    the law 33

    Importance of everyday laws, yield

What does yield really mean? Failure to yield the

right-of-way to other drivers is one of the top 5causes of accidents in the U.S. Yield means to letother drivers, pedestrians, and bicycles have theright-of-way before you proceed. Sadly, 1,000s of

accidents which could have been avoided arecaused each year by drivers failing to yield theright-of-way. Again, simply following the letter ofthe law could save you a lot of pain and suffering.

Concern about pollution from gasolinecombustion has led to the development ofcars powered by electricity from

rechargeable storage batteries and by thecombustion of natural gas, but suchvehicles have been limited in the distancethey can travel and have only been usedon a small scale, largely in metropolitan

    will contribute to safety.
