WHAT IS IT? Biliteracy is a form of bilingual education in which students are taught literacy and academic content in two languages. Benefits Students develop proficiency in two languages. Students perform as well as or better than their peers in non-biliteracy classrooms. Students will become metalinguistic aware of how both of their languages work. Students also develop multicultural and global competence that prepares them to be successful in today’s global society. THE BRIDGE: On Fridays, teachers bridge the learning from one language to the other.
