Every year in early November each of CHUN’s 10 neighborhoods (see map on last page) schedules an annual meeting so that people can talk about their neighborhood concerns and elect delegates to the CHUN board.
Visit the CHUN website (www.chundenver.org) to see when your meeting is scheduled and what the featured discussion will be about.
Consider running to be a CHUN delegate for your neighborhood. As a delegate you’ll be asked to keep your finger on the pulse of your neighborhood and act as a touch point for neighborhood issues. It’s a great way to increase your knowledge and get to know some new people.

Got Kids? Join CHUN Parents Group
More and more families moving into the city and it’s changing the nature of Capitol Hill. CHUN has responded to this surge in the number of children who live in our 10 neighborhoods by organizing the CHUN Parents Group. This group’s goals include leveraging CHUN’s influence with the police and the City, improving conditions for families in our area, sharing information, retaining parents in our area, improving Denver Public Schools and promoting the awesome Capitol Hill and Downtown areas.
Our main informational conduit is the CHUN Parents Facebook page. Like it and also visit it often for information and events, such as the holiday event that we’re planning.
Changes at CHUN CHUN has made some changes in the last few months in an effort to become a more dynamic organization that serves you better. Among the changes: CHUN is partnering with Team Player Productions to organize
and execute the annual People’s Fair at Civic Center Park the first weekend in June. The Fair will still benefit CHUN but Team Player Productions will assume the nuts and bolts operations. We’ll still be looking for community volunteers to assist.
Executive Director Roger Armstrong will continue as CHUN’s CEO
with the assistance of Operations Manager Alicia Fresquez and Groundskeeper Randle Loeb. Our Assistant Director, Andrea Furness, will join Team Player Productions where she will continue to direct the People’s Fair.
CHUN is making plans to renovate/redecorate the public areas of
our headquarters at the Tears-McFarlane House at 1290 Williams St. The hope is that our home will become more welcoming and appealing and that we can derive more income from renting both the main floor of the mansion and Hedlund Hall for events. The income allows us to support our work in the community.
We will be making a more concerted effort to expand our
membership base. We will be working harder to raise funds to further our
community work and to help with our renovation projects. Please consider making a donation to CHUN – we appreciate cash, in-kind donations (including labor).
Community support is the lifeblood of any nonprofit organization. CHUN exists to protect, preserve and enhance the quality of life for EVERYONE who lives and works in Greater Capitol Hill. Accelerate Climate Action (ACA) On Saturday, October 22nd, residents from Great-er Capitol Hill, program organizers, and partici-pant observers, will be attending an all-day plan-ning and demonstration "Climate Action Forum" at the CHUN Community Hall. This Forum is for you if you want to take (or are already taking) personal responsibility for helping to address cli-mate change. It demonstrates an approach to 'accelerate' sustainable climate action in the neighborhood.
The forum features professional facilitators to help assure that proposal products of participants can be implemented, and to provide opportunity to share what is already working in each CHUN Neighborhood. [CHUN boundaries are from Broadway to Colorado Boulevard, and from 1st to 22nd Avenue. It divides into 10 statistical sections (CHUN Neighborhoods 1-10), and the boundary includes over 20 Registered Neighborhood Organ-izations (RNOs). The initiative presents a golden collaborative opportunity for CHUN and the relat-ed RNOs.]
The agenda will include interactive conversa-tions about the issue of climate change, associ-ated challenges, and practical, accessible solu-tions; followed by a participatory action plan-ning session.

Accelerate Climate Action is a partnership be-tween CHUN, Wartburg College West, and the Institute of Cultural Affairs to bring this national program to the neighborhoods of Greater Capi-tol Hill. The inspiration for this local initiative came from Nelson Bock of Wartburg West, who, along with wife Bonita, was cited by CHUN as the 2015 recipients of the Tom Knorr Award for Community Service--its highest honor. Starting early this year, a volunteer initiating committee has been meeting weekly at CHUN. Their first project was hosting a booth at this year's Capitol Hill People's Fair. Beyond the pilot forum, neigh-borhood and association follow-up forums, tai-lored for each group's anticipated needs, will be offered during this Winter and Spring, and into 2017. The Vision beyond that? Get feedback, improve the model. Widen the circle, engage new partners. Raise funds. Find an organization-al home with a dedicated staff. Replicate throughout Denver. Expand throughout Colora-do.
Quite ambitious for a group of volunteers! What motivates? Every day there is more information coming out from dependable media sources in-dicating that climate change is impacting our world in ways we couldn't have imagined a dec-ade ago.
An exciting aspect of the initiative is the oppor-tunity for youth leadership development through engagement of high school and college students and emerging leaders in research, training and forum support. Students from local high schools, Wartburg College West, and Metro State University will research and document ex-isting climate action projects in the Capitol Hill Neighborhoods.

Halloween Event!
The annual Denver Police District 6 Halloween Event will
be held on Monday, October 31 from 4-7pm at the Denver
Police District 6 Station located at 1566 Washington St. This
free event has become a tradition for many
neighborhood families. The event is geared towards
children under 12 years of age, accompanied by a responsible
adult. The purpose of the event is for children to have a safe
and fun environment to enjoy Halloween.

Denver Recycles’ Roundup Recycle Right! The Do’s and Don’ts of Recycling Recycling in Denver is easy, but it’s important that residents only place acceptable recyclables in their purple carts. The sorting equipment at Denver’s recycling processor is great at separating bottles from cans, but trash and unacceptable items are sometimes difficult to remove. Help keep Denver’s recycling stream clean and free of non-recyclable items by staying current on Denver’s recycling guidelines. Take a look at the “Do’s and Don’ts” listed below for some helpful clarification on common areas of confusion: Do: empty all food and beverage containers completely before recycling DON’T: Flatten Cartons or bottles DO: Breakdown cardboard boxes into pieces no larger than 2 Ft. by 2 Ft. Minimize shredded paper DO: Remove magnets and plastic wrap from magazines and phone books Only recycle glass bottles and jars Visit the Denver Recycles website at DenverGov.org/Denver Recycles to view Denver’s complete recycling guidelines and list of acceptable and non-acceptable materials.

How do we get the Denver we want? By speaking up! The city is soliciting citizen participation in planning Denver’s next steps. Your chance to
contribute your thoughts is coming up October 4 & 5 at visioning workshops. The process is called “Denveright” and it is a four-pronged quest to get comments on the city’s direction on Land Use, Mobility,
