UNDERSTANDING DITTOIN-ROOM SECURITY OPTIONS

DITTO IS A DIVERSE SCREEN-SHARING SOLUTION.

It is designed to work in small-team environments and scale across enterprises.

This document explains Ditto security options for available receivers.

Apple TV offers several security options to keep unwanted presenters from “breaking in” to meetings

and shared displays.

ON-SCREEN CODES

On-Screen Codes require an in-room presence from the person wanting to present. When this option

is enabled, the presenter must enter a code that appears on the Apple TV. The code is random, and

it changes on every connection request. Upon requesting to share a computer screen, a user will be

prompted to enter the code into his or her Mac/PC.

APPLE TV SUPPORTED SECURITY OPTIONS

STATIC PASSWORD

A second option for security allows administrators to create a password for connecting to the Apple

TV. Unlike on-screen codes, this password does not change. Once it is set, a user needs to remember

the password to access screen sharing via the Apple TV.

This option may work well for organizations who have the same presenters in each room, but it may be

less ideal in an environment where presenters change frequently.

When using the AirPlay protocol with Reflector 2, a software AirPlay/Cast receiver for Mac and

Windows, On-Screen Codes and Static Passwords are available. These options work identically to the

options available with Apple TV.

Reflector 2 also offers other in-room security options that prevent users from immediately connecting

and displaying their screen. These options, along with the above AirPlay security options, can be found

in the Reflector 2 preferences menu under Connection.

REFLECTOR 2: CONNECT AND HIDE DEVICES

This option will allow a user to connect, but his or her screen will be hidden immediately. No primary

indication is made that a user has connected. To begin displaying the screen, the device must be

selected from the Reflector 2 menu.

REFLECTOR 2: PROMPT TO APPROVE

When a user connects, Reflector 2 will ask the Reflector 2 operator what they would like to do with the

connecting device. Options include connecting and showing the device, connecting and hiding the

device or rejecting the connection all together.

OTHER SECURITY OPTIONS

CHROMECAST-SUPPORTED SECURITY OPTIONS

Chromecast devices do not offer any type of in-room security. When a user initiates a connection, the

connection will happen without a password, code or other type of required input. This is a current

limitation of the Chromecast device.

GENERAL POINT-TO-POINT SECURITY

It is important to know that screen sharing is a point-to-point process.

That means when a user is sharing their screen, that data NEVER crosses off of the local network.

A shared screen NEVER goes across the internet or is sent to Ditto servers. It is sent directly to the

receiver across the local network.

When mirroring, the video stream will be sent over AirPlay or Cast protocols; the specific protocol is

dependent on the receiving device. Ditto employs industry-standard encryption for each protocol to

protect the shared content from one end to the other.
