Spreading Joy, Gifting Hope Neighbor-to-Neighbor Christmas Program

On December 22, 2016, Ten (10) members of Greater Mt. Zion set out to bring the Joy of Christmas to children and families at Childs Park YMCA, Neighbor to Neighbor Annual Event. The Hall was decked in read and green, holiday music played softly as Santa’s Elves and Helpers (Zionites) assisted the parents with the selec-tion of toys for the children.

This program is the “brain child” of the late Dr. David Welch over twenty six (26) years ago to share the spirit with underserved families. It has grown and is estimated parents of more than seven hundred (700)

children collected free toys, books, games and bikes. The parents also received Bibles and Publix gift certificates. A HUGH Thank You to the following members for making the Holiday bright for families in our com-munity: Naomi Adams, Ruth Davis, Shirley Morgan, Monica Marshal, Sylvia Pritchett, Orlando and Felicia Pizano, Verbenia Wells and Eva Williams. Thank you again, Anna Herring

18 Quotes that Will Change the Way You Treat Yourself by Angel Chernoff “You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?” — Rumi

It’s not the face, but the expressions you make. It’s not the voice, but what you say. It’s not exactly how you look in that body, but the things you do with it. You are incredible! Give yourself a chance to be your best, by caring for yourself accordingly. Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go in life is achievable, and you are worth the effort. Self-care, includes any intentional actions you take to care for your physical, mental and emotional health. Maintaining a healthy self-care routine is a challenge for many of us, and it can be especially challenging when life gets busy.

And then there are many intricate, mental and emotional aspects of self-care that we often forget about. Below is18 quotes on mental and emotional self-care that may be helpful and inspirational. 1. It’s not what you say to everybody else that determines your life – it’s what you whisper to yourself every day that

has the greatest power. 2. Don’t look for others to give you permission to be yourself. You don’t need anyone’s validation to be “good enough”

or to have a great day. 3. The best time to be extra kind to yourself is when you don’t feel like it. Because that’s when doing so can make the

biggest difference. 4. Be your own experiment. Be your own work of art. Be a work in progress. And be OK with it. 5. Let people around you see the real, imperfect, quirky, weird, beautiful, magical person YOU are. That is enough. 6. You can’t base your ideas of success and happiness on other people’s opinions and expectations. 7. Spend a lot more time with those who make you smile and a lot less time with those who you feel pressured to

constantly impress. (And remember, you can be kind to people without choosing to be around them all the time.) 8. Our greatest defense against stress is the ability to choose one thought over another. Remember this. If you look

for reasons to be angry and upset, you’ll find plenty of them. Look instead for reasons to be positive, and see them everywhere.

9. One of the most peaceful mindsets ever begins the moment you finally find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.

10. There’s no use going back over yesterday and what you did or didn’t do, because you were a different person then. Unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you accept that it’s over, you can’t move forward.

11. Most people make themselves unhappy simply by finding it impossible to accept life just as it is presenting itself right now. Don’t be one of them.

12. You don’t know what the future will bring… So your best strategy for living is to make the best and most positive use of the present.

13. When you discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy – something that truly matters to you – care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life. And if you find that you don’t have enough time for what matters, stop doing things that don’t.

14. The quality of your life in the long run directly depends upon how you set and respect your priorities today. And it’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority.

15. Whenever the grass looks greener on the other side, stop staring, stop comparing, stop complaining, and start watering the grass you’re standing on.

16. Anyone can hide from problems and suffer. Facing up to things, and working through them gradually – that’s what makes you stronger and happier in the end.

17. Don’t break your back. You can’t lift a thousand pounds all at once. Yet you can easily lift one pound a thousand times

18. Sometimes we need to distance ourselves to see things clearly. And sometimes the most important thing we do in a whole day is the short rest we take between two deep breaths.

The Fulfillment of God’s Desire

“For the LORD hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation… here will I dwell; for I have desired it.”

Psalm 132:13-14 Here you have the one great desire of God that moved Him in the work of redemption. His heart longed for man; He desired to dwell with him and in him. To Moses He said, “And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8). And just as Israel had to prepare the dwelling for God, His children are now called to yield themselves to God so that He might dwell in them and they might win others to become His habitation. What an honor! What a high calling, to count my worldly business as entirely secondary and to find my life and my delight in winning souls, in whom God finds His heart’s delight! “Here will I dwell, for I have desired it.” And this is what I can do through intercession. I can pray for those around me, that God would give them His Holy Spirit. God’s great plan is that man himself will build Him a habitation. In answer to the unceasing intercession of His children, God will give His power and blessing. As this great desire of God fills us, we will give ourselves wholly to work for its fulfillment. When David thought of God’s desire to dwell in Israel, he said, “I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids, until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob” (Psalm 132:4). And since it has been revealed to us what the indwelling of God may be, should we not give our lives for the fulfillment of His heart’s desire? Oh, let us begin, as never before, to pray for our children, for the souls around us, and for all the world—not only because we love them, but especially because God longs for them and gives us the honor being the channels through whom His blessings are brought down upon them. Children of God, awaken to the realization that God is seeking to train you as intercessors, through whom the great desire of His loving heart can be satisfied! O God, who has said of human hearts, “Here will I dwell, for I have desired it,” teach us to pray, day and night, that the desire of Your heart may be fulfilled. Amen.

GREATER MT. ZION A.M.E. CHURCH

From June Brown:

Let us not forget the history and heritage of the A.M.E. Church. We are aware that Richard Allen is the founder and First Bishop. He was born on February 14, 1760 to slave parents. He grew up in Delaware, where he developed a Christian faith so strong that his owner allowed him to study religion. He and Absalom Jones, along with others attended St. George Methodist Episcopal Church. He and Jones were kneeling in prayer one Sunday morning in 1787, when they were asked to move to the rear. They walked out and never returned. Allen gathered his own congregation and found Bethel A.M.E. in Philadelphia. The ground on which Bethel was cre-ated is the oldest piece of property in the U.S. that is continually owned by African Americans. The Church has been renovated where Sunday Services are being held every Sunday. It has beautiful stained glass windows, including a balcony in the Sanctuary.

Most recently, a statue of Richard Allen was erected. The month of February is the time in which the AME celebrate it’s Founder’s Day. Black Heritage for the 11th Episcopal District is held annually in the month of February in Jacksonville with the Young Peoples’ Division (YPD).

From the office staff…

Let us remember God is still in control of our lives and this world, even with a new Administration. Let’s stay focused

on Jesus Christ, for He will see us through.

This is the month we celebrate our Heritage and Legacy. Let’s all celebrate and thank God for the richness of it all.

Thank you, The Office Staff
