusion of his career Ray was named to both the Boston Herald and Providence Journal All-New England teams.

He proudly joins his dad, the late Raymond E. Riddick, Sr., in the Hall of Fame.

Football team in 1970.

RUSSELL CHATEAUNEUF CLASS OF 1971

A capable and . accomplished 3 sport letterman for Lowell High School, it was as a member of Hall of Fame Coach George Bossi's Wrestling team that Russell Chateauneuf made his most significant impact for the Red and Gray.

As a member of the Lowell High Track team, Russ was an outstanding sprinter who medaled as a member of the Raid ers' 4x220 yard relay team at the Massachusetts State Championships in 1971.

Russell was also a valuable special teams performer on the undefeated Lowell High

It was as a member of the Red and Gray Wrestling team, however, where Russell earned his place in the history of Lowell High School Athletics .

A three year varsity performer for Coach Bossi, Russell stepped into the limelight during his junior season (1969-70) . Compiling an overall individual record of 23-3, Russell won the Northeast Sectional Championship before placing 2nd at the Massachusetts State Championship Tournament. He atoned for that runner-up finish by winning the New England Championship at 141 pounds as the Red and Gray won the New England Team Championship as well.

As a senior Co-Captain in 1970-71, Russell compiled one of the truly outstanding seasons in the long and storied history of Lowell Wrestling . With an overall record of 28-2, Russell won Championships at the Amherst High Holi day Tournament, the MIT Open Holiday Tournament of Champions (open to college as well as high school wrestlers), the Northeast Sectional Tournament, and the Massachusetts State Championships (as Lowell won a team State Co-Championship) at 141 pounds. Only Lowell 's non-participation at the New England Tournament prevented Russell from contending for a 2nd consecutive New Enland Championship .

Among the post-season accolades bestowed on Russell was Honorable Mention All-American honors by the Scholastic Wrestling News.

After graduation Russell attended University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he continued his wrestling exploits under Coach Homer Barr. Russell was a 2 -time New England Intercollegiate Champion (1972 and 197 4). At the Division I NCAA Wrestling Tournament in 197 4 Russell actually led the defending champion in his weight class 5-0 before losing a competitive match.

Russell joins Coach Bossi and many of his former teammates in the Hall of Fame, including another of tonight's inductees, Max Desilets.

MAX DESILETS CLASS OF 1973

Without question one of the most dominant wrestlers in the history of Lowell High School's storied program, Max Desilets joins a long list of Hall of Fame performers under legendary Coach George Bossi. A four year varsity performer, Max blos

somed as a sophomore (1970-71 ), winning Championships at the Lowell Holiday Tournament, the Amherst Invitational Tournament, and the Northeast Sectional Tournament before placing 2nd individually at the Massachusetts State Champi

high school wrestling. After again winning titles at the Lowell Holiday and the Amherst Invitational Tournaments, Max culminated his year by winning Championships at both the Northeast Sectional Tournament and the Massachusetts State Tournament. He finished the season with an overall record of 31-1 , including 25 pins . As a senior (1972-73) Max compiled arguably the most outstanding single season in the history of Lowell High Wrestling. After winning his 3rd consecutive Lowell Holiday, Amherst Invitational and Northeast Sectional Championships, Max won the 126 pound Championship at the Massachusetts State Tournament, registering three pins, the slowest in a mere 33 seconds and a superior decision en route to the crown . He was unanimously voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for his efforts and Lowell again won the team title . At the New England Championships Max again was a dominant force, pinning all three of his opponents to capture the New England Championship as Lowell won the team title;. Max compiled an overall seasonal record of 34-0 with 28 pins .

Max was named a High School All-American by both Scholastic Wrestling News and Amateur Wrestling News after his senior year.

Throughout his high school career Max was also an active off-season wrestler, winning numerous tournaments and honors, including a 3rd place finish in the 1972 District I Olympic Trials.

After graduation Max attended Tabor Academy where he was undefeated in dual meets and won the New England Prep School Championship.

An outstanding student, Max later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.

Max enters the Hall of Fame tonight with his teammate Russell Chateauneuf.

RAMON RIVERA CLASS OF 1985

Renowned as perhaps the most

outstanding player in the long history of the Lowell High School Boys Basketball program, Ramon Rivero was the dominant force of the golden era of Red Raider basketball under Coach Charlie Ryan

during the 1980's. A rare 4-year varsity starter,

Ramon made an immediate impact in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference, earning All-Conference honors as a freshman, an honor he would win in each of his 4 seasons as a member of the

Over the course of his career, Ramon was selected to the Lowell Sun All Star team during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons and was named the Sun's Player-of-the-Year as both a junior (1983-84) and a senior (1984-85).

A 6'5" swingman, equally at home under the basket and playing on the wing, Ramon was twice named Most Valuable Player of the prestigious U-Mass Lowell Christmas Tournament (in both 1984 and 1985) .

Ramon was named to the Boston Globe and Boston Herold All-Scholastic team as both a junior (1983-84) and a senior (1984-85).

En route to that title, Lowell defeated 2-time defending State Champions Don Bosco (a team with 4 eventual Division I college players in its lineup). Lowell's 84-80 double overtime quarterfinal victory in front of over 2000 fans in the Riddick Field House stands as perhaps the greatest high school basketball game ever played in the city.

Ramon's name dominates the LHS Basketball Record Book in a variety of categories. He is Lowell's all-time career leader in point scored (1459), field goals (594), free throws attempted (360), free throws made (271 ), games played (86), offensive rebounds (300), defensive rebounds (396), total rebounds (696), and steals (194). In Memoriam John Julian Beaulieu

Student. Athlete. Warrior. Businessman. Teacher. Coach . Poet. Song writer. Benefactor. Husband. Father. These are just a few of the areas in which John Beaulieu served his family, his community and his country during a lifetime full of service to others . John was a true Renaissance Man in an era when such was a rare commodity.

John was a product of the golden era of Lowell High School Athletics, starring as a member of the LHS football squad in 1-936-37 and Lowell's Massachusetts State Championship basketball team during the 1936-37 season . After graduating in the class of 1937, John eventually attended Syracuse University, where he was a member of both the football and boxing teams.

Answering his country's call, John served in the United States Army during World War II, serving four years in the European Theater as a combat infantryman . He was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. John earned five battle stars for valor during his wartime service. He remained in the U.S. Army Reserve after his active service.

After a period of time in the business world, John became a teacher of military science and physical education at Lowell High School, a position he held for decades.

Despite his rugged exterior and his athletic and military backgrounds, John always demonstrated an artistic flair, composing literally hundreds of songs/ poems, including several musical comedies .

Throughout his life John was a devoted family man raising two children -John, Jr. and Bonnie - with his beloved wife Grace, whom he met at Syracuse.

During his entire life John was one of the most ardent supporters of athletics at Lowell High School, serving the student/athletes of LHS as a dedicated teacher, a tireless administrator, a loyal fan, and a most generous benefactor. His donations of well over one hundred awards to Lowell High athletes in the post-World War II era, including the current Lowell High School Valedictory Athletic Awards presented annually to the Red and Gray's Outstanding Male and Female Senior Athletes, area a shining example of John's dedication and

- love for his alma mater. It would be difficult to find another person who over his lifetime gave so much to Lowell High School and its student/athletes.

One of the charter members of the Lowell High School Hall of Fame, John served as the organization's treasurer and as a member of its Selection Committee for many years. In addition, he graciously funded and donated the impressive medals presented to Hall of Fame inductees annually at the Induction Dinner. John was eventually inducting into the Hall of Fame in 1997.

Sadly, John passed away this summer, ending a life full of service and love forfamily, community, and country. All of us who knew John mourn deeply. May he rest in peace .

Chester "Chet'' J. Szablak, Sr. Class of 1944

Competing during the dark days of World War II when the hearts and minds of most Americans were focused thousands of miles away on far flung battlegrounds across the globe. Chet Szablak, Sr. , was one of the young student athletes whose exploits on the playing fields back home provided a welcome respite from the worries and cares of those on the home front.

A four year member of Coach Spencer Sullivan's Lowell High School football team, Chet blossomed during his Junior (1942) and senior (1943) seasons.

As a junior Chet started at end for Lowell , earning plaudits from the Lowell Sun as one whose "football performance in light of his extremely youthful age amounts to the phenomenal." Chet was described as a "towering and smashing end ."

During Chefs senior year he started at tackle (opposite his brother Stanley) and guard for LHS and was elected team co-captain at the youthful age of 15. His fellow co-captain was Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame member George Ford , the star running back who followed Chefs crushing blocks on a regular basis . It was due in no small part to Chefs efforts as a lineman that Ford was selected as the Boston Globe's 1943 schoolboy star of the year.

The highlight of Chefs senior year occurred in a monumental 13-7 upset over heavily favored arch-rival Lawrence on Thanksgiving , 1943. Despite losing George Ford and other team members to the wartime draft call up of 18- and 19- year olds, Lowell scored its first victory over Lawrence since 1938. Chet was named to Lawrence's all-opponent team following the 1943 season, underscoring Chefs impact in that contest.

The Lowell Sun further praised Chet. "Rangy and strong, his line play has been an inspiration to a team which has not faltered since four of its regulars were lost

A solid all-around athlete , Chet was a rugged , defensive-minded guard for Coach Frank Skaff's LHS basketball squad during his junior and senior years .

Brian Donnelly Class of 1971

Working under the tutelage of two legendary Hall of Fame coaches, Brian Donnelly earned a niche as one of the most outstanding athletes of the 1970's at Lowell High School.

Brian was a standout 2-way starter at tight end and middle linebacker for Coach Ray Riddick's football team during the 1969 and 1970 seasons, combining with classmate and fellow Hall of Farner Kevin Crocker to lead the Red and Gray to an undefeated State

Championship season during the 1970 campaign. Brain was a team tri-captain for the Raiders .

During the winter season Brian turned his attention to the mat as a three-year performer for Coach George Bossi. During his junior year (1969-70) Brian won individual championships at both the Amherst and Lowell Holiday Tournaments. He captured the Northeast Sectional Championship and was runner-up in the State Championship at 188 pounds.

During his senior season (1970-71) Brian, a team co-captain, compiled an overall record of 24-2-2. He recorded runner-up finishes at the Amherst and Lowell Holiday Tournaments and equaled those performances with 2nd place finishes at both the Sectional and State Tournaments. Brian's efforts helped the Raiders win a share of the team State Championship with arch-rival Wayland.

Brian earned the rare distinction of being a team captain of State Championship teams in two different sports at Lowell High School.

After graduation Brian attended Tabor Academy where he again was a two sport standout. He won the football team's Outstanding Lineman Award and was New England Prep Class A Championship runner-up as a member of the wrestling squad.

After Tabor Brian attended Boston University. During the 1972-73 season, competing in the heavyweight class, Brian recorded a record of 10-0 with 8 pins before earning runner-up honors at the New England Wrestling Conference Championship.

In addition to Coaches Riddick and Bossi and fellow football teammates Kevin Crocker and Ray Riddick, Jr., Brian joins wrestling teammates Rick Freitas, Russ Chateauneuf, Jeff Lambert, Max Desilets, and Cliff Whalen in the Hall of Fame.

After playing quarterback during his sophomore and junior seasons, Tipper moved to the fullback position on offense while also starting at linebacker on defense as a senior in 1972. A team tri-

His finest effort came as he rushed for 161 yards and scored both touchdowns in a come from behind 14-6 Raider victory over Waltham.

He also compiled a fine 1.88 ERA In a memorable effort he struck out 15 batters against traditional powerhouse St. John's Prep. His career ERA of 1.35 ranks high among all LHS pitchers.

After graduation Tipper enrolled at the University of Lowell and established himself as one if the University's all-time outstanding all-around athletes as a quarterback on the Chiefs club football team and a pitcher on the baseball team. Tipper was the captain of both squads.

Tipper was the offensive catalyst for the Chiefs football squad, which outscored it opponents 380-56 en route to ari undefeated season, culminating in a 41-6 victory over Duquesne University at Cawley Stadium to win the National Championship in the National Collegiate Football Association in 1977. Tipper, who threw 2 touchdown passes in the title game, earned 2nd team All-Conference honors for a season that saw him throw for 779 yards and 9 TO's and rush for 4 more scores.

As a member of ULowell's baseball team Tipper developed into one of the program's top pitchers, combining with another ex-Lowell standout - Bill Moloney -to form a deadly 1-2 combination on the mound. Tipper pitched the 1st no-hitter in the University's history against Plymouth State in 1976.

Combining natural talent, agility, grace, and athleticism, Brenda Benoit Coady developed into perhaps the most accomplished performer in the history of the Lowell High School gymnastics program. Competing in a sport which usually demanded full time year-round involvement.

Brenda was a two- and sometimes threeseason athlete at Lowell High, making her success as a gymnast competing primarily against full time "club gymnasts" all the more remarkable.

A four-year varsity performer, Brenda ~------l was a regular place winner in dual meets

and competed at the Massachusetts State Individual Championships as a freshman in the uneven bars and vaulting.

During her sophomore season (1979-1980) Brenda was an important part of perhaps Lowell's most successful squad ever, compiling 7 firsts, 27 seconds and 3 thirds in dual meets as the Red and Gray compiled a perfect 10-0 records. Brenda won the balance beam competition at the District Championships, helping Lowell qualify for the State Team Championships for the first time in school history (7th place finish) . Brenda placed among the top 20 scorers at the Team Championships. Brenda was selected as a Lowell Sun All-Star for her efforts. She was selected the team's Most Improved Performer.

As a junior (1979-1980) Brenda led Lowell to a dual meet record of 11-3, regularly winning 3-4 events in the process. In the post season Brenda again excelled, qualifying for the State Individual Championships in all four events - uneven bars, balance beam, vaulting, and floor excercise, and placing 7th in the balance beam. She was again named to the Lowell Sun All-Star team and was Lowell's Most Valuable Player.

As a senior ( 1980-81) Brenda was the dominant gymnast in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference, leading Lowell to a dual meet record of 11-2 and placing 1st in all four events in virtually every meet. The highlight of Brenda's season might have been at the Merrimack Valley Championships where she placed 1st in vaulting and 2nd in the other three events to easily win the coveted All-Around Championship. Competing again at the State Individual Championships, Brenda placed 6th in the balance beam. Coach Denise Walker praised Brenda as " ... very talented and an extremely hard worker." Brenda won Lowell's Outstanding Senior Gymnast Award and was named the Lowell Sun's Gymnast of the Year.

In addition to her stellar career as a gymnast Brenda found the time to be an outstanding long jumper/sprinter for the outdoor track team (1980-81) and even ran a season of cross country (1980).

Ruth Merrill Bailey Class of 1905

Competing in the nascent era of Lowell High School athletics and the early years of the sport of basketball more than one hundred years ago, Ruth Bailey established benchmarks in girls' basketball that will unlikely ever be equaled. While admittedly competing in an era when the rules of girls' basketball were drastically different from today (6 players-3 on defense, 3 on offense; center jump after each basket; running time for significant portions of the game; et al), Ruth still produced statistics which were at that time unequaled in the history of the game.

As a sophomore in 1902-03 Ruth burst on the scene in spectacular fashion . Playing in only 9 of the team's 14 games, she scored more than 200 points (almost half of the team's seasonal output) while leading Lowell to a 14-0 record. Ruth had games of 32 and 38 points before totalling and amazing 66 points in a lopsided 83-5 victory over Melrose. That total established a new world record for points scored by a female in a basketball game.

During her junior year (1903-04) Ruth continued her exploits on the hardwood. She scored 301 of Lowell's seasonal total of 489 points, leading Lowell to a 15-0 record, culmimating in a 11-4 victory over Springfield High to win the Massachusetts State Championship. Along the way Ruth had scoring games of 46 and 54 points against Everett and Dedham respectively.

As a senior (1904-05) Ruth finished her career in a blaze of glory. Again the dominant figure on a dominant team, Ruth scored 225 of Lowell's total of 406 for the season, Leading Lowell to a 2nd consecutive Massachusettts State Championship and then to the New England Championship with a 32-8 romp over Portland, Maine High School. Lowell finished the season with a record of 13-0. On January 2, 2005, in a game against Belmont, Ruth scored an incredible 40 baskets and 2 free throws for a total of 82 points, shattering her own world record. During Ruths tenure as a member of the Lowell High team, the overall team record was an amazing 42-0.

Ruth finished her career with a total of 737 points in only 34 games for a 21 .7 points per game average, easily the best in school history. Ruth's name appears in numerous other categories in the Lowell High School Girls Basketball Record Books, including points in a single game (where she has 4 of the top 5 scoring games), and single game, seasonal , and career field goals-- all despite playing in only 34 career contests.

After graduation Ruth went on to play basketball at Mount Holyoke College. She later taught Physical Education at Lowell Normal School (now UMass Lowell) .

Thomas Paul Machado Class of 1963

One of the most rugged and hard-working players for legendary Hall of Fame Coach Ray Riddick, Tom Machado earned his place among the pantheon of outstanding football stars of the golden era of Lowell High School football during the Riddick years.

Tom was a solid defender and rebounder for the Red and Gray basketball team during the 1961-62 and 1962-63 seasons in the always tough Greater Boston League, but it was on the gridiron where he shone

JriwilllirGlllllolllllillill brightest. A three year varsity performer, Tom was a two-way regular at halfback and

linebacker during the 1961 and 1962 seasons. As a junior in 1961 Tom played an integral part in one of Lowell's best ever

seasons, as the Red and Gray stormed to an 8-0-1 regular season record, cul

minating in a dramatic 6-6 tie with arch-rival Lawrence before a crowd of 18,167 fans at Cawley Stadium on Thanksgiving Day. Lowell then traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, and faced Sunshine State powerhouse Robert E. Lee High School

in a post season contest in the Gator Bowl (a 14-0 loss). Tom was the team's 2nd leading scorer, tallying six touchdowns and 36 points for the season. Tom scored two touchdown in a 28-0 rout of Nashua and was named the Red and Gray game MVP against both Salem and Chelsea.

As a senior in 1962 Tom was elected team Captain. His veteran leadership on a young Red and Gray squad was a key factor in the team's success. Tom led the Raiders with seven touchdowns and two conversions for 44 points. In the season opener against Peabody Tom led Lowell with 86 yards rushing and a touchdown as well as leading a determined Red and Gray defense in a 23-14 victory. Tom culminated his senior season with a stellar performance against intracity rival Keith Academy. Tom led Lowell in rushing, recovered a key fumble and scored both touchdowns as the Red and Gray scored a 13-8 victory. Tom received the Mike

Rynne Memorial Award as the game's outstanding player. Tom was selected as the Outstanding Player on the 1962 squad as well as

being voted as Lowell High's Most Outstanding Athlete . Tom was chosen as team

Co-Captain for the Greater-Lowell squad in its annual summer battle against the Greater-Lawrence All stars in 1963. He also was named the game's Most Valuable

Player.

Gail F. ReynoldsClass of 1983

One of the prime catalysts in the early de-velopment of girls sports at Lowell High School,Gail Reynolds played significant roles in the ex-pansion of the Girls Track program and theestablishment of the Girls Swim programon Kirk Street. Gail's talent, leadership, andenthusiasm were critical facets in the ini-tial successes of the Track and Swim teams.

Having competed in age-group swimming forseveral years, Gail joined the newly establishedLowell High School Swim program in the fallof 1981 as the Red and Gray embarked on ashort exhibition season. During the 1982 sea-son (Lowell's 1st "official" season), Gail servedas a team Co-Captain, helping to actively re-cruit candidates for the squad. In the 1st meetin the program's history, Gail won the 50-

yard and 100-yard freestyle events and came from behind as anchor leg of the 400-yardrelay to clinch a stunning victory over Haverhill. Gail helped lead Lowell to a 6-3 season andalso competed in the North Sectional Championship Meet. She set school records in boththe 50 and 100 freestyle events and was named a Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star.

During Gail's freshman (1979-80) and sophomore (1980-81) seasons she was a solidperformer in the high hurdles and high jump as the Red and Gray Track team received itsinitiation into the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference. At the conclusion of herfreshman year Gail, competing for the Spindle City Track Club, earned a gold medal bywinning the high jump in the New England Regional Arco Jesse Owens Game, therebyqualifying for the National Jesse Owens Games in Los Angeles. Competing at UCLA, Gailplaced 6th in her event and met track legend Jesse Owens.

She was also Lowell's and the MVC's leading individu-al scorer. She was named Lowell Sun Trackwoman-of-the- Year for her efforts. After ap-parent career-ending major kidney surgery in February, Gail made an unexpected anddramatic comeback, joining the Raiders late in the season to compete in the high jump.Despite limited practice Gail culminated her career with a 6th place finish at the EasternMass Class A Championships. Her return from the surgery prompted Coach Jim McGuirkto call it the "most courageous performance" he had ever observed during his coachingtenure. During her track and fields career Gail set 6 LHS records in events ranging from the50-yard hurdles to the 4x400 relay.

After graduation Gail matriculated at Harvard University, where she continued her highlysuccessful athletic/academic career. After injury curtailed her track efforts, Gail joinedHarvard's Water Polo team, receiving her varsity letter as Harvard placed 8th in the Na-tional Championships in 1986.
