UNDP Recovery Support for Myanmar:Supporting Early Recovery
The ER programme focused on four main pillars:
i. Coordination arrangements for implementation and monitoring of early recovery projects
ii. Livelihood restoration and community infrastructure rehabilitation
iii. Revival and strengthening of community level mechanisms to support recovery
iv. Disaster preparedness and risk reduction
UNDP Recovery Support for Myanmar:Supporting Early Recovery
• UNDP CO sent field missions to the affected townships to support existing staff to assess the situations / determine needs
• UNDP HQ sent SURGE staff to help CO respond to the post disaster situations
• In emergency period of May-June 2008, UNDP provided food, clothes, drinking water, Tarpaulins, medicines, etc throughout the Cyclone affected areas.
• Based on the above inputs, Integrated Community-Based Early Recovery Framework (ICERF) was formulated
• The first component of ICERF was Basic Service Package (BSP) to response the community emergency needs.
UNDP Recovery Support: Myanmar
The main objectives of the BSP were:
• To support affected communities to repair critical social infrastructure.
• To support affected families to generate income to ensure food security.
• To rebuild community cohesion and participatory decision making, through working with village committees and other CBOs.
• The Basic Service Package‐ ‘Cash grant’ for Most Vulnerable Households ‘Cash grant’ for Temporary Shelter ‘Cash for work’ for activities identified by the villagers (pond cleaning, village cleaning,..) ‘Cash grant’ and ‘in‐kind support’ for livelihoods
