PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
OK, so now it’s winter? We just got used to the fall! No matter what, we keep busy all day long here and the
learning never stops. We have the Cardboard Challenge, the Book Fair, the volleyball games, the classroom
projects, and the launches of several clubs coming up. Our leadership students are planning many exciting
events and special days as well!
Code Yellow event: we want to thank our parent community for the support and understanding you demon-
strated during the event last week. It was a challenge for all involved but we learned a lot and will continue
to incorporate these ideas into our practice.
Every year, all School District 57 schools practise fire drills as mandated. We are also asked to prepare for
possible violence by practising lockdown procedures with students. This is the Code RED procedure,
whereby the school would be locked down if there was a threat to student and/or school security such as an
assailant or other danger.
Lockdown drills are on a par with fire drills but, rather than practise evacuating the building quickly, there's an
internal procedure in case a situation requires that no one leaves the building. We have not had our Code
Red practise as it was scheduled for this week: given that we have had the Code Yellow we will wait a week
or so and then hold our drill. We feel parents /guardians should be notified that we have postponed the drill
so you can discuss at home why we need to have the drill and what the threats could possibly be (while
remaining appropriate to your child’s sensitivity and age). Most of the children generally understand they are
just learning a new safety measure but others might feel scared. We will be very clear that we are practising
and ensure that our students feel safe and secure throughout the procedure. Again we thank you for your
support!
Bon Citoyen—we have made a change to the way students are rewarded. Check out the pictures on our
Bulletin Board by the office. Watch the team score boards as well. Points are adding up all the time! Bon
Citoyen tickets are already piling up in our end of term draw boxes!!! Keep up the great work, les amis!
n our school, we believe that children do best when we all work as a team. If you have concerns or worries,
talk to us before things get too serious! Together we can make this year a great one for “our” kids.

STUDENT PLANNER
Your child/ren uses a planner on a daily basis: this planner is an essential and excellent tool for enhancing
home/school communication. Please establish the habit of looking at your child’s planner and signing it on a
daily basis and ensure that it is returned to school daily. All discipline matters will be reported in the planner:
for example, if your child/ren is sent to the office for misbehaving, it will be noted in the planner. Parents will
be contacted for severe behavior.
BON CITOYEN (Good Citizens of Lac des Bois)
Come and check out the photos on the bulletin board for our September winners. Each month the
winners drawn at our monthly assembly will get a treat and have their photo taken for the display.

STILL WORKING ON THIS!!!
We are still hoping to get this initiative in operation. Similar to the service contracted by the
Montessori Society, we hope to offer a SHUTTLE BUS service every morning from the CN
Centre to the school. Students (K-7) would subscribe each month and could board one of two
buses (at 7:50 am or 8:15 am) They would then be dropped off at the school. Parents would be responsible
for making sure their child (children) board the bus. We will be outside waiting to receive the students upon
their arrival at school each morning. The last piece of the puzzle is the cost and we are still in talks with our
service provider. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned! If you think you would take advantage of this
service, please email [email protected]

LEARNING COMMONS / BIBLIOTHEQUE
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held Oct 17-18-19 while parent teacher interviews are on. To view
books after school, students must be accompanied by an adult. The last day for sales is the 19th of October.
A big thank you in advance to our fabulous volunteers who help make this event so successful.
SPECIAL DAYS
Special Days: we love to have our special days, such as the upcoming Crazy Hair Day
and The Cardboard arcade. In October we also anticipate the big one, of course, c’est
l’halloween!! This year, the big day is a Monday. Teachers will send home more info
closer to the date but please remember we are a Nut Aware school and because several
of our students are VERY allergic to all nut products we will be asking that you pay careful
attention to what your children bring to school as ‘treats and snacks’.
Items with peanuts / nuts should be eaten at home.
As for costumes, this year especially, we ask that parents consider carefully the costumes your children plan
to wear. Weapons of any kind are not permitted, even as part of a costume. Masks should be able to be
taken off easily, and appropriate outdoor footwear and coats, etc must fit over the costume as we go outside
for recess and lunchtime free time.
There will be a Halloween dance for the Gr 4-7 students on Thursday, Oct 27th. The dance is being
organized by our leadership class. More details and the permission letter will come home soon. The letter
must be signed by a parent and the classroom teacher, and there cannot be any behaviour concerns
regarding the student’s attendance at the dance. Entry will be by donation—more to come!
*** Halloween fireworks are being planned for Monday, Oct 31st on our school grounds by the Westbowl
Association. Come out and enjoy some community fun!
LA COURSE DES OURS
Un gros merci à tous! We were so lucky (and grateful) that the weather decided to cooperate
and our run was a great success! We have some amazing athletes and the red, blue, and
green ribbons for 1,2,3 places were plentiful! A wonderful way to end the season as well with
MANY of our students placing in the top 8 spots!
We want to thank the rabbits who “stepped up” at the last minute to help out. They were
really great: Tyler M, Jayden K, TY P, Mercedes B, Avery P, and our special guest, Ali M from
Duchess Park! Bravo to you all.
We were all very pleased and proud of the sportsmanship and positive attitudes of our students! That’s
the LDB spirit!
PHOTO RETAKE DAY
Friday Nov 4, will be your chance to get your student’s picture retaken.
COMMUNITY NEWS : Jesse Miller, School District 57 and the RCMP would like to invite you to:
Social Media, Connected Children, Parenting the Mobile Device Child
If you have concerns about how your child uses the Internet and mobile technology, this session is a 'must-
see' event for parents who would like to pro-actively examine the challenges of social media. This session will
explore the reasons behind the media and local concerns surrounding social media use, and to help prompt
dialogue at home that fits each family's values as it applies to use and abuse of social media. (More info on
web site.)
