Because of COVID-19, we have shortened office hours to morning only, with office staff working limited days and hours in the office. It was recommended by the Iowa Annual Conference of the UMC that all UMC offices be closed and that em- ployees work from home. This just wasnt practical in our situation. Committee Up-dates

During our ‘time in exile’, the committees have been in contact through

email, ZOOM, and/or phone calls. The Worship and Education committees

have been working on how we will be able to resume, whenever that will be.

Reports have been sent to the Leadership Committee, and Michael At-

kinson has been kept abreast of continuing developments. He has also been

helpful in contacts that we needed concerning banking and insurance!

The Trustees have been working on solving our downstairs restroom

problem. It cost about $1,300 to determine exactly what the original problem

was, and figure out the best people to work on it. Estimates were about

$3,000 to dig down in the women’s restroom to repair the pipes. It was dis-

covered that there are further problems, and digging in the front yard will be

necessary to replace/repair pipes. We are awaiting Roto Rooter from Ames to

do that work. They did the inside work, after being recommended by compa-

nies in Hampton. Thank you to Pat and the Trustees who have been working

on this situation while we have been self-isolating.

The Finance Committee has been handling business through emails.

You will note Carol’s report in this Tower taking us through April. Thank you

all for your generosity during this time. You will note that our income has ex-

ceeded our expenditures, partly due to fewer things going on in the building.

However, you will remember that we are paying no pastoral pension or insur-

ance due to having a retired interim pastor; and we have paid no apportion-

ments for the year yet. The Finance Committee is also working to try to keep

back enough to pay for the plumbing repairs at the church, and we are trying

to figure out how we will pay for the ‘tuckpointing’, if and when, it takes place

later this year.

Finally, the SPRC has approved the staff, including program staff, re-

ceive full pay through this time, as long as it is possible to do so. Because of

COVID-19, we have shortened office hours to morning only, with office staff

working limited days and hours in the office. It was recommended by the Iowa

Annual Conference of the UMC that all UMC offices be closed and that em-

ployees work from home. This just wasn’t practical in our situation.

If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Lewis (email [email protected], or by cell phone 404/273-4803).

“FOODLESS” SPRING FLING FUNDRAISER - 2020

Each year one of our main fundraisers consist of our “Foodless” Spring Fling. These donations allow

us to pay-it forward and support organizations on an in-house, local, district, state, and national level.

Year after year we continue to successfully raise funds, surpass goals, and reach new fundraiser highs

through your generosity. Our “Foodless” Spring Fling Fundraiser began May 15 with a goal of

$4,500. Donations are still being accepted and may be dropped off at the church office, or mailed to

UMW Treasurer, Carol Nolte, 1694 Warbler Ave, Hampton, IA 50441.

We encourage All persons of our church to participate. If you did not receive a mailing about our

“Foodless” Spring Fling, and would like more information explaining this fundraiser in detail, as well

as the organizations we support, please contact the church office, Judy Kothenbeutel, Bonnie Fielding,

or Carol Nolte.

2020 is becoming a year to remember. Can we make it a year to remember in donations as well? And

will it be a greater year to remember in our support of organizations who may be experiencing unusual

circumstances too?

We thank all of you for your committed support.

United Methodist Women ‘Foodless” Spring Fling Committee

Thank you to all puppets and all who participated in all the Sunday

services. Thank you to all who sent cards and prayed for me.

Coming Sermons May 31

From Ezekiel 3:16-21, Pastor Lewis will be speaking about being “God’s Mouthpieces”. In every age, God is looking for those who will listen for Him—love enough to speak God’s truth—and, then, let others make their own decisions. How are we answering God’s call? June 7 Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20-24 is about “Spiritual Abuse” and God taking over as the rightful shep-herd of his flock. Since the sermon will begin with a story about ‘a humor-impaired preacher’, one might think that is spiritual abuse. But, really this sermon is about whether or not we are following God – recognizing God’s presence in our lives. June 14 Ezekiel 37:1-14 is the familiar story of the dry bones coming to life. Pastor Lewis will speak about “The Breath of Hope”. When God is in our lives, there is no situation or circumstance that is impossible. We just need to let God breathe hope into our spirits. Then we will be challenged to be-lieve, attempt and receive the impossible! June 21 From Matthew 10:24-39, we will learn about “The Divine Lost and Found”. Literally, Jesus is telling us that when we lose our life in the Divine, we find the only life worth living! June 28 Looking at Mark 7:1-5, we ask the question, “Where Do We Go From Here?” Homer Pullen (you’ll have to listen to discover who he is or was) used to say, “No matter where you go, there you are.” However, is that all we want from our Christian faith? Just to end up where we are? Or, are we becoming mature disciples of Jesus Christ?

Matt Waddingham is the son of Jay and Kristi Waddingham.

Matt plans on attending Iowa State University and major in Civil

Engineering.

Alyssa Grace Shirk is the daughter of Charlie and Sarah Shirk.

Alyssa plans to attend Hawkeye Community College and go into

the Dental program.

Elle Sheppard is the daughter of Caleb and Alexis Sheppard.

Elle will attend Iowa State University to major in business

management.
