MARCH 31, 2019 4TH SUNDAY OF LENT

ST. ANGELA MERICI, CORPUS CHRISTI, ST. PATRICK, ST. ROBERT BELLARMINE

From Father Terry

Today we celebrate Laetare or Rejoice Sunday. Although Lent is a solemn sea-son, we rejoice today because we are half

way to Easter. We are almost at the Resurrection! The priest wears rose vestments instead of the more penitential color of violet in order to signify our joy. A half way point is not only a good time to rejoice but also to evaluate. How was our first half of Lent? If it was strong, then we need to keep it up. If it was lackluster, do not fear, we still have the second half to go. May we have a blessed second half of Lent, returning to the Lord with our whole heart.

Focusing on returning to the Lord, we hear in our Gospel today a staple of the Lenten journey, God’s mercy. We are given the story of the Prodigal Son. (Lk 15:1-3,11-32) Are we not all prodigal or way-ward and in need of God’s endless mercy. The son falls into sin and loses his way, but we then hear the beautiful phrase, “coming to his senses.” (17) He saw the light. The son felt called to go home to seek his father’s forgiveness. God’s amazing mercy was ex-tended to him and even a celebration followed! Lent calls each of us to “come to our senses.” What an op-portunity we have. We need to look into our hearts, recognize our sinfulness, and return home to our Fa-ther. He is waiting for us. The Reconciliation sched-ule is in the bulletin. Please do not allow this special invitation to pass you by.

Today our 8th grade students receive the Rite of Elec-tion at the 11 a.m. Mass at St. Angela’s. This means that they are officially elected by the Church to re-ceive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Next Sunday, April 7, they will be confirmed by Bishop Wal-tersheid at a 1:30 p.m. Mass at St. Angela’s. What a joyous day! The fullness of the Holy Spirit will come upon our youth, making them more like Jesus and empowering them to tell the Good News to the world. Please keep them in your prayers.

On Mission News From Father Terry Please find in the bulletin a summary of our Interim Mass surveys. I first thank those who filled out a survey. We received 602 responses. Thank you! In general, the sur-veys were very positive, especially in light of our four parishes coming together as one grouping. I commend you for your understanding, efforts, and commitment to our grouping. As we all know, gathering four separate parish-es into a single grouping is not easy. We undoubtedly will have growing pains. As gleaned by the summary, some of the areas received higher satisfaction scores than others. I personally read through all of the surveys. I am now in the process of taking the findings to the Clergy Team, Staff, and Pastoral and Finance Councils. After consultation, I

will set forth any needed changes. Thank you again for filling out the surveys.

After much consultation with various groups, I am excit-ed to announce that we will have a combined and re-vamped CCD program beginning in the Fall. For grades K – 5 we will have the Family Program where families attend CCD together one Sunday per month. In grades 6 – 8, we will have the Edge Program where middle school students gather two Sundays per month. Both programs bring together families and volunteers and offer new and exciting ways to learn the faith. I believe that these programs are going to set hearts on fire with the love of Jesus! St. Angela’s has been chosen as the sight for our grouping CCD. We chose St. Angela’s due to such factors as location, size, amenities, and the vari-ous safety features due to Mary of Nazareth School. Please find in the bulletin more details and also im-portant listening sessions as to these programs.

Emily Belchick, our Youth Minister, will be coordinat-ing the Edge Program for our middle school students. We are seeking a Family Faith Coordinator to work in a team dynamic with Emily and be primarily responsible for overseeing our K – 5 Family Program. The job de-scription is in the bulletin. Please pray that God sends us the right person for this very important position.

I am happy to report that we have hired our new group-ing maintenance team, who will begin this Monday, April 1. Dan Hearn, the current maintenance worker at Corpus Christi, will now be the full-time maintenance worker for our grouping. In addition to Dan, we wel-come two newcomers. David Fearon and A.J. Minyon, who will both be part-time maintenance workers for our grouping. With the changes, we say farewell to Frank Carulli (St. Robert), Dave Hrubovcik (St. Patrick), Russ McWilliams (Corpus Christi), and D.J. Palcsey (St. An-gela). We thank them for their efforts over the years and may God bless them in their future endeavors.

As part of our reorganization, I remind all that our recto-ry office hours will change beginning this Monday, April 1. The new hours will allow all of our parishes to remain open in light of financial constraints in our grouping. As stated before, we are preparing as best we can for our future as one new parish, which will occur in January 2020. Full-time hours will resume as we be-come one new parish. Although, we have shortened hours, clergy and full-time staff will still be available for appointments beyond the scheduled office hours. Please see the new hours in the bulletin. Thank you for your understanding and I am looking forward to our future together.

Lastly, I thank all those who made our Grouping Spring Fling Super Bingo such a success. It was packed and a good time had by all. I was glad to see so many from the various parishes in our grouping coming together to make the day so wonderful. A special thank you to all of the volunteers. We hope to have another Super Bingo in the near future. Stay tuned.

Parish Grouping Fish Fry 2019

The Fish Fry has grown over the years to record setting numbers! As the Fish Fry has grown the number of volunteers has gone down. To run a successful Fish Fry, volunteers are key! To run the Fish Fry on any giv-en Friday 30-40(per shift) volunteers are needed not counting the volunteers working during the week. The preparation for Friday begins on Monday morning frying cabbage for haluski. Final cleanup is on Satur-day morning. Listed below are many different ways you can help with the “start time” listed! There are also many other “behind the scenes” tasks. All the preparation is at the Corpus Christi Social Hall.

Monday - Fry cabbage for haluski.

Wednesday - Receive supplies from vendor. Prep fish. Some condiment prep is done 10 am. [group

activity]

Thursday Apr.4, 11 - Fish prep for breading (cutting): 9:00 am [group activity]

Condiment prep and Fish Breading: 9:00 am [group activity] Fish Breading: 6:00 pm [group activity]

Friday Apr. 5, 12 - * * Fish Fry 10:00 am to 7:00 pm * * * We are especially in need of volunteers for our Fish Fry in filling orders on Fridays. We need extra help at Corpus Christ from 3 – 7 p.m. and St. Patrick’s from 11-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Saturday - Inventory day and to set hall up for RCIA program: about 2 hours

There are a variety of jobs – something for everyone! Many jobs can be done sitting down! We are asking for any help that you can give! Two hours of your time will make a huge difference!

A great way for students to help out is by being a server – from after school to 7:30 pm - – to take orders to tables, to clean off tables and take out trash.

One of the reasons the Fish Fry is the best in the Mon Valley is because of all the GREAT volunteers. Please consider volunteering for our 2019 Fish Fry!

10% of our net proceeds is donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank!

If you would like to volunteer or need more information please contact the general chairperson Rich Keller at 412-398-9302 or [email protected] .

Bakers Needed Please use the schedule below and keep in mind if you cannot bake on your assigned day we will gladly ac-cept your bake goods any day you are available to bake. We can always use extra baked goods.

You can bring your baked goods to Corpus Christi Hall Thursday between 10 am and 2 pm and 6 pm and 7 pm or Friday morning.

If anyone would like to help work at the Bake Goods Table please contact Nancy Stone at 412-751-9363.

Please prayerfully consider your gifts and how you are being called to use them. If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office or contact Lisa Yost @ [email protected] or 412-896-083. Thank you!

Safe Environment

It is the policy of the Diocese that all volunteers must complete the Safe Environment process before beginning a ministry or activity in any Parish.
