Principal’s Message
Welcome back to another busy term at Ulmarra PS.
As a Principal of a school it’s always wonderful to
hear great things that our children are doing in the
community. On Monday I received a letter from
Grafton StreetO praising Shaun Marsh on his
orienteering and endurance in completing the 2 hour
course. Fantastic news Shaun!

Kindergarten Enrolments
Kindergarten enrolments are now being taken for 2015.
Please contact the school for more information.
Jacaranda Thursday
Due to changes in the way in which local holidays and
events are gazetted by the state government and after
public consultation conducted through Clarence Valley
Council it has been decided that “Jacaranda Thursday”
will be a half-day public holiday this year.
This means that Ulmarra school will be open until 1:00
pm on the Thursday of the Jacaranda week (Thursday
30th October). However, we have been informed that all
organised activities on the day occur in the first half of
the day and so acknowledge that many students and
their families will still want to participate in those
events. As such, whilst the school will be open for the
morning, it is unlikely that normal lessons and routine
will operate.
Big Banana Excursion
Transition, K, 1 and 2 will be heading to Coffs Harbour
to visit the Big Banana on Tuesday 28th October. The
children will be touring the venue to learn about the
banana industry and then having time in the water park.
Money and permission notes need to be handed into the
office ASAP.
Footsteps
Footsteps Dance Company will be presenting lessons
next week. If you would like your child to be
involved please send in notes and money by Monday
20th October.
Behaviour Management Plan
Last term Mr Reardon, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Dick and
I met to review the Schools Behaviour Management
Plan. I will be presenting this to the P&C next week.
One of the changes to the positive system will be that
awards are only carried for one year. This will mean
that all outstanding awards will need to be presented
this year. Gather all of your sporting, Merit, Student
of the Week and playground awards and bring them
into your teacher.
School Accounts
Please finalise all outstanding accounts as soon as
possible. If you are having difficulty paying the full
amount please see Mrs McSwan to discuss
alternative arrangements.
Transition to School Program
The Transition to School Program has begun for term
4. The Program will run for 9 weeks with the last
day being Tuesday 2nd December. If you would like
your child enrolled please contact the school.
Students Absences
Absence reminders are sent home at the end of each
week. According to DEC regulations any reasons
returned within 7 days will be marked as explained
on the school roll. If the absence note is returned
after 7 days an unexplained will be placed on the
school roll.

River to Sea - Transition to School This week in Transition 7/10/14
This week we were looking at the number 1 and practising writing it and completing activities. We also
looked at the primary colours: Red, Yellow and Blue and by using these to mix our secondary colours:
Purple, Green and Orange. The students created a wonderful variety of paintings.
In the afternoons we are looking at fine motor activities including: playdough, lacing and maths games
including dice. We will continue this throughout the term.

Grass Cakes Students from 1/2M became quite creative in their play time making grass cakes from the lawn clippings and decorating
them with clover. Mrs Campbell placed a challenge forward to see if the students could make 100. The students suc-
cessfully completed this challenge with great teamwork.
