Getting StartedThere are certain responsibilities that you assume when you move into the residential communities. Some of these principles and responsibilities are highlighted in this guide. A more detailed description of all UCF policies is published in The Golden Rule Student Handbook (goldenrule.sdes.ucf.edu).

Decorate Your Room: See “Residential Community Standards and Information” for room decoration guidelines.

Explore the Community: Find your mailbox, laundry room, vending machines, common areas, the community office, etc.

Hall/Building Mandatory Meeting: It is mandatory that you attend your opening hall/building or floor meeting. During this opening meeting, you will get to know your Resident Assistant (RA) and other students living on your floor or in your building. You will also be required to attend a mandatory closing meeting. This is also the time when RAs will review important policies and obtain your input so they can plan fun and educational activities throughout the year.

Parking: Get a parking permit for your car or motorcycle at UCF Parking Services (located in Garage B). You must register your vehicle online at parking.ucf.edu prior to picking up your decal.

Policies and Procedures: Read and understand all residence hall and apartment policies and regulations—you are responsible for following them. Be familiar with community office services and procedures and learn the RA on-duty phone numbers.

Responsibility for Reporting: You are responsible for confronting your peers when you recognize unacceptable behavior and reporting such behavior to Residence Life staff and/or UCF Police. Please be reminded that when you report another person for an alleged crime, conduct or policy violation, Housing and Residence Life cannot guarantee your anonymity. All reported allegations will be confronted and the alleged resident has the right to be presented with the full disclosure of information held against him/her.

Room Condition Inventory (RCI): Prior to move-in, the staff will complete an RCI on your room. Please read this document carefully and consult the staff if you have any inquiries or concerns. You are responsible for immediately reporting any damages in your room, apartment or common area. Any discrepancies in your inventory at move-out will be reviewed by the staff to assess charges accordingly.

Roommate(s): Prepare to meet your roommate(s) upon their arrival. Building this relationship is important and takes commitment, as well as compromise. Please contact your RA if you have any concerns.

Residence Life StaffOur Housing and Residence Life staff has been carefully selected and trained to help you transition to living on campus. Please do not hesitate to contact your community office for assistance.

Area Coordinators (AC)Our ACs supervise the student staff to help put our residence life programs into action. ACs have master’s degrees and live right in your community.

Graduate Assistants (GA)GAs are UCF graduate students who live in your community. They help our ACs with community development.

Resident Assistants (RA)RAs live in your community, answering your questions and helping you with day-to-day life, as well as planning fun and educational events. RAs also help enforce policies and university regulations.

Office Assistants (OA)OAs work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to assist with day-to-day community operations.

Residence Hall and Apartment Patrol Staff (RHAPs)RHAPs are students who monitor community safety from midnight to 8 a.m. every day. They respond to concerns and work with RAs to enforce housing and university policies.

United Resident Student Association (URSA) URSA works to promote unity and to provide educational and social events and programs. Together with your community’s area council, URSA provides you opportunities to gain leadership skills and improve your living experience at UCF. Joining is a great way to get involved, gain leadership experience, develop organizational skills, and make lifelong friends and connections. Learn more about URSA at ursa.housing.ucf.edu.

Building Services: Building and custodial services are responsible for cleaning and maintenance services. A cleaning schedule will be posted for your information (schedule is subject to change). You are expected to remove all of your belongings from the sink, counter and shower stall prior to the arrival of staff. All clothing must be picked up off the floor. If your room is left in a condition where it cannot be cleaned, your AC will be notified and you may be held in violation of your housing agreement. Apartment residents are only responsible for cleaning the stove and oven. Residents cannot refuse custodial and maintenance services.

Academic (Apartments): The bathrooms and kitchen floors in the apartments will be cleaned on a weekly basis.

Academic (Residence Halls): Bathrooms will be cleaned and carpets vacuumed on a weekly basis.

Rosen: The bathrooms in the apartments will be cleaned every other week.

Towers: Units in the Towers receive cleaning services approximately five times per year, including summer. Maintenance staff will also inspect units routinely and will repair any damage found.

Bulletin Boards: One way your RA will keep you informed is by posting information on hall, building and community bulletin boards. Only staff may post on these bulletin boards.

Cable TV: All university residential facilities are wired for cable TV. However, residents must supply their own television and cable wires to connect their televisions to the outlet. Your room is provided with a single standard residential cable outlet.

Community Centers and Lounges: Some of these facilities are equipped with cable TV and are available for residents to use. Staff will post proper signage on doors if a restricted program or seminar is taking place in a facility. Our community spaces are specifically designed for use by our staff and our residents. Our community spaces may not be used for outside meetings or personal functions unless approved by the AC or his or her designee.

Data Port: Your room will have a data port. Network cards are required in your computer to use the Ethernet line. You must provide your own Ethernet cord. For information about network card installation and data port activation, please contact the Computer Help Desk at 407-823-5117, or visit the ResNet home page at resnet.ucf.edu.

Exterminator Services: All halls and apartments are serviced for insects on a regular basis. Do not attempt to exterminate them yourself. If you have a problem between treatments, report it to the Work Control Center at fo.ucf.edu.

Game Day: The Department of Housing and Residence Life will enforce policies on UCF Football Game Days. In addition, all official UCF tailgating policies and fan behavior guidelines will be enforced. Visit the Game Day website for information at: ucfgameday.com.

Grills: Some communities provide stationary grills for resident use. You must supply your own charcoal, food and grilling utensils, and also clean the grill and empty out the charcoal once it is cool. Grills, propane, lighter fluid or related materials cannot be stored in your room or apartment.

Rosen: Students wishing to use a grill must speak with a staff member in the Rosen Community Office. After you are finished using the grill, it must be cleaned thoroughly. Failing to clean the grill properly will result in a cleaning charge.

Services

Move-in and Move-out: You are responsible for following all move-in and move-out procedures. All move-out materials will be provided to you prior to closing. Be aware of appropriate dates and times, as extensions will not be given. Please see your community office for questions.

Kitchens (Community): Community kitchens are available in select areas for use by residents of that community with a student ID. Community kitchens are to be used for the preparation of food only. Community kitchens are not to be used for class projects, science experiments, washing hair, etc. Additionally, residents who use community kitchens are required to clean up after themselves before leaving.

Cooking and Safety: Tips to Avoid Smoke Alarms

1. Always turn on the vent above your stove.

2. Never leave cooking food unattended—not even for a second.

3. Remember your stove may heat differently than you are used to, so check what you are cooking frequently.

4. Check the stove before turning it on to make sure it is empty and has been properly cleaned.

If your smoke detector sounds from cooking in ONLY your apartment and there is no fire:

1. Call your RA community duty station.

2. Identify yourself, your location and that a smoke detector is sounding.

3. Turn on vent/fan and open windows, as able, to clear any smoke.

4. Do not prop the apartment door open as smoke may set off the full building alarm.

5. Housing and Residence Life and/or UCF Police/ Facility Operations staff will respond to the scene.

Laundry Facilities: Each community has coin- and UCF card-operated laundry facilities. For UCF card information and refunds (should you experience a problem), please go to the card center in the John T. Washington Center on the main campus. If you need a refund from a loss of coins, please visit your community office.

Lock Outs: Always carry your keys and/or key card, and never give or lend them to anyone. If you are locked out of your room, go to your community office for help. You will need to present a photo ID to get into your room. After your third lock out of the semester, we will charge a $10 fee for every following lock out. If you lose your key or key card, report it immediately to your community office for assistance in ordering a replacement. You are responsible for the cost of replacing a lost or stolen key or key card.

Mail: Mailboxes are conveniently located near each community. Mail is delivered Monday through Friday and is put in your box daily. If you receive a package, a package slip will be placed in your box. The slip will indicate the time and location to pick up your package. When picking up packages, you must present some form of photo ID. If you need to purchase postage stamps, check with your community’s mail centers.

Maintenance Requests: To report a maintenance concern, go to fo.ucf.edu to fill out a work order. You may also call the Work Control Center at 407-823-5223 (online work requests are preferred). Maintenance emergencies that occur after hours or during a weekend should be reported to the RA on duty by calling your community office.

Programs: On occasion, staff may be offering hall or area programming that may deviate from the posted quiet hours. The RA staff will notify the appropriate building or community at least 24 hours prior to the event.

Trash and Recycling Receptacles: You are responsible for emptying your own trash into the dumpsters or trash compactors. Personal trash not properly disposed of could result in fines beginning at $25. Please separate your recyclables from your trash and use appropriate receptacles for recycling.

Community StandardsThe Department of Housing and Residence Life strives to provide an environment that is safe, secure and conducive to academic achievement. The policies listed in this publication serve as standards for students living in our facilities. You are responsible for knowing and observing the regulations set forth in official publications. Failure to abide by the following rules will result in violations of the Housing and Residence Life Agreement. This publication is intended to complement the information contained in the UCF Department of Housing and Residence Life Agreement and The Golden Rule Student Handbook. If at any point you cannot find specifics or are unsure about a policy or procedure, do not hesitate to ask a staff member.

Alcoholic Beverages: The possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by persons under the age of 21 is against the law. If you are found in violation of this policy, you will face housing agreement action, UCF Rules of Conduct action and possible law enforcement action.

Paraphernalia: Possession of alcohol paraphernalia is strictly prohibited in all residential facilities. Paraphernalia is considered items possessed or used in conjunction with consumption, binge drinking, communal drinking, etc. This includes, but is not limited to: communal/large drinking containers (kegs, coolers, beer balls, etc.), beer funnels, beer bongs and beer pong tables/equipment. In addition, displays of empty alcoholic beverage containers and items used for consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited in all residential facilities. Residence Life staff or UCF Police will ask the resident to remove the items once discovered.

Presence: If you are under the age of 21 and present in a residential facility, individual room, suite, apartment or general vicinity where alcohol is being consumed, you may be considered to be consuming alcoholic beverages and you will be subject to housing agreement action (this does not include those who fall under “The Roommate Rule”).

Providing Alcohol to Minors: Providing alcohol to minors is strictly prohibited. If you are found in violation of this policy,

you are violating housing and university policies, UCF Rules of Conduct and Florida state statutes.

Students of Legal Drinking Age: You may responsibly possess and consume alcoholic beverages in your room or common apartment area/living room. You may not consume alcohol in hallways, breezeways or other open community spaces, lounges or lobby areas inside or outside of buildings.

The Roommate Rule: If you are of legal drinking age, the only student(s) under the age of 21 who can be present in your room, suite or common apartment area while alcohol is being consumed is your roommate(s). If underage guests are present in your room, there can be no consumption of alcohol by you anywhere in the room, suite or apartment, even if you are of legal drinking age.

Altercations (Violence): Physical altercations (fights), verbal or written abuse (which includes, but is not limited to, any form of social media i.e. Facebook, Myspace or Twitter), harassment and/or other conduct that endangers the health, safety or well-being of others involving residents, students or other guests, will not be tolerated and may result in immediate agreement termination.

Animals: Only fish in a tank no larger than 10 gallons and guide/service animals are allowed in university facilities. Fish does not include turtles, water lizards, snakes, etc. All other

pets are prohibited for any period of time, and visiting animals must be kept outdoors and leashed. You must take your fish with you or make appropriate arrangements if you will be away. A $25 fine per occurrence and/or housing agreement action may be imposed if an unapproved pet or animal is found.

Other Animals: Do not feed stray animals on campus as they may carry disease and/or conditions injurious to humans. Additionally, leaving pet food or other products around the buildings may attract insects and other pests. Please refrain from these activities.

Appliances and Cooking: Modification of the building wiring or university-provided appliances is strictly prohibited.

Apartments: Each apartment has a full kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator and range oven. Deep fryers are prohibited in apartments. All other appliances must be in good working order. Please remember to use caution when you and your guests are cooking and never leave your cooking unattended. All garbage that is the result of preparing food in the apartments should be placed in a garbage bag and taken to the area dumpsters or trash compactors to avoid odor, attracting insects or contributing to unsanitary conditions.

Residence Halls: For reasons of safety and sanitation, the following items are prohibited: two-sided/open-faced /indoor electric grills (e.g. George Foreman Grill), deep fryers, toaster ovens, toasters, electric skillets, hot plates and/or any appliance with exposed heating coils. A $25 fine per occurrence and/or a review of your housing agreement may be considered if you are found violating this policy. You may have a microwave oven (must be 1,000 watts or less), as well as popcorn poppers, hot pots and coffeepots with an automatic shut-off feature. Refrigerators (with or without freezers) not exceeding 5 cubic feet total capacity are permitted. Residents with larger units will be asked to remove them and will be subject to a

$25 fine per occurrence. If you plan to operate any of the above permitted appliances in your room, they must be in good working order and you must plug them into a power strip with a built-in circuit breaker.

Beds: Raising or altering beds by any method (such as concrete blocks or bed risers) is not allowed in any housing facility. Beds in some residence hall communities can be raised, lowered or bunked by placing a work order request. Constructing lofts is prohibited in UCF’s housing facilities.

Bicycles: Bicycles, bicycle chains and frames are not allowed inside the residential facilities. If you are found with a bicycle in your room, you will be asked to remove it and face a $25 fine per occurrence. Additional charges may be assessed for multiple violations. There are bicycle racks available in most communities. Bicycles should never be locked to light poles, trees, electrical posts or stairway railings. UCF Police will remove bicycles from these inappropriate locations. In addition, UCF Police will periodically clear bike racks. Students with bikes should check them at least once a week for notices and register with UCF Police.

Candles and Incense: Due to the potential fire hazard, the use of or possession of candles, incense or other related items is strictly prohibited anywhere in the residential facilities. This includes unlit, unburned and unused products.

Common Areas (Obstructing): In the interest of safety and consideration for students with disabilities, hallways, lobbies, stairwells, foyer areas and all other common areas of traffic must be kept free of obstructions at all times.

Communicable or Contagious Illnesses: Residents must immediately report any suspected case of communicable or contagious illness to Student Health Services. We also recommend you notify your community office of your illness, as we may be able to offer some assistance to make you more comfortable.

Computer Usage: The university has explicit guidelines regarding proper computer usage. Please refer to The Golden Rule Student Handbook, as well as your contract with Computer Services. Your Internet connection will be restricted or shut off if you are using the server for the following purposes: pornography or obscene material, any unauthorized duplication or distribution of copyrighted material, running a server or peer-to-peer file sharing, etc. UCF computers and networks may not be used for commercial purposes. Downloading of illegal material is strictly prohibited. Students are also not permitted to establish their own wireless networks as it interferes with already established UCF connections. Tampering with another student’s personal computer is a violation of UCF Rules of Conduct.

Social Media (Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.): Housing and Residence Life cautions you on your use of electronic media. Disclosing personal thoughts, pictures or detailed information about yourself can be dangerous. Our staff will not seek out any of this information. However, if our staff is made aware of illegal activity and/or safety/security hazards, they will address this immediately.

Controlled Substances: The illegal possession, use or sale of or any attempt to obtain any illegal drug, drug paraphernalia or controlled substance (including marijuana) is strictly prohibited in the residential facilities. If you choose to possess and/or use illegal controlled substances/paraphernalia, you may be subject to the full extent of law enforcement, student conduct violations, and Housing and Residence Life Agreement violations, including immediate housing agreement termination.

Paraphernalia: Drug paraphernalia is considered items possessed with or used in conjunction with controlled substances, which include but are not limited to the following: hookahs, whippets, water pipes, bongs, pipes, syringes, containers, clips, etc.

Prescription Drugs: Prescription drugs must be in the original pharmacy container from a licensed pharmacist with your legal name listed on the label. Your prescription drugs must be used only as directed by your doctor.

Presence: Students present in a housing unit where controlled substances are used or sold may be considered to be possessing or using controlled substances and may be subject to housing agreement termination.

Decorations: You are encouraged to use your creativity and ingenuity to make your residence hall room or apartment as comfortable as possible. We do ask that you follow the simple guidelines provided here to keep maintenance problems to a minimum and to save you from damaging your room. Failing to follow these policies may result in housing agreement action.

Alterations: You may not change, add to or alter any affixed UCF property. This includes, but is not limited to, changing or altering light fixtures, electrical devices, cabinets, doors, furniture, fixtures, locks, adding shelves, poles, swings, etc.

Ceilings: You are not permitted to hang, mount or affix decorations or any other item from the ceiling.

Curtains and Draperies: These items are prohibited. Curtains in hallways or closets or used as partitions in rooms/apartments are also prohibited. If your bedroom does not have doors on the closet, you may put up a curtain using a tension rod; however, the rod must be 20 inches from the ceiling in order to allow the sprinkler full coverage in the event of a fire. Failing to follow these policies will result in further action.

Décor: Please be considerate of your roommate’s rights as they pertain to your decorations, as some images, words and content may offend him or her. Possession and/or display of stolen property such as construction materials (cones, signs, etc.), street signs and shopping carts is strictly prohibited and will be reported.

Exterior Room/Apt. Doors: Only Housing and Residence Life-approved door decorations and properly affixed message boards will be allowed on your exterior door facing community space. Any additional postings are under the discretion of Housing and Residence Life staff.

Interior Doors: You may decorate the interior of your room and/or apartment doors.

Hall Common Areas: Decorating the residence hall lobby, pod, breezeway or lounge is prohibited without approval from Housing and Residence Life staff.

Paint: You are not permitted to paint the walls, ceilings or any portion of your room, suite or apartment.

Wall Coverings: Due to guidelines set forth by the State Fire Marshal, you are not permitted to completely cover walls and doors with decorations, pictures, posters, etc. Limited decorations are permissible, but cannot cover more than 20 percent of the walls. Large tapestries, excessive posters/paper, etc., are prohibited.

Walls, Doors and Adhesives: The walls and doors will not withstand most tape, glue, nails or tacks without leaving damage. Tack strips have been installed in most rooms. Please use them to hang pictures, posters, etc. Do not use stickers or contact paper (shelf liner) on dressers, closets, light fixtures, doors or drawers. Please use caution in hanging items on room walls. You will be responsible for any damage to your assigned unit upon move-out or before. Do not use double-sided tape, nails in cement block walls, hooks, putty or any other item that causes wall damage.

Windows: All residential windows must be kept uniform at all times. Windows should be kept free of writing, signs, stickers, curtains, drapes, aluminum foil and other personal possessions, window accessories, etc. This is necessary to maintain a neat exterior building appearance. Items found in

windows will need to be immediately removed.

Disorderly Behavior: Those who participate in behaviors or actions that are disruptive to the daily operations of the housing community and/or deprive other residents of the peace and quiet to which they are entitled will be subject to housing agreement and UCF Rules of Conduct action.

Chronic Misbehavior: If a resident or guest is involved in repeated or flagrant violations, establishes an unacceptable pattern of misconduct, or is frequently found to be in noncompliance with The Golden Rule Student Handbook, and/or the Community Living Guide, s/he may be subject to disciplinary action including housing agreement termination.

Failure to Comply: You must comply with all written and verbal requests and instructions from university officials. Failure to comply is a violation of the UCF Rules of Conduct.

Doors: Please do not disassemble doors or door closures, as doing so may damage the door and/or wall and you will be charged for any damages. Avoid propping doors with the deadbolt or any other foreign object as this may cause damages as well as pose possible safety and security concerns. In addition, doors should never be inappropriately obstructed with furniture or other belongings. For safety reasons, staff will un-prop all doors and lock any propped door when residents are not present. This may result in housing agreement action and fines upon the students involved.

Exterior Doors and Windows: Refrain from banging, pounding or knocking on exterior or entrance doors or windows. This will be considered a noise violation and disruptive behavior and it will be confronted by Residence Life staff. We suggest you call the person you are meeting upon your arrival so s/he can let you in or pre-plan an arrival time to avoid the behaviors noted above.

appliances and relocate them to different outlets. Contact the Residence Life duty station in your community and someone will assist you.

Facilities: All housing spaces were designed for residential purposes only. Activities such as, but not limited to, engine maintenance, equipment repair, mechanical research, use of any chemicals, home brewing, horticulture, nonpersonal dispensing of food or beverage, storage or use of compressed gases, storage or use of industrial equipment, or any process other than routine domestic use of facilities requires prior written approval by the appropriate Housing and Residence Life staff. Facility regulations also apply to the outside of the facilities, specifically courtyards, breezeways, stairwells and fountains. Residents are not permitted to put clothing, boats, detergent, people, etc. in the community fountains.

Roof Access: For safety and security reasons, use and access to any community roofs is strictly prohibited.

Unauthorized Access to Closets: For safety and security, use or access of any community closet or storage is strictly prohibited.

Fire Alarms: Any campus resident who activates the fire alarm, regardless of intent, is responsible for any related costs from the fire department response. The standard charge for such an event is $300 (subject to change). This includes, but is not limited to, cooking, smoking, vandalism, pranks, policy violations, etc. Any additional costs beyond this and any applicable policy violations charges will also be assessed to the responsible student(s). Neither students nor staff can interrupt a fire department call to the campus community once the units have been dispatched. Remember: If you have activated an alarm, contact the Residence Life duty station and/or UCF Police. This will help emergency personnel in their response to the situation.

Fire, Health and Safety Inspections: For your safety and the safety of all community residents, room inspections are completed throughout the year to conduct specific fire, health and safety checks. Any violations found during these checks will need to be corrected in a specified time period (as

Electrical Guidelines/Extension Cords: Extension cords are prohibited in Residence Life facilities. Only 120v, UL-approved, electrical power outlet strips (surge protectors) with a built-in manual reset 15-amp circuit breaker are permissible. Maximum allowable length of the cord is 6 feet with a maximum of six outlets at the end of the cord. Only one outlet strip may be used per outlet and you may not plug power strips into one another. In addition, non-circuited multi-socket cords, multi-plug adapters, anything with a frayed or damaged cord and air fresheners/fans with an outlet are strictly prohibited as they can cause a fire. These policies are in accordance with the Florida state fire marshal and state policy.

Circuit Breakers: If you overload the electrical circuits, you will trip your circuit. This is a safety feature to prevent electrical fires. If you trip the circuit, unplug some of your electrical

directed by your area’s AC). Failure to correct violations may result in housing and student conduct sanctions and a review of your housing agreement. Some violations are subject to immediate contract review.

Fire Safety Equipment: Tampering with any part of a fire protection system and/or equipment, including false alarms from pull stations and obstructing/tampering with doors, smoke detectors, stove top extinguishers, sprinkler heads, evacuation signs, pipes, hydrants or exit signs and the illegal use of a fire extinguisher is a violation of the law and is punishable by a mandatory $5,000 fine and/or six months’ incarceration. You will also be held responsible for fire department fines, related cleanup costs and student conduct violations for instances that occur as a result of accidental or intentional acts of endangerment. You may also face immediate housing agreement termination.

Fire Stops (Stove Top Extinguishers): Units with a stove and hood will be supplied with magnetic extinguishing devices mounted in the hood. These devices will activate in the event of a stove top fire. Should you activate these devices, contact Residence Life staff immediately for replacement. You will be responsible for the cost of replacement and any related cleaning charges.

Prohibited Items: Live cut trees (e.g. Christmas tree) are prohibited inside the residential facilities. In addition, flammable or hazardous materials including, but not limited to, bugs, bombs, gases, gasoline, charcoal, solvents, lighter fluid, propane, dive tank, smoke/fog machines and welding tanks are also prohibited (full or empty). Also see Electrical Guidelines/Extension Cords, Candles and Incense, Smoking, Decorations, Appliances and Cooking, Bicycles, Grills, and Lamps and Lighting in this guide for other prohibited items.

Sprinklers: Many of our facilities are equipped with sprinklers. Sprinklers are there to protect you and your belongings and are not to be tampered with or used to hang items on. Tampering or damaging these devices, regardless of intent, will result in student conduct action and immediate housing agreement termination.

Fire Safety, Alarms and Related Information: Fire safety is a top priority in our residential facilities. It is vital that all members of the community understand and follow all rules and regulations.

Building Fire Alarms: If the alarm has sounded in your building, you must immediately evacuate the building and proceed to your evacuation location (at least 300 feet from the building). If you observe a fire, activate the nearest pull station and call 911, and continue to proceed to your building’s evacuation location. Staff will respond to the sounding alarm and will direct you and other residents accordingly. Always follow the direction of the UCF staff and fire department.

Evacuation Procedures: You and your guests are required to participate in all alarmed or announced evacuations, whether it is a drill, an active fire or other threat-related incident. Your failure to evacuate a building when an alarm has sounded or as directed by university staff or the police/fire department is strictly prohibited. Failure to cooperate in any evacuation may result in both housing agreement

Did Your Cooking Set Off the Alarm?If your smoke detector sounds from cooking in your apartment and there is no fire:

1. Call your community office/duty station.

2. Identify yourself and location, and tell someone that a smoke detector is sounding.

3. Turn on vent/fan and open windows.

4. Do not prop the apartment door open as smoke may set off the full building alarm. Any time the building alarm sounds, the fire department is alerted. Staff are unable to call off any emergency response from the fire department.

and student conduct violations. Everyone is required to evacuate for every alarm, unless previously directed by Housing and Residence Life staff that it is only a test. For all alarm tests, residents will be notified in advance.

Elevators: Never attempt to use an elevator to evacuate the building.

Evacuation Locations: Each individual building will have its own evacuation location. Each evacuation location will be at least 300 feet from your building.

Reentry to Building: Do not enter the building again until you are informed that it is safe to enter. This order will be given by Housing and Residence Life staff or UCF Police. Failure to adhere to this may result in student conduct action and possible housing agreement action.

Staff and Police/Fire/Medical: Please stand out of the way of staff and other personnel as they manage the incident.

Furniture: You are responsible for the UCF furniture in your room, suite and/or apartment. All furniture (including bed frame, mattress, desk, dresser, chairs, etc.) must remain in your room. Housing and Residence Life staff will not remove or store university furniture. Placement of any furniture, stage, appliance or entertainment item larger than a 2’X3’ footprint within a dwelling unit or common area requires prior written approval by the appropriate staff member.

Personal Furniture: All furniture belonging to you must be removed upon moving. Furniture left in residential facilities after closing will be subject to removal/disposal at your expense. Additional move-out charges will be assessed for furniture depending on its size.

Public Use Furniture: UCF furniture should not be removed from public areas at any time. Furniture has been provided in common areas, lounges

and pods for the enjoyment of the entire community. DO NOT move this furniture into your room or apartment. You will be charged the full amount to replace any furniture or university property that is damaged or missing. If you are found in possession of UCF property that is not already part of your living unit, this will be considered theft and you will face student conduct, housing agreement and possible police action.

Gambling: UCF doesn’t allow gambling of any kind on campus or at its events, including lawful games of chance for money and wagering on a team or organization—especially when you’re in a position to influence the outcome. Gambling is considered the following: play in an unlawful game of chance for money or for anything of value on UCF premises or at any affair sponsored by a student or student organization; unlawfully sell, barter or dispose of a ticket, order or any interest in a scheme of chance by whatever name on university premises or at any affair sponsored by a student or student organization; wager on a university team or organization in a competition with a direct influence in the success of the competition. You could face conduct action if found in violation of this policy.

Games/Hall Sports: Certain behaviors are not appropriate inside the residential facilities or surrounding vicinity. These behaviors include water balloon and paintball fights, water games and water guns, use of dartboards, Frisbee tossing, floor hockey, bouncing/kicking/throwing balls, in-line skating, roller-skating, skateboarding, etc. Please refrain from these activities in order to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for other residents in the community.

Good Samaritan: If an emergency situation arises, university officials may move your belongings in the following instances: (a) should they witness the potential damage or loss of personal property, or (b) should they witness the potential damage or loss of university property which requires moving your personal belongings, or (c) should they witness the potential threat or harm to a person. In the event of property damage or

loss, UCF maintains its position of no liability for refunds or replacement of property. An emergency situation is defined by any immediately threatening danger to personal property or person such as flooding, sewage backup and/or fire. This list is not comprehensive. The Department of Housing and Residence Life and UCF Facilities reserve the right to interpret this policy using professional judgment, should a situation arise.

Guests: See Visitation/Guests

Hazardous Materials: Explosives, flammable or hazardous substances, or any item or thing of a dangerous nature is strictly prohibited within the residential facilities.

Identification: You are required to carry your UCF ID at all times. Your visitors and guests are also expected to adhere to this policy by being in possession of appropriate identification. All persons will properly identify themselves when requested to do so by an authorized university official, which includes the Residence Life staff and/or the UCF Police. Persons without any proper identification will be considered trespassing and the UCF Police will be notified. You are prohibited from letting another person use your UCF ID or driver’s license. If you allow another person to use your UCF ID card or driver’s license for identification purposes, it may be confiscated. University staff will make the final decision regarding trespassing students and guests.

Invasion of Privacy: Respect the personal privacy and property of others, including roommates and suite mates. This includes searching personal drawers, luggage, closets, computers/emails, or other personal spaces or belongings, and making audio/video recordings without a person’s knowledge.

Keys and Key Cards: In the interest of safety and security, you are prohibited from giving your room and/or hall keys to anyone to use. It is your responsibility to report and pay for the replacement of any lost or stolen key(s).

Lamps and Lighting: Due to the potential fire hazard, halogen and torchiere-style lamps are not permitted in the residential facilities. Bulb wattage in any permitted lamp should not exceed the manufacturer recommendation. Decorative and holiday

lights must be for indoor use only, used only for their intended purpose and no more than two strings should be plugged in together at any time. No string should exceed 25 feet in length.

Liability: The university is not liable for damage to or loss of personal property, failure, or interruption of utilities, or for injury or inconvenience to persons (except to the extent set forth in Florida Statutes, Sec. 768.28, 1979). You are responsible for your property and it is recommended that you obtain personal insurance coverage if not already covered under your parents’ or guardians’ homeowner’s policy. In the event that you find belongings to be missing or stolen, you should always file a report with the UCF Police as well as inform your RA or the community office Residence Life staff.

Musical Instruments: Practicing of any musical instruments (including drums, guitars and any amplified instruments) at a volume heard beyond your room is prohibited in the residential communities. Musical instruments may not be played in common areas such as lounges or pods without permission from a Residence Life staff member.

Noise: All residents and guests are expected to be considerate and keep noise at an acceptable level at all hours of the day. Noise should be kept at a level where it cannot be heard outside of your room. This policy refers to loud stereos/radios, televisions, pounding on walls or floors, loud yelling and screaming, musical instruments, amplifiers, subwoofers, etc. You may want to consider headphones if you desire a higher volume. Noise in the outdoor community or common areas of residential facilities should also be kept at a level that does not disturb the community; this includes noise from skateboards, loud talking and yelling, music, sports playing, video games, etc.

Confronting Noise: Please confront the individual(s) responsible for the noise and politely communicate your concern that the noise is disturbing you. If you are unable to resolve the problem on your own, seek assistance from your community’s Housing and Residence Life staff.

Courtesy Hours: You are expected to be considerate and keep noise at an acceptable level at all hours of the day.

Exterior Doors and Windows: Banging on exterior doors or windows is considered a noise violation.

Quiet Hours: You must respect quiet hours, which are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. every day. This is to include all areas in and around the community, including surrounding outside areas. Special 24-hour quiet hours are implemented during exam periods at the end of each semester. Appropriate notification will be posted. See your RA or visit the community office if you have questions about noise.

Pool (Rosen): Follow posted rules at the pool at all times. You should be considerate of your noise level since the pool is located close to the windows of other residents. Housing and Residence Life staff may ask you to leave the pool area at any time for noise or safety violations. You will be considered trespassing if you are in or around the pool area past posted times. Alcohol is prohibited from the pool area regardless of age.

Room Changes: There are some circumstances when room changes are allowed. You should begin the process by meeting with your RA to discuss any roommate conflicts or situations. For suggestions on living with a roommate, we recommend you first review the section in this publication entitled “Getting Started.” The Residence Life staff also recommends that you complete a Roommate Agreement prior to the start of the year with the person or persons you live with in your unit. Roommate Agreements can be obtained through your RA.

Unauthorized Room Changes: You are not allowed to change rooms without proper authorization from the Area Coordinator or an appropriate Housing and Residence Life professional. Unauthorized room changes may result in housing violations.

Room Damages: It is your responsibility to pay for the replacement or repair of damaged property within your room, suite

or apartment. Charges for the condition of the room or damages will be charged to all residents involved when it is not apparent who is responsible or when one resident does not accept/claim responsibility. Additionally, all damage assessments are subject to a $25 administrative fee.

Room Entry: Authorized UCF personnel, as specified and defined in UCF Department of Housing and Residence Life policies, may enter your room for normal inspection, fire code enforcement, maintenance purposes, verification of resident occupancy, and emergency situations, including well-being checks.

Inspections: All due respect is given to your privacy. Occasionally, circumstances present themselves which necessitate authorized university personnel to enter student rooms for the purpose of repair and maintenance; assessment of damages; health and safety inspections, fire safety inspections; inventory of university property; fire drills; determination of compliance with university policies; and emergencies where imminent danger to life, safety, health or property is reasonably suspected. You will be notified prior to routine inspections and maintenance whenever possible.

Bathroom Lock Outs: In some communities, bathroom lock outs frequently occur and our staff will have to enter connected suites to access the bathroom for such lock outs.

Authorized Search: Your property is not subject to search without your consent, unless a search is conducted by appropriate law enforcement officers with a legal search warrant or in accordance with existing Florida law. Housing and Residence Life staff will never conduct these searches.

Inspections (Towers): Maintenance and custodial staff will perform inspections on a regular basis. During those inspections, staff will address any damages and/or policy violations found. Should repair/replacement of university property be needed, the

maintenance staff will perform the work and the responsible resident(s) will be charged accordingly (if applicable).

Room Use: You are to keep your assigned space clean and orderly. You may not sublet to another person at any time. Charges will be assessed for damages to, unauthorized use of or alterations to any assigned space, equipment or building, and/or for special cleaning necessitated by your negligence.

Operating a Business Out Your Room: You are not allowed to operate an active and on-site business out of your assigned unit or that of another’s in Housing and Residence Life facilities. You may use your Internet resources to conduct business as long as you are abiding by housing, university, state and federal laws while doing so.

Room Vacancy: If a vacancy exists in your room or apartment, you will likely be assigned a new roommate or apartment mate. Any attempt to enter and/or use any part of a vacant room, or to discourage or prevent a new resident from moving into the room or apartment, will result in an immediate review of your housing agreement, as well as possible additional rental fees. It is important that you keep any common or shared area clean and orderly at all times to provide a welcoming environment for your new roommate.

Sexual Misconduct: The university will not tolerate sexual misconduct, abuse, harassment, exploitation, intimidation or coercion. The university is committed to maintaining a community in the residential facilities in which students and staff can live and work in an atmosphere that is free of all forms of sexual misconduct. Those who violate this policy may be subject to the full extent of law enforcement, student conduct action, and Housing and Residence Life charges and may result in immediate housing agreement termination.

Smoking: In compliance with the Florida Clean Air Act of 1992, smoking is not permitted in any residence hall/apartment room, hallway, lounge, laundry room, community center, classroom, breezeway or enclosed stairway of any building managed by Housing and Residence Life at UCF. You

may smoke outside so long as you are at least 15 feet from any building.

Solicitation: You are not allowed to solicit anywhere in the Housing and Residence Life facilities, including on bulletin boards, walls, laundry areas, doors, windows, etc. Non-authorized vendors, magazine solicitors, cosmetic distributors, organizations, or clubs selling cookies, books, leasing apartments, etc., will not be allowed. If you have a problem with a solicitor, get a physical description and location of the solicitor and contact your community office and/or the UCF Police. You should never invite solicitors into the building or your individual room.

Chalk Art: Chalk art is not permitted in Housing and Residence Life communities unless it is related to department programs or announcements.

Flyer and Posting Policy: Our department has a very clear policy about postings and flyers. This policy can be obtained from your community office or it may be found on the Housing and Residence Life website.

Fundraising: Occasionally, Housing and Residence Life and/or the United Resident Student Association (URSA) will conduct fundraisers or “drives” for charitable causes. These activities will always operate out of a main office or community location and we will never solicit from you door to door. Please consult your community office if you have additional questions or concerns.

Storage: There is no storage available in the residential facilities for your belongings outside of what you have in your own room. Anyone requiring additional storage facilities should contact a local private storage company.

Trash Removal/Recycling: You are responsible for the removal of all personal trash. You will need to take your trash to dumpsters or compactors. Do not deposit bags of trash, pizza boxes, etc., in trash cans by building entrances, common areas or lounges. Trash should be disposed of only in the dumpster or compactor. A $25 trash fine will be imposed upon students who leave or dispose of trash in an improper fashion.

Please separate your recyclables from your trash and dispose of them in the proper receptacle. See your RA for more details.

Vandalism: Any willful act of destruction, defacing or tampering with university property or the property of another student is considered vandalism. Vandals will be subject to the student conduct process, which may include restitution and a review of your housing agreement for termination. UCF Police involvement will be sought as needed.

Elevators: In order to keep elevators in safe working condition, the following is prohibited and may result in student conduct action: intentional damage and/or vandalism, kicking or banging the walls or doors of the elevators, misuse or tampering with elevators; smoking in elevators; overloading; use of emergency alarms and emergency stops in nonemergency situations.

Vehicles: Due to safety and security concerns, no unauthorized vehicles are allowed in the immediate vicinity of residential buildings, sidewalks, courtyards or housing greens. This includes cars and trucks (including moving trucks), unauthorized golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, etc. UCF Parking Services and/or UCF Police will be contacted and your vehicle will be towed away at the owner’s expense. This policy does not apply to motorized wheelchairs.

Video Surveillance: Your community may be equipped with a number of closed-circuit TV cameras. These cameras have been installed for the purpose of recording events for later viewing. The cameras are not actively monitored and were not installed for the purpose of stopping an incident, event or crime in progress. You should protect yourself by always being aware of your surroundings and by being on alert for dangerous circumstances. Further, since the cameras and recording equipment are mechanical and require the maintenance of staff, they may not always be working properly due to mechanical or operator problems. Do not rely only upon these cameras in any way for any purpose.

Visitation/Guests: You are responsible for informing your visitors and guests about Housing and Residence Life and university

policies since you could be held accountable for policy violations. You must also escort your guest(s) at all times. Your guest(s) will not be allowed in your room if you aren’t with them. You will be held accountable for the behavior of your guest(s) that takes place inside the room, building or community, whether or not you are present at the time. Housing and Residence Life always reserves the right to ask guests or visitors to leave housing facilities as the need arises.

Cohabitation: Only you are permitted to occupy your assigned space. Your assigned space will not be shared with any other individual(s) not officially assigned to your room. Cohabitation implies the intent to live intimately together in the same assigned living unit and is prohibited in university housing facilities.

Family and Children: Children and other relatives are considered guests and must adhere to the same policies.

Overnight Guests: You will always discuss your intended plans to have overnight guests with the other person or persons with whom you share your room, suite or apartment. If you would like to have a guest stay overnight longer than three consecutive nights, you will need the permission of your roommate(s). You are permitted to have no more than two guests visiting overnight in your room or apartment at the same time. No overnight guest can stay more than seven nights total during an academic year or summer term. If you have concerns about a guest in your living unit, please consult with the Housing and Residence Life staff in your community.

Weather: (Dangerous) From time to time hazardous weather conditions develop in the Central Florida area. Should a weather emergency occur, university officials and our staff will communicate the appropriate procedures to all residents. In a hurricane situation, students who are able to safely travel home will be encouraged to do so. Shelters will be provided for students who are unable to get to another safe location. It is important that you comply with staff

instructions and requests during a dangerous weather situation like a hurricane, tornado, severe lightning storm, etc.

Weapons: Possession or use of firearms, fireworks (including sparklers and smoke bombs), explosives or dangerous/flammable chemicals of any kind are strictly prohibited in any UCF Housing and Residence Life facility or surrounding vicinity. This includes, but is not limited to, firearms and/or ammunition, BB/pellet guns, Nerf® and water guns, airsoft guns, weapons for sport (including paintball guns, bow and arrows, diving knives, hunting weapons, etc.), stun guns, swords, switchblades, knives, slingshots, martial arts or medieval weapons, and flammables (liquids, solvents, gases). In the case of weapons, the possession or use of certain items may place you in violation of state or federal law and cause you to be subject to arrest. This includes toys that look like actual weapons.

Possessing and/or using weapons may result in immediate agreement termination as well as reported student conduct violations and possible criminal charges. Your housing agreement also covers any object that can be used as a weapon that is not included specifically on this list. If you have a question about something you have in your room, please ask your

Residence Life staff. UCF Police will always be contacted to address any threat of intimidation or terror toward a student, staff or facility with the use of a weapon.

Windows and Screens: All bedroom windows are designed to provide a means of emergency exit. Do not block their full opening with furniture or personal possessions. Windows are never meant to be used as an exit or entrance to and from your room, except in case of an emergency. At no time will you climb out or hang out of the windows in the residence facilities. Additionally, do not drop, shoot or throw objects from windows. Do not remove window screens from the windows. If weather conditions cause your screen to fall out, please report it to the Work Control Center website. You are responsible for the replacement costs of screens missing from your window.

Goals of the Student Conduct Review ProcessHousing and Residence Life staff and the Office of Student Conduct will follow a process that has a solid educational foundation in place for you. When needed, our goal is to implement sanctions that correspond to specific infractions and “engage the resources of the student in accepting responsibility for your actions while redirecting behavior.”

Policy Violations and ReportingIf a conduct problem (housing agreement violation or UCF Rules of Conduct violation) should arise within the residential community, the violation will be addressed by one or more Housing and Residence Life representatives (RAs, RHAPs, GAs, ACs, PAs, etc.) or a UCF Police Officer. If the UCF Police initiate contact with the student(s), a Housing and Residence Life representative may also be called in to assist in the situation.

Following the alleged violation, the Housing and Residence Life representative will prepare an incident report for the Area Coordinator that details the nature of the incident, conflict or situation. The UCF Police may also file a police report of their own with the Office of Student Conduct. Your case will then be referred to the Area Coordinator for the area in which the

incident occurred, or to the Office of Student Conduct, depending on the severity of the incident. These determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.

Administrative Action with Area Coor-dinator (Meeting or Informal Hearing)Following the report of a documented incident, you will be notified by the Area Coordinator or his/her designee about scheduling a meeting time to discuss your involvement in the alleged violation. During that meeting or informal hearing, you will be informed of the charges you face. Your rights and responsibilities in the student conduct process will be explained to you and you will have the opportunity to share your perspective.

If you accept responsibility for violating a Housing and Residence Life policy and/or UCF Rules of Conduct found in The Golden Rule Student Handbook, then the Area Coordinator or designee, acting on behalf of the department and the Office of Student Conduct, will recommend educational and punitive sanctions.

If an alleged violation of the UCF Rules of Conduct is not resolved with the Area Coordinator or appropriate designee, it will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct. Depending on the outcome of the case referred to the Office of Student Conduct, a resident’s Housing and Residence

Student Conduct Process/AppealThe intent of the Department of Housing and Residence Life staff in conjunction with the Office of Student Conduct is to ensure fairness and provide you an educational experience in the administration of student conduct within the residential community. The purpose of this approach is to protect the campus community by providing rules and regulations, as well as encourage your personal growth and development as a responsible citizen of the university.

As a member of the UCF community, it is your responsibility to consider the consequences of your behavior and to make sound decisions before acting. Your actions, positively or negatively intended, directly affect the community’s standards of living, including your own.

Life Agreement could be terminated. Other sanctions may be:

Warning: You may receive a written warning for your behavior, which states that if you are involved in other incidents or a repeated violation of the rules and regulations of the residential facilities you can expect additional action.

Restitution: You will be assessed the repair/replacement cost for any damage you cause to university or personal property.

Educational Requirement: You may be required to complete educational requirements in addition to one of the above-mentioned sanctions. The sanctions may include, but are not limited to, community service, alcohol/drug educational programs, reflective papers, required meetings or interviews, or giving presentations. The sanction will be decided upon by the Area Coordinator or designee and will be related to your specific incident. Failure to complete these sanctions will result in a referral to the Office of Student Conduct for a violation of the UCF Rules of Conduct as found in The Golden Rule Student Handbook.

Housing and Residence Life Agreement Interim Removal: If you are involved in a serious incident, your housing agreement may be temporarily suspended/terminated for a period of time during which your level of responsibility will be determined. During this time, you are responsible for making other living arrangements with the understanding that you will not be permitted to enter any residential facilities. Once responsibility is determined, further action will be taken accordingly.

Administrative Move: As stated in the Housing and Residence Life Agreement, Housing and Residence Life has the right to change room assignments, temporarily or permanently, in the interest of orderliness, health and safety, conduct, etc., after written notice to the assignee.

Housing and Residence Life Agreement Termination: If you have your housing agreement terminated, you must vacate your current housing assignment on the date specified by your Area Coordinator.

In addition, you may be issued a trespass warning prohibiting you from entering any UCF or affiliated housing facility. You will not receive any refund and will be required to pay all related fees according to your housing agreement.

Denial of Future Housing and Residence Life Agreements: A recommendation may be made to not offer a future housing agreement to individuals who have a history of offenses that are disruptive to the community environment. This status may be temporary or permanent.

Appeals Process for Housing and Residence Life Agreement Termination

An appeal may be submitted to the Housing Agreement Termination Appeals Board (HATAB). Membership is comprised of university personnel appointed by the director of Housing and Residence Life or designee. The members meet as needed to review appeals.

Requirements for the appeal process:

1. The appeal must be submitted within three (3) business days of receipt of the housing agreement termination letter.

2. The appeal must be submitted in writing using a word processing program with an official student signature. Handwritten appeals will not be accepted.

3. The appeal must be written by the student including current contact information and PID.

4. Students do not attend the board meetings.

5. The decision of the HATAB is final.

6. The letter of appeal should be placed in a sealed envelope and delivered to: Housing Agreement Termination Appeals Board (HATAB) Housing Administration Building Building 73

Following the HATAB review, a final decision letter will be sent to the student notifying him/her of the appeal status.

Student Conduct Disciplinary Sanctions (The Golden Rule Student Handbook)If you accept responsibility for violating a UCF Rule of Conduct found in The Golden Rule Student Handbook, then one or a combination of the following sanctions will be imposed upon you. Recommended sanctions for UCF Rules of Conduct violations will be forwarded to the Director of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for final disposition. This list of sanctions includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Disciplinary Warning: An official warning that your behavior is in violation of the UCF Rules of Conduct, and that if you are subsequently found in violation of this rule; subsequent action may be more severe.

Disciplinary Probation: Disciplinary probation status shall be for a specific length of time extending from a week to a number of semesters. Restrictive conditions may be imposed and vary according to the severity of the offense. Restrictive conditions may include, but may not be limited to, the following: loss of good standing, which may become a matter of record; ineligibility to receive any university award, scholarship, loan, honorary recognition, or initiation into any local or national organizations and denial of the privilege to occupy a position of leadership or responsibility in any university student organization, publication or activity, or ability to represent the university in an official capacity or position.

Under disciplinary probation, you may continue to attend classes and you will be given a chance to show capability and willingness to live in accordance with university rules. However, if you are subsequently found in violation of a rule while on disciplinary probation, the university may suspend or expel you. While on disciplinary probation, a hold will be placed on your academic record for record-keeping purposes. Contact the Office of Student Conduct for a temporary release.

Educational Requirements: You will be required to complete educational requirements in addition to one of the above-mentioned sanctions. The requirements may include, but are not limited to, community service, alcohol/drug educational programs, reflective papers,

required meetings or interviews, or giving presentations. The requirements will be recommended by the Area Coordinator and will be related to the specific incident. Failure to complete these requirements will result in a referral to the Office of Student Conduct for a further violation of the UCF Rules of Conduct found in The Golden Rule Student Handbook.

Mediation: Residents may be referred to UCF Dispute Resolution Services. Dispute Resolution Services offers training and services directed at resolving interpersonal disputes. Facilitation of communication between parties promotes understanding, settlement and reconciliation. UCF’s Dispute Resolution Services enhances the mission of the university by promoting individual responsibility and contributing to the growth and development of all involved.

Appeals Process for Student Conduct Disciplinary SanctionsAll appeals must comply with the guidelines provided in The Golden Rule Student Handbook. Specific questions about appeals may be directed to the Student Government Association judicial advisor or the Office of

Student Conduct. Parental Notification

The University of Central Florida will notify parents or guardians of dependent students, defined in F.S. 228.093 under the age of 21, when you are found responsible for violating university alcohol or other drug policies as found in The Golden Rule Student Handbook. Parents will be notified if:

1. You have been found for the second or more time(s) in violation of the university policy regarding the use, possession, sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages.

2. You have been found for the second or more time(s) in violation of the university policy regarding public intoxication.

3. You have been found in violation of the university policy that prohibits driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcoholic beverages or a narcotic or other controlled substance not expressly permitted by law.

4. You have been found in violation of the university policy regarding belligerent and/or aggressive behavior while under the influence of alcoholic beverages or a narcotic or other controlled substance not expressly permitted by law.

5. You have been found in violation of the university policy regarding the attempt to obtain or the use, possession, sale or distribution of any narcotic or other controlled substance not prescribed by law.

6. You required professional treatment in a medical facility for a condition associated with the use of alcoholic beverages or a narcotic or other controlled substance not expressly permitted by law. These guidelines do not preclude the university’s contacting parents or guardians for other policy violations that may endanger the health and well-being of a student or other individuals in the community.

7. Parents or guardians will be notified in writing by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities and, whenever possible, students will be informed in advance that their parents or guardians will be notified.

NOTE: Disciplinary suspension or expulsion may be implemented in serious cases or when you have multiple violations. These cases will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct. Your housing agreement will be temporarily suspended pending the outcome of your disciplinary hearing.
