YOUR RELIGIONWhat’s the good of your religion, if it can

not make you smile, 1What’s the good of being pious, if you’re

gloomy all the while. What’s the good of a religion that will

never help you be A joyous, happy creature, full of love and

sympathy ?What’s the good of your profession as a

follower of the Lord,If you’re not made sweeter, better, and

your life with His accord. What’s the good your being a Christian,

if no one is helped thereby.Just as well be born a heathen, and a

Love is but another name for brotherhood. It brings forth charity, mercy, forbearance, tolerance, benevolence.

God is love, and Christ was divine because He was the most perfect embodiment of love the world has ever known.—- Herald of the Golden Age.

HEAVENLY PILLS A little girl came to kindergarten one

The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Unity Society will be held one week from next Monday night. Quite a few applications for membership in the Society have already been received and the Board will be glad to receive a great many more. Hand them in before Monday, January 31st.

The Annual Meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary will be held Friday, January 28th, at 3 o’clock in the parlors of Unity Building. Reports will be read from all departments, and the election of officers for the ensuing year will take place. An urgent request is made that every member of the organization be present at this most important meeting of the year.

Miss Gaylord gave the members of her Sunday School class a . most enj oyable evening, Friday, January, 14th, at her home 2545 Wabash Avenue, the occasion being a masquerade party. One particularly pleasing feature of the evening was the organization of the “Unity Sunshine Club” which is composed of the members of this class. The officers of the Club are as follows: President, Miss Tessie E.Wallace; Secretary, Miss Della Saunders; Treasurer, Miss Hazel Farley.

A course of twelve lessons in Practical Christianity, Christian Healing and Spiritual Understanding, will be given by Mrs. Sophia Van Marter in Unity Auditorium beginning Sunday, February 6th, at 8 p. m. These lessons will be given each week,

A WHOLE FLOWER GARDENLittle Mary went into the country on

a visit to her grandmother. Walking in the garden she chanced to spy a peacock— a bird she had never seen. After gazing in great admiration, she ran quickly into the house and cried out, “Oh grandma! come and see; one of your old chickens is in bloom.”— The Delineator.

WEEKLY UNITY

RESPONSIVE SERVICE

Sunday, January 23

Bless Jehovah, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless his holy

name.Bless Jehovah, O my soul. And forget not all his benefits:Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;Who healeth all thy diseases;Who redeemeth thy life from destruc

tion ;Who crowneth thee with loving kind

ness and tender mercies:Who satisfieth thy desire with good

things; So that thy youth is renewed like the

eagle. For as the heaven is high above the

earth. So great is his loving kindness toward

them that fear him.As far as the east is from the west,So far hath he removed our transgres

sions from us.* * * *

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him:

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall befilled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: forgreat is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing; but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.

Even so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

ONLY ONE FAULT.Some one had given Harry a miserable

little puppy, and his mother was trying hard to convince the little fellow that the dog was not worth keeping. “Why, mama,” said the little four-year-old, “he’s a nice dog; only his bones are too close to his skin.”— The Delineator.

SOME EXTRACTS FROM MY SCRAP BOOK

C o n t r i b u t e d b y D r . J. B. K i n n e y

All lawyers recognize the importance of authorities (opinions of judges.) Physicians and surgeons spend much time in looking up authorities. So it is with all physical scientists, searching and accepting the opinions of others who have preceded them, that they might be guided in their thought, act, deed and work. For the edification and guidance of those who have claimed that St. Paul was a religious fanatic and irresponsible when he repeated the Christ version of the Lawr. “All the law is fulfilled in one word, Thou slialt love thy neghbor as thyself.” I will give some excerps from my scrap-book which I think will verify St. Paul’s sanity.

“A truly good man loves all men. Recompense injury with kindness.”—Lao- Tsse, Chinese Mystic, 625 B. C.

“Do not to others what you would not like others to do to you.—Hillel, 50 B. C.

■“Act towards others as you would desire them to act towards you.”—Socrates, 338 B. C.

“Do not to your neighbor what you would take ill from him.”—Pittacus, 650 B. C.

“We should conduct ourselves towards others as we would have others act towards us.”—Aristotle, 385 B. C.

“What you wish your neighbors be to you such be you to them.”—Sextus, 406B. C.

“Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.”—Thales, 464 B. C.

“Do unto another what you would have him do unto you, Thou needest this law alone. It is the foundation of all the rest.”—Confucius, 550 B'. C.

“He sought for others the good he desired for himself.” Egyptian.

“Do as you would be done by.”—Persians.

“One should seek for others the happiness one desires for himself.”—Buddhist.

“Let none of you treat his brother in a way he himself would dislike to be treated.”—Mohammed.

“Do not that to your neighbor which you would take ill from him.”—Grecian.

“The Law imprints on the hearts of all men to men to love the members of society as themselves.”—Romans.

“Whatsoever you do not wish your neighbors to do to you do not to them, this is the whole Law.”—Jewish.

“The true rule is to guard the things of others as you guard your own.”—Hindu.

“All things whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, do ye even so unto them.”-—Christian.
