Verbos modales ~ Los verbos modales (defectivos)

Son una categoría de verbos auxiliares. Verbos modales también se llaman

modales auxiliares o simplemente modales. Hay diez verbos modales

ingleses:

can could

may might

shall should

will would

must ought to

Can = poder (v) (habilidad, permiso) - Lata , lata de basura (s)

She can speak English, my friend can play the guitar, you can’t afford a car

May = poder (v) (posibilidad, permiso) - mayo (s)

I t may rain, you may be right, may I come in?

Shall= tanto como deber expresa que no hay ninguna fuerza que impone la acción descrita por el verbo, pero que sería bien, desde un punto de vista moral,

hacerlo. / Sirve también como invitación You shall treat all human beings equally.

Shall we dance?

Will = indica futuro

Bill will finish this later. This will be very easy. I will call you back.

Must = deber (obligación)

I must finish the job on time; Students must study to learn not to pass

Could = podría (s, n, mos) (pasado de can)

Could you help me?, I could go yesterday.

Might = poder, ser posible (v) (posibilidad +/-)

He might arrive on t ime, anything might happen

Should = Debería (s, n, mos)

You should pay attention, He should have listened

Would = condicional (ía, ías, íamos, ían)

I would help if I could, I would live in Paris if I was a millionaire.

ought to= obligación (deber, tener que…)

You ought to pay before the end of the month
