UNION SQUARE ASSOCIATION One of the main goals of the Union Square Association has always been to promote outreach and create a strong sense of community. All of our events have strived to produce a place for each of you to meet your neighbors. This with the hope that by putting a name to all the faces you see around the Square, the more at home you would feel. During these uncertain times, we are asking you to reach out to your neighbors. More than ever, it’s a great time to check-in, say hello, and ask if anyone needs help. You can do this by dialing their number, texting, or leaving a kind note at the door. If you are outside on a walk, consider introducing yourself to someone you have never meet, of course, while maintaining six feet of distance. We must do our best to keep our neighborhood strong. Many neighbors are experiencing difficult times right now and need our support. There may be some who are lonely and can’t see their family, those who have lost their jobs or a reduction in income, and some who are facing new challenges of working from home while car- ing for youngsters. These positive impacts have the potential to have an amaz- ing ripple effect on our neighborhood. At some point in this wonderful life, we all need help. If you need assistance or know someone who does, please reach out to me at pres- [email protected]. Our group will do our best to help during this time. One of the main goals of the Union Square Association has always been to promote outreach and create a strong sense of community.

Many neighbors are experiencing

difficult times right now and need our support. There may be some who are lonely and can’t see their family, those who have lost their jobs or a reduction in income, and some who are facing new challenges of working from home while car-ing for youngsters.

These positive impacts have the potential to have an amaz-ing ripple effect on our neighborhood. At some point in this wonderful life, we all need help. If you need assistance or know someone who does, please reach out to me at [email protected]. Our group will do our best to help during this time.

Be well and stay healthy, Patty

Started in 2010, the goal of the friendly Bloom Your Block competition is to champion “block pride” and to encourage the residents of Union Square to clean-up trash and weeds from their block and to decorate the front of their homes, their stoops, windows, sidewalks and block corners with beautiful blooming potted plants, shrubs, and sidewalk and win-dow art.As we practice social distancing and adhere to the stay at home executive order issued by the governor to help combat the spread of COVID-19, Bloom Your Block is the excellent opportunity to help create beauty and joy amidst the fear and anxiety,

to strengthen ties and keep the Union Square community connected. This year to help keep our neighbors safe from COVID-19,

we are asking you to please use the Bloom Your Block Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/bloomyourblock/) to stay connected, sharing your knowledge and ex-perience, asking questions and offer encour-agement to neighbors. So like the page and check it often to keep up to date on how the competition is evolving in these changing

times! Together we will find ways to help keep our commu-nity connected and beautiful.

Union Square Association Neighbor-hood Meeting *** CANCELLED *** We will resume regular meetings when it is safe and advisable to do so; we look forward to coming together as a community on the other side of the pandemic.

We’re going on a bear hunt! Just because we can’t have playdates doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. Place a teddy bear (or stuffed toy of your choice!) in your window and help create a community scavenger hunt. While you’re out walking, see if you can spot a bear or two!

Stuck at Home? Bored with Netflix or cleaning your house? Want to get out of the house and help take care of the park? We need you.

Cleaning and maintenance of the flower beds have always been up to Union Square residents. We really need help getting the beds into shape this Spring and then maintaining them during the summer. We are in need of 8 people/families to help take care of the flower beds by adopting a flower bed in the park. We are asking that you commit to at least 1-2 hours per week (at least for the next few weeks) and then 1-2 hours per every other week on maintaining the flower bed during the summer. All that is required is that you rake, bag and clean-up your bed. If you don’t have materials, we can supply them to you.If you are interested in Adopting a bed, select your bed and then email Salvatore Seeley at Salvatoreseeley@

gmail.com. Sal will be in touch with you

Census 2020! You should have received a mailing with a code to use to complete the census online. You can also respond by phone or mail—whatever is best for you. By law, census information cannot be shared with any government agency, organization, or individual. For every person not counted in the census, Baltimore city loses $18,000 in federal funds over a ten-year period. Please make sure everyone is counted

Annual Spring Cleanup Unfortunately, the Mayor’s Spring Cleanup has been canceled. We were planning on having a communi-ty cleanup, dumpster, and cookout scheduled for the morning of Saturday, April 18. However, everyone can still get outside and clean up the area in front of your house, including your tree pit. Maintain social distancing, wear gloves, and take all the other precautions you have learned about. You can still help do your part to make the neighborhood a little bit cleaner and neater.

Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar Opening day has been postponed. The new date will be communicated as soon as it is set. For more information visit promotionandarts.org/events-fes-tivals/baltimorefarmers-market-bazaar
