Kao Ching-yuen the founder was born into poverty in Syueji.

Leaving the school and worked until he joined Taiwan Spinning in

1954.

In 12 years he reached the managerial ranks.

Uni-President Enterprises Corporation (UPEC) was founded in

Yongkang District, Taiwan City in August 1967 with his

acquaintance Wu Hsiu-Chi

The company launched a range of canned beverages in 1974

Taking over a dairy company and set up its own dairy division

The first in Taiwan to offer its milk and juice products in Tetra-Pak

packaging

It signed a deal with America’s Southland Corporation to bring its

7-Eleven retail concept to Taiwan

It was on the way to becoming a consumer goods/retail/industrial

conglomerate

In 1985, they launched such delights as Tong Yi Imperial Sausage

and Tong Yi Pickled Cabbage and Duck.

It became the Taiwanese distributor for Meiji’s high protein milk

powder; placed over 1,000 vending machines.

Opened Taiwan’s first branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken along with

the hundredth branch of 7-Eleven.

It acquired Budweiser’s distribution rights.

Uni-President was Taiwan’s leading food manufacturer by the end

of the 1980s

5 years after the company's foundation was built, Uni-President’s

first international venture happened.

Built their first instant noodles factory in Thailand.

Just three years later the company expanded into the US.

Built a similar noodles factory in Los Angeles

The company established a process in which they built a sufficient

scale of export business in markets before localising production in

the 1980s.

In 1984, the lead product line was tomato paste in Australia

The US venture was expanded with the importation of canned fruit

juices after 2 years

The company made its first venture in mainland China in 1992 and

further in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines.

It opened its seventeenth Chinese factory after 3 years in the

The Sub-conglomerates of Uni-President: Food Manufacturing,

Logistics, Retailing and Investment

Under Food Manufacturing are: Dairy and Beverage Group,

Provisions Group, Instant Food Group, General Food Group,

Consumer Health Group

Outside of the Food Products Sub-Conglomerate was the Logistics

Sub-Conglomerate.

Including 51 wholesalers and 133 retail chains spread across

Taiwan, distributing the products not only of Uni-President but

30,000 other manufacturers through the country’s largest route-to-

market system

Took the business to highs on new sales and market share in all its

major markets

2011

Of the 18 major food categories in Taiwan in which the company

competed, it had over 40% market share in five of them and over

20% in another six

2012

The company targeted the sale of a million tons of foodstuff: nearly

half a billion packets of noodles, 100 million cases of dairy and

other beverages, nearly 100 million bottles of soy sauce and 200

million loaves of bread

It is the largest food company in Taiwan.

It only has 10% total market share of total food which offers plenty
