Imagine studying at a university which can offer you the choice of a study abroad experience at not one, but four of the most iconic cities in Italy. That’s the opportunity which awaits students who choose Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, affectionately known as Cattolica.

Cattolica, a comprehensive university, covering an impressive range of programs from Medicine, Law, Philosophy and the Arts, through to Economics & Business, Accounting & Finance, Agriculture, Psychology and Linguistics. In the renowned QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018, Cattolica’s ascendency placed the University in formidable company, with 12 disciplines ranked in the top 250 in the world, or higher.

Whilst at Cattolica we pride ourselves on our academic reputation, what truly distinguishes our University is the campus diversity. Imagine living and studying in Milan or Rome, both seats of ancient empires. Milan, which is an acclaimed fashion center of the world, home to many of the world’s iconic luxury brands. And Rome, the Eternal City, which is an archaeological spectacle and feast. The home of masterpieces and the Vatican, a city whose footprint reflects almost three millennia of history. Then there is our campus in the heart of Brescia, a city of ancient wonders above and below the cobblestone streets and laneways. And Piacenza-Cremona, located at the cross-roads of Italy’s famous agricultural heartland, where local providers hang the hams and meats which are sought and coveted throughout the world.

But whichever your choice of location, you remain part of one family. The Cattolica family.

One whose networks touch every corner of the globe, whose care and commitment towards every student binds us as one. And ensures an international study experience like no other.

International Relations & Global Affairs (IRGA)

no boundariesMigrations, global warming, security threats, and economic crises have global causes and impacts. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary framework and a global perspective is required to properly address these issues.

Are you interested in learning about different societies, cultural traditions, and institutions around the world? Do you wonder why some countries are wealthier than others? Why some are in peace and others at war? Are you interested in learning how international disputes may be peacefully resolved? Would you like to understand how different regional civilizations have evolved, and how these characteristics continue to affect societies today? The Undergraduate Program in International Relations and Global Affairs (IRGA) is a unique program addressing these topics. Combining history and political science, economics and law, sociology and psychology, the program provides a coherent interdisciplinary curriculum that allows students to develop their understanding of how people, groups, countries, and international organizations interact in different parts of the world.

Learning objectivesIRGA allows students to develop an interdisciplinary knowledge of political, economic, historic, sociological and legal aspects of complex international issues. Studying how these disciplines approach, define and analyze international relations gives undergraduate students a sound basis for graduate studies. It also provides students with essential skills to conduct interdisciplinary research and collaboration, and the tools to understanding real world situations. The program’s interdisciplinary approach goes beyond the language of economics and law, and addresses the historical, social and political concerns that are really at stake, and vice versa.

The School of Political and Social SciencesThe School of Political and Social Sciences has a long tradition as it was one of the first schools to be established at Università Cattolica in 1921, based on the principles of common good, human dignity solidarity and subsidiarity. Its international scope is highlighted by the renowned personalities who have been awarded a Laurea Honoris Causa. These inspiring names include Jacques Delors (President of the EU Commission), Javier Pérez de Cuéllar (Secretary General of the UN), Corazon C. Aquino (President of the Philippines) Shimon Peres (President of Israel), Michel Camdessus (Managing Director of the IMF), Helmut Kohl (Chancellor of Germany), Romano Prodi (Italian Prime Minister and President of the EU Commission), José María Aznar (Prime Minister of Spain), Irina Bokova (Director-General of UNESCO).

Career opportunities & professional recognition Holding a degree in International Relations and Global Affairs will allow you to consider a number of different options for your future career: your political, historical and economic skills will be the perfect base for an international career in governmental institutions and NGOs, or in journalism; your grasp of psychology and group dynamics will tailor you for the HR department of large organizations and firms, and your quantitative skills will suit you for consultancies as well as for international marketing research.

The global fabric of the worldRelations among countries take different forms: bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, regional and global agreements on trade, investments, environmental and security issues. A complex web of companies and NGOs are also active on a variety of policy issues in every corner of the world. Studying International Relations and Global Affairs will endow you with economic, sociological, historic and legal competence to deal with today’s interdependence.Italy at the crossroads of globalization

dynamicsItaly has been at the center of global political, economic, and demographic dynamics for many centuries. Since imperial Rome and its decay, the Middle Ages and Renaissance, Italy has played a pivotal role in East-West exchanges as a cross road between Europe and the (Middle and Far) East. As a natural bridge across the Mediterranean Sea, Italy also connects Europe and Africa thus becoming a hot spot of global migration flows.

Local development and global competitionToday, most economic decisions and strategies at every geographical scale require an international perspective. Attending IRGA you will focus on glocal issues such as: international value chains, global markets, natural resource extractions, global financial facilities.

Food Production Management

Industry relatedItaly is a country worldwide known for its high quality food production. Italy is the homeland of pizza, pasta, mozzarella, as well as a large variety of cheeses and wines, the ideal location for a B.Sc. in agrifood.

Undergraduate program in Food Production ManagementThe program in Food Production Management is designed for students who wish to gain a thorough interdisciplinary knowledge and practical experience on the application of innovation along the agri-food value chain, from the field to the table, to produce safe, sustainable and high quality food. High quality “Made in Italy” products such as wine, dairy and bakery, will be used as study cases: students are expected to apply methodologies learnt and knowledge gained to group work projects on the assessment and improvement of agri-food value chains of their interest.

Learning objectivesThe program has three main learning objectives:1. To provide students with a solid background both in

science basics (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) and in sectorial competencies (plant growing and protection, animal husbandry and welfare, processing and storing technologies, food quality and safety, economics and marketing, biodiversity and sustainability, etc.) which will be their toolbox for understanding and managing processes of the agri-food chains

2. To develop students’ competencies on the structure and functioning of high value agri-food chains, from primary production in both plant and animal sectors, to storage, transformation, and marketing. Case studies on value chains will be analyzed using a 360-degree approach in which specific competencies will be considered together as interconnected and integrated parts of a same system

3. To train students in developing their soft skills (relational skills, problem solving, decision taking with limited information, ability to work in team) for assessing and improving agri-food value chains of their interest

Career opportunities & professional recognition The program provides knowledge and skills for students aiming at managing the different levels of the agri-food chains (input supplying companies, farms, food processors, traders

and retailers, support organizations) particularly in those situations where interactions along the value chains represent a success factor for improving and maintaining products’ quality, sustainability and, above all, market performance. This program gives access to a Master of Science in Agricultural Science, Master of Science in Food Science, Master of Science in Agricultural and Food Economics, as well as a Master in Viticulture and Enology at Università Cattolica.

Partner companiesA network of both large and small-medium Italian food companies will be partners in hosting students for their internship.
