Measurement of blood clottingBlood clotting disorders can now bestudied more specifically using a series ofmethodologies made available recently.

MicroprocessorPericom has announced the third modelin its. range of microprocessorcontrolled visual display terminals. The6803 has all the ergonomic features in the6800 series but allows in addition switch-ing between 80 column and 132 columnformat. Sophisticated scan electronicshave been used allowing the display to bedriven to the very edges ofthe 15" tube. Aspecial character set has been developedfor the 132 column format retaining truelower case. The result is a clear, easy toread 132 column format and extra large80 column format. Automatic samplerEG&G Princeton Applied ResearchCorporation has introduced the Model318 automatic sampler, an interfacewhich permits continuous monitoring of"process streams, reaction vessels, andeffluents by polarography or strippingvoltammetry. The Model 318 interfaceswith their Model 174-12 and 374-3Polarographic analyzers, and auto-matically provides a signal to triggerexternal devices such as a recorder or adispenser.The sampler consists of an electronics

module and a flow-through cell. Theelectronics module contains a solenoidthat is controlled by timing circuitrywithin a module. The sample is led to themodule under positive pressure fromgravity, a pump, or pressure. Thesolenoid opens every 0, 15 or 30 minutesafter the preceeding analysis is completedand allows the sample to flow through thecell to completely flush out the oldsample. Process titrationThe Model 1800 DigiChem processtitrator, manufactured by Ionics is a fullautomated general purpose analyserspecifically designed for on-line monitor-ing or process control applications. Thetitrator may be used to determine anyinorganic or organic species and dis-solved metals for which titration methodsare available. Typical applications

include pH control, acid and causticcontrol, scrubber solution monitoring,analysis of chlorine and hypochlorite inbleach and water hardness and alkalinitydeterminations. It measures the volumeof reagent required for the specifiedendpoint on a measured volume ofsample, automatically subtracts atitration blank, calculates the answer inthe specified engineering units anddisplays or transmits the result on theselected output mode. The instrumentcan be further programmed to treatdouble endpoint data arithmetically andobtain the desired results directly withoutmanual calculation.An important design feature is that,

unlike conventional titrators this model iscapable of measuring two endpointsduring each cycle. Automatic injectorMicromeritics Instruments Corporationhas announced the Model 725 AutomaticInjector for use with high performanceliquid chromatography systems. Thisallows automatic, unattended operationfor injection of up to 64 consecutivesamples with negligible carry-overbetween samples.The injector is microprocessor

operated to control the injections persample vial, injection time (1-99 minutes)rinse between samples and automaticshut down upon completion of the lastsample or detection of a malfunction. Microprocessor programmerTenney Engineering Inc., havestandardised several previously optionalperformance features on their DigiTennmicroprocessor programmer. Theprogrammer is a digital display, push-button microprocessor programmer thatautomatically signals environmental testchamber controls to perform time-related temperature, humidity andaltitude programs as a one-parametertest or to perform any two parameterssimultaneously. It replaces cams andpunched tape devices and offers a reliablemethod of programming functionalsequences in a test chamber. Data acquisition systemBurr-Brown have followed the intro-duction of two self-contained hybrid12-bit resolution data acquisition systemswith a third the SDM 858 dataacquisition system which is expresslydesigned for use with transducers withvery low outputs.The SDM 858 provides eight dif-

ferential or sixteen single-ended inputs. Itcontains a high performance instru-mentation amplifier, a 16-way CMOSanalogue multiplexer, a 12-bit digital-to-analogue converter, voltage reference,channel address counter, and a three-state output buffer stage.
